When you said "new group, the Commodores" it was clear you had no idea what was coming. I'm sure most of us were saying "wait for it"! I was already tearing up and then, "Wait! That's Lionel Ritchie!" Like, what's he doing here? Oh man, this is one of my favorite reactions ever. Right up there with "whoever this singer is, he's really good" about Freddy Mercury. Love you JV! You make my day. Congrats on 50k subs! Don't be shocked when it's hundreds of thousands. Your honesty, innocence and vulnerability are rare qualities in today's society. That's what keeps us coming back.
I really dig "Penny Lover" as well. There were a few years when Lionel Richie was so prolific, hit after hit after hit. He had those creative juices flowing in overdrive.
He started in the commodores Check out Nightshift, Sail On, Three Times A Lady 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 can’t go wrong on any of their songs Cruise and put windows down and turn it up 🤗
Oh, yeah. Lionel Richie is one of the very best artists out there. I used to use his songs in teaching English as a second language, for many reasons. I think Sail On is one of his best.
Lionel was in the Commodores from day one. This group had a lot of number one hits from the 70 s. You'll have to check out more songs. I use to dance to alot of them at the Discos in the 70 s.
When going thru my divorce in 1980/81, The commodores song "Still" made me cry a lot but it got me thru it. My ex passed away and never knew this was my song to him about our marriage. This was a great band and a great song reaction. Easy, is such a chill song.
If u haven’t heard Lionel’s album called Tuskegee, its a must!!!! One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE albumsIve ever heard!!! All old sings with duets with lots of country greats!!!!
71-yr-old white guy here: You've missed out, young man! I was in my late 20s when the Commodores came out with this song, & on Saturday nights I'd be slow-dancing with some fine lady when this song was playing- it made 'em melt EVERY TIME- Lionel had a voice that made panties drop all over the WORLD!! I could tell by the look on your face that you enjoy it now as much as I did back in the day!! Stay well!
@@Tuesdays_Gone their school mates made fun of them unmercifully! No, it wasn't the kkk, it was their fellow black students. It took quite a while for them to gel and as soon as they did, they drove up to Wish bone Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama where Terry Woodford And Clayton Ivy cut some HOT FUNK called Machine Gun. That blasted the doors open and the rest was history!
As a white kid growing up in the 70's in country, bluegrass area, I listened to a lot of music the Commadores and Lionel Ritchie were one of my favorites, Lionel is absolute "LEGEND".
I went to an all girls private school in Hawaii and one of my favorite teachers in senior year had went to college with the members of the commodores (idk if it was a couple or all of them). They came in concert and she took me and a couple of her other favorite students to the concert and took us backstage to meet the group. Great memory. Love you Mrs T!
"Car Wash" by Rose Royce; a must. A funky, uptempo dance-monster. If you aren't movin' to "Car Wash," your car's gonna be dirty forever. The movie is an all-time classic as well. The rapper Daddy Rich got his name from that movie.
The Commodores' last hit came after Lionel Richie left the group. It is called Nightshift and is a tribute song to those soul artists who had passed as of that time.
This is such a smooth song. And his voice is so soulful. The nostalgia takes us back. There is a comforting vibe to his voice that takes me back to my dad's vibe when he was around.
Found this on the Commodores: Commodores is an American funk and soul band, which was at its peak in the late 1970s through the mid 1980s. In 1977 the Commodores released "Easy," which became the group's biggest hit yet, reaching No. 4 in the US, followed by "Brick House," also top 5, both from their album The Commodores. The group reached No. 1 in 1978 with "Three Times a Lady." In 1979 the Commodores scored another top-five ballad, "Sail On," before reaching the top of the charts once again with another ballad, "Still." In 1982, Lionel Richie left to pursue a solo career Thanks for your reaction, Jay..... Take care and be well. Peace.
Jay....here's a link to Richie's song, Still which is my favorite of his songs. My mother and I had a very fractured relationship and when she died, I had this song played at her funeral. Peace. th-cam.com/video/-V4pKKo4oro/w-d-xo.html
I was a junior in high school when this song came out. Damn, I’m old. Great memories. His writing and performing is so heartfelt. By the way, Nicole Richie, his daughter. His friend couldn’t take care of their baby daughter and Richie let her stay with him and his family. He loved this child enough to make her his and adopted her. Sweet guy!
I have always loved Lionel Richey and the Commodores! What a voice! What a songwriter. Penned sone of the greatest songs ever. I enjoy your reactions! You are a bright light during dark time! Thank you!
I was fortunate to see The Commodores in concert during their heyday. The whole band was all glitzed up and the 1000's of attendees were all wearing Light-Up glow Necklaces. Great memory.
The Commodores are fabulous! In keeping with the vib you need to check out Midnight Train to Georgia by Gradys Knight and the Pips! You’ll love them too! Keep on doin’ what you’re doin’ and Peace Out!
Fancy Dancer and Slippery When Wet puts Brick House to shame! Good ole 1977! A double Dose of Alabama FUNK! Slippery When Wet, and Fancy Dancer. The latter will blow your Sox off!
This is one of my all time favorite songs! I was able to see Lionel in concert in June 2019. When I heard the first notes of Easy, I teared up. Incredible experience. By the way, my favorite Commodores album is Natural High. Give it a listen!
Lionel Richie started with The Commodores and then became a solo, this album was their first and just skyrocketed in the charts in the 70s! I was very lucky to see them in person twice. In person they were just as good as they were on their albums. And the show they put on while singing all those songs was unforgettable
(Posting this comment under multiple videos to increase your chances of seeing it lol 😉) Your reactions can, genuinely, ALWAYS put a smile on my face. Its so fun to see someone discover AND appreciate, too, my favorite bands and voices I've loved and grew up on my entire life. I've taken that for granted until now.... .... so it comes to this. I have a fun suggestion and it involves another NEW ARTIST who also has a "once in a lifetime voice"!!!!! I want to know which "Sherry" song is your favorite from these 3 artists Steve Perry-Oh Sherrie 1984 Stevie Wonder-My Cherie Amore 1969 And my I introduce you to, Frankie Vali and the four seasons-Sherry 1962 Thanks hope you enjoy!!!!
I Lionel Ritchie! He's by far one of the most talented men that's ever lived! Not only does he sing and play the piano, but he's one of the most prolific song writers that ever lived. He also has what's almost a magical ability to give his songs a "hook." A line in the song, usually the chorus, that just draws the listener in; making the song, itself, easier to remember the lyrics, but it also just makes you want to listen to it again and again. (The Bee Gees also have that ability, as well.) It's definitely a rare one. Thanks for your wonderful reaction. I'm glad you enjoyed this one, too.
Jayvee. I LOVE this song. In 1977 I was just retired from the U.S., Air Force - and my family had just broke up, Yes, was sad. I tried to hold it together - but no luck. Haven't heard this song for decades - still evokes bad memories for me. I'm a loyal fan Jayvee. You've got it together.
Have to say I used to listen to this with my dad, Christopher Cross and some of the other old school grooves from the real singer songwriters...teared up tonight with the power of music. Thank you brother
Thank you broham for your reaction videos. You always seem to bring us back to our youthful years. Yes, these types of group singers are hard to find. The songwriters were smooth and beautiful. Easy like Sunday mornings... make your soul feel good!!
I remember hearing this back in 1977 as an eight year old kid, now all of these years later.... It's Perfect, everything about it..... Thank you for your reaction video, I needed to hear this song today.. The Commodores were like no other band of that era for me and I have nothing but respect for their music.
Lol here. That's like the story of the two young girls leafing through albums in a British record store and one of them discovers a Beatles album and says to the other, "look, Paul was in a group before Wings".
I just discovered your channel. Seeing you react to this was like hearing it for the first time again. I grew up on this music. The Commodores are legends. As you said, they had it all. Every one of them was incredibly talented.
I KNEW you were going to pleasantly surprised to see Lionel! lol! Try their song "Brickhouse". Seems your getting into disco age music. THIS song was a gret song to waltz to. A few other disco era songs are "Everytime you go away" and "Oh Girl" by Paul Young
This one sure brings back great memories! 1977 was the year I graduated hi school. This was the ultimate cruisin' tune...great for road trips!! And for slow dancing! At least one Commodores 8-track tapes was a necessity in everyone's car tape case!! Enjoyed the reaction! Thanks!!
You remind me of my son when I introduce him to a new band/ group from my teenage years! He loves it when I call him to let him listen to "grown folks music"
I knew your reaction to seeing Lionel would be fantastic to see and oh boy it was definitely that Jayvee. I loved him in the Commodootrs and I love his songs solo. My favourite with the group is Once, Twice Three times a Lady and my solo is Hello. I think he has a smooth and rich voice which shows his emotions, and the words come across so clearly, a great singer. I am still chuckling over your reactions sweetheart, so honest and genuine, you're great my friend. Take care and stay safe please everyone, love and hugs and peace to you all Mary-Ellen UK
I'm so glad that you are reacting to The Commodores. R&B throughout the 70's was exceptional. I kindly request that you react to "Sweet Love", released by The Commodores in 1975. It's actually not a love song per se, but simply a song about love, and how sweet it genuinely is. Best wishes from San Diego.😊
Great song! Takes me back to High School dances. The Commodores were really big back in the late seventies. Another great ballad is 'Three Times a Lady', and then there's 'Brick House' where they get down and funky and rock out! A personal favorite is a funky rocker instrumental called "Machine Gun" which sounds a lot like Billy Preston who you should also check out sometime (Nothing from Nothing, Space Race, Will it Go Round in Circles). Thanks for listening. Peace from SF
That was awesome. I loved the look on your face when you realized that Lionel Richie was singing.. Not only does he play piano but he plays a mean sax .. We had so many great bands back in the day .. I wish we had that kind of music today...
When you said "new group", I knew that you did not know Lionel Ritchie was in the Commodores ...loved your reaction when you saw him!! Love your reactions to the old music when you hear how good it is ... I was lucky enough to be there at the time. Watching you enjoy this great music is heartwarming and fun. Keep up the great work - you make a lot of us very happy! Thank you.
Love the Commodores and Lionel Richie. There were a few years there where he was just pumping out the hits. I'm not sure which year it was, but at the American Music Awards, he was winning everything. Incredibly talented singer/songwriter.
I remember hearing this on the radio with my first boyfriend back when I was 16 and him saying " yeah I'm easy too, but I don't sing about it." Still makes me laugh.
Ditto.Love Jay's innocence.

Love me some Lionel Richie....listen to "Sail On", "Lady", "Still" and "Oh No"...that's some smooth, buttery love right there!
Oh, yeah, "Sail on."
Also try "Truly". You won’t be disappointed.
I love Lionel Richie voice!❤☺☮
I really dig "Penny Lover" as well. There were a few years when Lionel Richie was so prolific, hit after hit after hit. He had those creative juices flowing in overdrive.
Still always makes me cry like a baby💯😭😭♥️

I’m putting a face to all the comments I’ve left ya just too many C lol at least you can see who your commenting to thank Jayvee .
Can't believe you all left out Brickhouse!
Steve Francsak Sorry was just trying to get a few on the list to start with . But you got it in ☺️
Love it. Brick house is a great one by the Commodores.
classic shit
In the mid-70's, every girl with curves heard "She's a brick, brick house" as she walked by ...
Plenty of great music from the small, Great state of Alabama. This was the Tuskegee boys!!
Oh, yeah. Lionel Richie is one of the very best artists out there. I used to use his songs in teaching English as a second language, for many reasons. I think Sail On is one of his best.
Yep my all time fav too....check out Sail On with Tim McGraw on Lionel’s Tuskegee album...soooo good!!!!

So many great songs, "Runnin with the Night", Hello, Penny Lover, Love will find a way, all great Lionel Richie songs. So talented!
No auto-tune and the band members actually played instrument's.
Coolrockndad, yes. You don’t see that anymore. Raw talent.
The Commodores -- you can't get better than this ! What a great song!
That was the rule in those days !
Back then there weren't as many contracts offered either, you had to have lots of talent just to get heard.

Gotta do “Sail On”. 🙌
My mama loved this song. She would make up her own words. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
The three people who gave this a thumbs down: Autotune creator, autotune company employee and his son
Lol, right!
and now eight shareholders as well
how can you not like the reaction even if you don't like the song?
Damn lol
As a white kid growing up in the 70's in country, bluegrass area, I listened to a lot of music the Commadores and Lionel Ritchie were one of my favorites, Lionel is absolute "LEGEND".
This is classic! I loved it as a kid and I still love it today! Never gets old!!
My very first concert. 8th grade. Yes, Sail On is awesome too.
I love your channel! I love your reactions! Good job man! I've heard this song about 1 million times!
I am surprised when young people say they have never heard theses songs. I grew up with them as part my life.
i LOVE MUSIC FROM ALL GENERES, I HAVE TO SAY THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME.
What a great song and an amazingly talented group of artists. Great choice!

But he did finally convinced Mona to go out with him.
Any Rose Royce is good.
Another song I remember hearing together with this one way back when is "Use Ta Be My Girl" by The O'Jays.
The Commodores' last hit came after Lionel Richie left the group. It is called Nightshift and is a tribute song to those soul artists who had passed as of that time.

Sail On is fantastic!!! All old Commodores are just awesome...
Brick House is one of my favorites from The Commodores. Their cassettes played on repeat in my car stereo back in the late 70s.
You had to have heard this song, it's everywhere, and anyone taking piano lessons make this one of their recital songs.
I just discovered your channel. Seeing you react to this was like hearing it for the first time again. I grew up on this music. The Commodores are legends. As you said, they had it all. Every one of them was incredibly talented.

One of my favorite songs of the era along with Sail On and 3 times a Lady
Bought this when it was first released. Played it constantly! So cool.
I've loved this song since the first time I heard it.
It's very soulful and touching.
Would love for this song to be back on the airwaves.

I remember hearing this on the radio with my first boyfriend back when I was 16 and him saying " yeah I'm easy too, but I don't sing about it." Still makes me laugh.
First group entertainment I ever saw in Concert when I was 18 yrs old and I’m 62 now 🥰 I was so excited to go see them a memory I will never forget ☺️
