I know, right? Normally watching performances like this on TH-cam it's like, random (talented) musician playing song quite well. Here it's like, "YESSSS HILARY GET IT LOOK AT HER GO"
Only violinists know how hard it is to let a perfect, crystal clean sound come out of the instrument. But to produce those perfect, crystal clean harmonics in the 3rd movement... Only God knows how to achieve that. Ah, and Hilary Hahn of course. Pure talent and endless practice to the service of the art. Thank you
Just so you know, I put this video on so I would concentrate on my work. 36 minutes later and I did absolutely nothing except looking at Hilary playing this like the genius she is
Yes, and so did I. Second screen remained dark..and worth every second to listen and watch this renaissance woman express her talent, genius and love for the music.
All these comments have been rightly praising the musicianship on display here, but by God the audio quality here is the best available on TH-cam. The technicians did a masterful job recieving soloist and orchestra tone with such clarity.
True the best recording I can hear on the entire youtube. Maxim Venegrov one is also in terms of interpretation good but bad quality of audio turns me here. I also like interpretation at 2:38 starting with very quick notes(I dont know what to call them) and I love it. In many recording I hear that section started slow and then getting in pace like Ray Chen did and I dont like it. Also in many recordings the orchestra starting from 3:22 is very fast which again turns me in here as this recording offers that passage at a slower pace which sounds very good. Very nice work by orchestra they all played in harmony and created awesome music I am not going to switch to other recording for years to come. Sadly Maxim Venegrov recording has a poor audio quality as compared to this but I like his interpretation.
@@jyotsnasrivastava6373 I liked Vengerov's interpretation a lot, but nothing beats Hilary's. Her tone is utterly clean and clear, all the melodic passages come forward with such clarity and refinement and she never adds unnecessary embellishments. Sure, there might be a single mistake or two but it's insignificant, this remains my favorite interpretation, I actually prefer Hilary's to Ida Haendel's which is also a wonderful interpretation (Sibelius himself loved it).
I don't think there are many classical musicians that would do the things Hilary did on Two Set. Not only did she have fun, she let us see a side of a performer that is seldom seen. She is extremely personable, and has made this music more accessible to many who otherwise wouldn't listen.
Absolutely!!! "I" !!! "discovered" her on TH-cam several years ago, viewing clips of her performing as a ~14-16 year old (?) (younger ?) magnificently! She is my favorite! Such impassioned sonority and conviction! AND, much to her credit, the willingness to share the personal side of her humanity and humor. She's a real person like the rest us (except, of course, her insane musical genius).
I agree - she is that rare mix of supreme talent, grace and humility and is able to both perform to high standards and to play in a more silly and funny manner. I was shocked to learn her age, she is a true icon!
I am well aware of Hillary's ability to play but that dress is STUNNING on her. I'm so used to her in twoset merch 😂😂😂 And can we just appreciate the conductor! He is so happy and makes the whole experience just that much enjoyable.
I physically cannot understand how her intonation can be so flawless... I mean I'm sure every violinist practices like crazy but Hilary is on another level
Imagine all the electronics stopped working.. witness something like this would only be possible for rich folks.. those who dislike dont have a clue how fortunate we are to be able to hear things like this for free..
The people working for the public radio here in France (and the working people in general bc we are very attached to our public services) have been fighting really hard to keep a quality public service (including this channel, which is publicly financed) - with relative success. Dramatically, the different French governments have been trying, one after the other, to slash the budget of Culture - de facto transforming it into an actual rich people priviledge.
ur spitting strait facts. my dad records classical music and then airs it on radio and TV in Israel. last year it was on a more mainstream channel that had no respect to the music and fucking put an add between the movements of the symphony. don't worry, after he saw what they did he made sure it would be the first and last time he would air anything on that channel
This is insane ....one of the worlds premiere violinists playing in company with the best orchestra in the world that's not in Germany - and still the criticism flows from the keyboard warriors .......some people are hard to please ...we should all be thankful that we get to see this mastery at work. I certainly am.
Exactly. What a joy to be able to view and hear live concerts during a pandemic (or any time). Hilary & the orchestra became Sibelius for these minutes. For that, and for being able to take it all in on-screen, I am totally grateful.
Hilary Hahn is definitely maturing as a violinist. She sacrificed the "perfect sound" for layers upon layers of emotion. In my opinion, that is one of the most musical things to do. Bravo Hilary Hahn!
Was just thinking along your lines, Flux. This is merely a personal opinion, and I don't wish to offend us chaps, but as women mature there is something about those emotions gathered that can be incorporated in music in such a deep and beneficial way. Perhaps we chaps approach it differently
I feel the same. Attended her Tchaikovsky concerto performance like 12 years ago at SFO. Well played like a bot but I couldn’t feel emotions. But now this, amazing
@@diane4083 YOUR VIOLIN HAS A NAME TOO?????? I like to think I asked my violin his name because I would’ve never thought of the name otherwise, and it was the first name that came to mind. His name is Pablo, but I’m going to have to give him away to the place I rented him from soon :( He’s too small for me now.. probably shouldn’t have gotten emotionally attached to him haha
@@idroppedmychicken haha of course, I have many friends who gave a name to their instrument so that's normal for me 😂👌 Even if this violin is a rental you can give him a name because you know that you grow up with him and he's your friend for many hours of hard work so by this way you respect him, that's cool 🙃😂
... the conductor is... fulfilling his role perfectly... I don't know how to say it. He exhibits humanity while also being perfectly on time... I don't know how to say it... I've never seen such a beautiful soloist-conductor relationship. Amazing.
You can tell from her facial expressions/body language and the way she turns to watch the orchestra when she's not playing that she really enjoys playing and sharing music, it's not just an act. Love it!
I thought her expression was very serious and stern. Not that it was malicious. I'm certain she enjoyed listening to her fellow musicians. I think it was more that she was concentrating and was in the zone to focus on the performance.
Sophia Sharp. Isn´t it time for us to join a sort of sister/brother- relationship. I like your comment, and I hope you dont dislike mine . As I notice we have followed each other a long time. And rised together in this strive for eternal famousness. PS I like your glasses!
Please, don’t ever take this video down. I need to listen to this piece at least once a week to cleanse my soul of the stress over the pandemic, college, and my own personal issues. I absolutely adore this concerto and this specific recording. I honestly cannot imagine how Hilary, the audience, and the orchestra felt when they heard this sublime recording. It is simply perfectly executed and extremely vulnerable, emotional, and full of intense passages that run chills down my spine. The sheer amount of devotion, clarity, and impactful phrasing that Hilary creates is out of this world. This has to be the most emotive performance of Sibelius’s violin concerto in history. The sheer anguish inside of the musical context of this concerto is fairly deep and dramatic, but that’s what makes it so remarkable and memorable. Sibelius dreamed of becoming a soloist but unfortunately was never able to achieve his dream. Sibelius wrote this concerto for a kind of ghostly self. He was a failed violinist. He had begun lessons late, at 14, but then “the violin took me by storm, and for the next ten years it was my dearest wish, my overriding ambition, to become a great virtuoso.” In fact, aside from the double handicap of his late start and the provincial level of even the best teaching available in Finland, he had neither the physical coordination nor the temperament for such a career. In 1890-91, when he was in Vienna studying composition, he played in the conservatory orchestra (its intonation gave him headaches), and on January 9, 1891, he auditioned for the Philharmonic. “When he got back to his room,” we read in one of the great Sibelius biographies, “Sibelius broke down and wept. Afterwards he sat at the piano and began to practice scales.” With that he gave up, though a diary entry in 1915 records a dream of being twelve and a virtuoso. His Violin Concerto is imbued both with his feeling for the instrument and the pain of his farewell to his “dearest wish” and “overriding ambition.” And yet, he wrote one of the most challenging and physical demanding violin concertos ever. Sibelius is a genius.
Classical music is my life... Hilary Hahn’s interpretation of this violin concerto helps me the most with any stress or unwelcome feelings because it’s my favorite piece with my favorite violinist. If this video gets taken down.... I’ll be in shambles. The orchestra is beautiful; Hilary Hahn’s playing (as well as herself) is beautiful. And taking this down will be the end of it all.
Sofia, I forgot to adress my comment to you. Let me take it again: "I like your comment. Please, dont ever take this comment down, This is all I have to say. And we always will have music."
Sofia Sanchez, I myself listens to Sibelius almost every day. Perhaps I am an addict? But no, there are worse forms of addiction, I believe.Greetings from Sweden!
I’ve been listening to it once a week for the pat 6 months hahah this piece one of my favorite things in the world and such a gift to help me through college
Hilary Hahn: Performs an outstanding performance of Sibelius violin concerto. Eddy watching: 👁👄👁 Twosetters: Eddy it’s your turn! Edit: WE DID IT!!! Get ready for the next show!!! SIMP SIBELIUS!
actually he is creeping me out. He smiles a lot but his smile is more like "make one little mistake and you are done" than " I am enjoying life today".
She and Two Set have done great contributions to the classic music to the young digital generation, for letting them know that classic music is cool, smart, requires hardworking, and fun. It’s worth taking more than 10 years to attain beautiful sounds and sophistic rhythm, while it is also cool to curate music pieces on TikTok over one night.
True tho.. before this i only knew few famous pieces like canon, la campanella, four seasons, etc. Somehow watching 2set really opens my eyes to many more composers and more brilliant pieces.
Hilary is stunning in this, musicaly and emotionally entrancing, but I have to applaud the entire orchestra as they don't seem to be getting much love in the comments. They all are performing with emotion and beauty and it just creates a stunning sound. I also want to say thankyou to the most happy and wonderful conductor I think I have ever watched. If you weren't feeling good for this performance in the orchestra, that smile would melt away any anxiety, and he truly paid attention to every detail and kept the orchestra together following Hilary when she took artistic liberty. This whole performance was perfect!
The special connection between Mikko and Hilary is worth some thoughts. Mikko is another kind of conductor, as I see it. He is not some Furtwängler, or Karajan, he is only himself, smiles at Hilary, even sits when he is conducting, as if he is aware that the orchestra are the ones that does the real job. Together with Hilary. He has abdicated from the high position that conductors often have, but still does his job the best he can. And that helps the music to come through. At least it seems as Hilary highly appreciate this new order.
Look at Mikko Franck from 33:25, he is a lucky man! And why shouldn´t he, he has Hilary by his side and a wonderful orchestra. I also get lucky seeing him and Hilary together.
It's so beautiful when the soloist considers the conductor clever enough and the conductor considers the soloist even more clever though. There were the known professional courtesy, so nice! Both are so right in that! 😃
he actually has a spine condition that requires him to take a seat once in a while......his having to sit down almost has nothing to do with your statement although I'm sure he might agree with the sentiment....

I just stumbled upon this video after watching TwoSetViolin... ...so I thought that I just skip forward a couple of seconds to take a look... ... and then I just could not leave until the very end, listened to it with my eyes closed. Captivating. I still do not get classical music... but it seems that even if I still do not understand it, I might just enjoy listening to it.
I came here to check on my opinion of this piece. Now I'm sure that I was right. How silly it is to rate this as one of the four, or five, or... greatest violin concertos. It's perfectly respectable, of course, but it doesn't make you want to hear it again and again. It doesn't thrill There is no excitement. It is...okay.
_Try starting with Bach! He is just a set of complicated contrapuntal themes taken to the N'TH degree! If if you are good at math, your head will spin and you will get addicted!_ 😁
Ah ! Gergely, you have made a great start ! But maybe look for slightly "easier" pieces, cast around to see what you like. Beethoven Symphonies 6 and 7 are GORGEOUS, for example. There's a TON of gorgeous music out there.....dip into different things (You Tube is ideal ), and see what you like... Even seek out Andre Rieu, because thousands of ordinary folk LOVE his shows, as I do, they are easy to enjoy. But I mostly adore things like Chopin Ballades, (etc), Bach's Goldbergs, Rachmaninov All Night Vigil, Prokoviev Classical Symphony, the list is endless... xx

As a teacher and musician I do want to spread the word though that while TwoSet make entertaining videos about such fantastic musicians (Ms Hahn, Ray Chen etc) they have made quite the amount of viola jokes and put-downs to the point where two of my viola students quit music. They quit private lessons with me and they dropped out of music at school because they "couldn't deal with the jokes and classmates that made fun of them for being a violist and dissed constantly by TwoSet". Some people have said to me "okay, but the students don't have to watch these videos" yet unfortunately in their music classes at school the teacher devotes a portion of class time to watching the latest TwoSet upload. I've written to schools and got no decent response. Both students took the easy way out and switched to sports. I just need to point out that good AND bad come from TwoSet videos and their comment section. With or without TwoSet, I love Hilary Hahn's performances and recordings.
Hillary au sommet de son art; Miko et l'orchestre sont au top. Parfait + parfait = Perfecto merci pour cela des perfectos c'est ce qu'il nous faut dans ce monde

Seems to me this is the best Sibelius recording in existence. As many have noted in the comments, Hahn is getting better, more multi-layered, more complex. I think there can be no real dispute that she is the greatest living violinist, and - even at her relatively young age - one of the greatest in the history of the instrument. Such power and fire hasn't existed since Jascha Heifetz retired in 1972, and her musical intensity is matched only by Ginette Neveu's, who died in 1949. That, together with her combination of musical intelligence, clarity, and honesty; her disdain for any cheap appeal to emotion; and an unmatched technique (unmatched even by Heifetz!) put her in rarefied company indeed, that of Huberman, Kreisler, Heifetz, Oistrakh, and Milstein. Everyone else is a step below, musically or technically. Yes, I know, Busch, Szeryng, Grumiaux, Menuhin, Stern, Szigeti, Neveu, Ricci, Francescatti, Perlman, and so on. But none of them had Hahn's complete package: the musical incisiveness and curiosity, technical perfection, range of repertoire, and ability to reset our understanding of the violin and its capabilities.
It's a great performance no doubt, but I think Vengerov's performance of this with Barenboim (you can find it on TH-cam) is just on a completely different level in terms of intensity. It's a difference in style of course but I also think that his phrasing is better. And the orchestral part is brilliant with Barenboim.
I like how both conductor and violinist are enjoying what they are doing :) These sweet brief looks at each other and smiles, barely noticeable dancing of Mikko and Hillary make this performance so heartwarming and comfortable!
@@shrutirege7913 I didn't see it live; just this TH-cam video like most everyone else. But I agree, to see a performance like this would be a real treat.
Hillary's style is so elegant and clear, its SO nice and exciting to see her DIG into this piece. It's so not her usual style and yes it may be scratchy but its SO REFRESHING to hear her put so much emotion into something to the point where it's not as clear as usual!!! It's so fun to hear her be human and explore a new style!!!!! I love it!!! Such a fun performance to watch, even if it's not considered perfect!!!
Same observation! A new Hilary, new sound, a new Sibelius. Its completely diferent from the other Sibelius recordings she made. This version made me cry and feel tension like never feel with Sibelius violin concerto. So amazing the musical development of Hillary. ❤
Scratch in the live recording doesn't mean scratch in the hall, live. And vice versa - if something sounds so clean in the recording, doesn't mean it's convincing in the hall. That's why I prefer a bit of scratch - it means the performer is "pushing for it" :)
Yeah, I wish they put mics for her further away. This was probably so incredible to hear live from a good seat. Her "scratching" is intentional and only makes impact and gives edge in a large hall. Too bad the sound engineers didn't do better.
Dear friends this was that last composition that sibelius composed before he stopped,, his daughter was gone,, so absolutely he will express different feelings in this,, in addition to that, the queen hilary is the only one who achieved it technically and musically,, if sibelius was alive he would hug her...
As far as I can tell, she is one of the very few greatest classical musicians performing today. So it seems preposterous to me for people to be making trivial comments about her appearance. Why? Why? WHY? If she gained some weight, good for her. They say it's healthy to have a little extra weight. I once spent an afternoon listening to lots of different violinists play the Bach Chaconne, and she and Jascha Heifetz easily stood out as being the two best. She gets right into the heart of the music so intelligently, without wasted effort on showiness, in a way that very few people seem to do.
I figure most of the human race still has a long way to go when it comes to maturity and holistic intelligence. It's a shame. At times, I'm no better. Here's to hoping we'll improve rather than regress.
She also had a second baby not that long ago either, maybe a year or so? Most women's shapes change. I agree with you, who cares what she looks like, the playing 😍 plus, if I could look like that at her age, I would be pretty happy!!
The third movement always knocks my socks off even when I hear it on a radio station that plays classical music all the time. A wonderful and exuberant performance from Hilary.
Tonight I heard Hilary Hahn play this piece in Chicago with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It was splendid! The audience cheered and cheered and she favored us with an encore, music by Bach for solo violin.
And Mikko Franck was scheduled to conduct, but evidently too ill to travel, and Marin Alsop stepped in. It was a fine orchestral performance, too. The interpretation was not much different from what they are doing in this video.
I don’t see many people in the comments appreciating mr. Sibelius, so I’m gonna say this: Thank you soooo much to our Finnish friend for creating this iconic masterpiece!!! Without you, I’m 100% sure that none of this would have happened. So again, thank you Jean Sibelius:)
i am glad that i found twoset and the wide array of classical music they promote i feel blessed to be able to hear such beautiful creations over the noise .... months ago i never had any knowledge of classical music and now i see a whole world to dive into just love to all the ling lings out there

Ishita Bisht Actually there’s a misconception, I’m very happy that twoset brings people to classic music like this video, the thing I am annoyed that people put all their comments in a separate thread, when all these comments can literally be put under one or two main threads and not take up like the entire comment section. Furthermore I know many people come to these and other videos to comment Ling Ling and then leave without watching it to the end
Every time I watch this recording I can't help but think the flutist matched her nails to Hilary's dress on purpose. By far the best recording of this concerto!!
You know her playing is beyond excellent when the only negative comments people have are about her hair, the way she smiles at the orchestra during the tutti, and something about her bowl. (?)
@@nelsoncheng4638 If you look through the comments, there is one that says "Bowl." They could be referring to a bow, but they could to her haircut in this video.
Mikko immediately became my favorite conductor after this tour de force, he's so intense yet relaxed in equal measure...and the sick sick sick fit does not bloody hurt his case does it lol
I've watched both Ray Chen and Max Vengerov play this. Both were dripping with sweat at the end. Even Sarah Chang is a little dewy when she finishes. But, Hillary looks as cool and composed as when she started. An excellent performance. I know that no one can compare to Hiefetz, but they say he rarely, if ever, made a mistake and I think Hahn might one day be in thought of in the same way. Everything about her playing is exceptional.
i thought about this exactly. she is soooo insanely effortless in this performance and it translates to such a nuanced take on the piece. ray chen played it technically well but hilary seriously brought such a unique character to this.
I'm sorry but Hilary Hahn is definitly the best violinist for me. She has everything, incredible intonation, good technique and really beautiful style. Her second movement made me realise how good she is.
The artistic liberties that Mrs. Hahn takes really shows how much control she is in of the music and how long she has lived with this music. Her unique interpretation is a result of all of her past experiences and endeavors as a world-class soloist and human being.
@@benjaminlarrieu1631 Ah. The difference between a performer and an interpreter, perhaps. To perform is to do, to interpret is to translate, ie. to add something or alter or present in a new form. My own use of the language, to be sure. But grounded in the meanings of the two words. Of course, a performer must also perform in the theatrical sense of that word, so they still must do more than rote recitation/execution.
@@benjaminlarrieu1631 of course to take freedom in the way of playing but changing the rhythm in the third part is a bit too much in my opinion. I am from Finland so i am going to be biased when it comes to interpreting Sibelius. I just love sibelius way of compusing music and i dislike changing the music completely. Obviously you cant play exactly whats on the note but she does a bit too much in my opinion
Werner Telivuo I’m completely agree with you. However, I meant “artistic liberties” referring to her dynamic, articulation, and edge to her sound, not so much rhythm. Also, I love Sibelius as well. 😄
One of the best performances of anything, by anyone. Ever. They make you realise that the piece is even greater than you already knew it was. Ms Hahn’s virtuosity is musical, daring, apt, faultless and extraordinary. Speaking for myself, I don’t know whether to laugh with joy or cry - with joy. I usually manage to do both. Wonderful.
Not a violinist, but this is my favorite violin concerto, and I really love what she's doing with it. Someone else remarked about slight scratchy bow because of digging in for the drama, and I say YES, girl, YES! Do it!
It can be ok if it is done once in a while but she does it all the time even in soft and lyrical passages, which to me shows musical immaturity, because she can obviously play without doing that. She has good technique otherwise but It’s just obnoxious
Benjamin Sneyd-Utting how so, to me that shows that she seemingly cannot play any other way (she can tho) and the fact that she chooses not to do that means she seems more caught up in making that bow sound than letting the music sing like in the opening of the 1st mvt
The world needs this to be on Spotify. All of the other recordings can be savored for their own unique interpretation, but Hilary Hahn makes this instrument cry out in a way that conveys pain, anguish, passion, and happiness with such finesse and incredibly exceptional musicality. I’m so thankful to be able to exist in the same period of time as Hilary.
The third movement blew me away. Her genuine smile for the conductor and the orchestra all the while being able to play Every. Single. Glorious. Note. Wow! It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you, Hilary, conductor Mikko Franck, and the wonderful orchestra!
@Dmitri Shostakovich I recently learned that Hilary played this exact concerto in Belgium (where I live), with the Belgian national orchestra in January of this year. However, I only discovered this masterpiece recently hence I didn't knew about the event I curse myself every day for missing it!! I really wish that one day Ill be one day able to witness Hilary's talent, passion and emotion As an ex violin student this kind of playing really encourages me to pick it up again. It's all the more frustrating that this concerto is probably my favourite classical music piece.
This piece gives me the idea of a queen leading her troops into battle, and she is the first on the battlefield. Hilary an absolute dynamite of a violinist. I practically listen to her everyday! And her look backs to the rest of the orchestra and how she moves with the music even if it isn't her part! AGH I love her so much!
I did, in Madrid, 7 days before this recording, same orchestra and program, and I cannot describe how good it was. And Hilary signed the 13 cd booklets I took with me.
This is a great Violin concerto, and performed here by the wonderful Hilary Hahn. This concerto has the despair and angst of long, brutally cold winter built into its heart, with the swelling eagerness for warmth -- perhaps merely a memory of the previous summer -- only bursting through, briefly, in the final movement. At the same time, it carries within it the knowingly doomed hope of a man who dreamed of being a virtuoso violinist, only to realize that he had begun to learn the instrument at too advanced an age. Instead, Sibelius would gift us with one of the unquestioned masterpieces of the violin repertoire. Beautiful and dark, it remains, by all accounts, one of the most difficult pieces for a violinist to perform, let alone well, and one of the most deeply emotional works of music ever composed. Does the violin, at times, feel as though it is fighting the impossible struggle of the individual against nature, against fate, represented by the orchestra? Only for both to fall back into resigned harmony? This concerto certainly resonates for me in this manner. I suspect that I will always find Sibelius's Violin Concerto at its most poignant and moving on cold winter days, where the snow falls relentlessly upon the ground, demanding seemingly futile chronic returns into the thick of things with shovel in hand. Still, on this warm day in May, I will let this wonder remind me of why one can endure a long harsh winter, in knowledge that spring lies around the corner.
Mikko and Hilary seem so unpretentious and humble. Their love and respect of the music shine through in this memorable performance. Beautiful beyond words.
4:50 - 5:14 just wow. I teared up. And I don't even really listen to classical music. I saw a video of Hilary Hahn playing Paganini a couple years ago and was very impressed. Then TwoSet happened and I've started adding pieces I like from their videos to my Spotify. And now here I am tearing up to Sibelius.

His Violin Concerto is imbued both with his feeling for the instrument and the pain of his farewell to his “dearest wish” and “overriding ambition.”
And yet, he wrote one of the most challenging and physical demanding violin concertos ever.

Hilary is stunning in this, musicaly and emotionally entrancing, but I have to applaud the entire orchestra as they don't seem to be getting much love in the comments. the conductor was great, reminded me of Peter Griffin
Totally agree!
Absolutely. I noticed the conductor at the very beginning. He already gave a really emotional entry. Lovely.
There’s a special rapport. I’ve not seen Hilary smile this much during a performance!
It's so beautiful when the soloist considers the conductor clever enough and the conductor considers the soloist even more clever though. There were the known professional courtesy, so nice!
Both are so right in that! 😃
ego, sitting down, and smiles aside, he's no furtwangler because he's an actually good conductor! Furtwangler was very much not a good conductor.
he actually has a spine condition that requires him to take a seat once in a while......his having to sit down almost has nothing to do with your statement although I'm sure he might agree with the sentiment....

Hans Mahr well, sibelius vc is not about intensity, it's more emotional.
Uli Widmaier: Very well said
She will always be better to us twoset fans

Une joie pour les yeux, pour l'ouie et pour le coeur.
Loved all those extra “digging” sounds ! Yes what an exciting performance
God where is the humanity in that third movment 😂, she's still an alien...
Yeah, I wish they put mics for her further away. This was probably so incredible to hear live from a good seat. Her "scratching" is intentional and only makes impact and gives edge in a large hall. Too bad the sound engineers didn't do better.
This recording of Hahn seems to be saying
"Here's my Sibelius" rather than "Here's Sibelius" which is actually the pinnacle of musicality.
Mark Schoenberg kind of the point....it’s called artist integration.
I though this works are different from other version of Sibelius too.
Lawrence Cisek which is fine, pretty sure that’s what he was saying
I was agreeing. I guess I could made clearer.
So obnoxious.
Hilary has an elegance to her that does nothing but add to the music and the overall experience of beauty.
anyone bringing up her appearance in a negative way will burn in eternal hell fire.
I figure most of the human race still has a long way to go when it comes to maturity and holistic intelligence. It's a shame. At times, I'm no better. Here's to hoping we'll improve rather than regress.
@@somekid7 It's a pendulum. We already have regressed.
Didn't you just cry..
Yes!
Saw it Thursday. Wonderful! (But we didn't get an encore.)
And Mikko Franck was scheduled to conduct, but evidently too ill to travel, and Marin Alsop stepped in. It was a fine orchestral performance, too. The interpretation was not much different from what they are doing in this video.
Yes, I was there Thursday but no encore. And it WAS splendid indeed!
I don’t see many people in the comments appreciating mr. Sibelius, so I’m gonna say this:
Thank you soooo much to our Finnish friend for creating this iconic masterpiece!!! Without you, I’m 100% sure that none of this would have happened. So again, thank you Jean Sibelius:)

Ishita Bisht Actually there’s a misconception, I’m very happy that twoset brings people to classic music like this video, the thing I am annoyed that people put all their comments in a separate thread, when all these comments can literally be put under one or two main threads and not take up like the entire comment section.
Maybe she’s one of those people that don’t sweat even after running 5 km 🤷🏻♂️
Horses sweat, men perspire, ladies merely glow. ( 'Hilary', 'Heifetz' - nice to spell their names correctly!)

The artistic liberties that Mrs. Hahn takes really shows how much control she is in of the music and how long she has lived with this music. Her unique interpretation is a result of all of her past experiences and endeavors as a world-class soloist and human being.
I do not agree with her interpretations at some point in this incredible piece. I think the composers way is perfect
Werner Telivuo I understand your point of view, but then what is the purpose of the performer? (Interpretation)

Do it!
I couldnt agree more. The final part ( 35:00 ) its like hearing Sibelius crying and shouting... just beautiful
Yes! Give me that vocal hash! The violin truly speaks in her hands!
It can be ok if it is done once in a while but she does it all the time even in soft and lyrical passages, which to me shows musical immaturity, because she can obviously play without doing that. She has good technique otherwise but It’s just obnoxious
2 Planks and 2 Wheels a fair opinion, but immature my ass

Damn! So well worded.
Beautifully written.
Thank you for the kind comments!
