    Tim,
    Great job as always! I have dim on my ESU lok sound consists a little different. I use F4 as a cab swap. I set the up button on the PT as function 4 latching. Lead loco is “not f4”. Once f4 is pressed the trail loco becomes the lead. Works just like the real deal. I will make a video next time I run to demonstrate.
    Drive hold is the bees knees. I use it the same way.
    Greg

      Thanks Greg! I’ve got a couple of videos on the channel to show how I program my units to operate like the prototype. It was important for me to get the most out of my function map because most controllers don’t have enough easily accessible function keys without having to go through extra steps. Sounds cool what you did though.

    I’m really enjoying this new series on operations. Not being a railroader myself I’m fascinated by how real RR’s do the job. I already simulate some of this action on my N scale layout but there’s a lot I don’t know. Learned a lot in this video alone. Now I have to figure out how to make working derails in N scale. Keep up the great work and these excellent videos. 👍👍

      Thank you! It is the ProtoThrottle from Iowa Scaled Engineering. I use mine with an NCE DCC system. Yes, the ProtoThrottle is expensive and may not be for everyone but I absolutely love mine. I own two and operate all my trains with them. To me they make all other controllers seem boring. But that’s my opinion. I have more videos on the channel talking about the throttle if you want to go back and check them out.

    Really enjoyed Part 2 for the same reason as Part 1. If it would ever be possible, one day I would love to see your layout in person as I live in the Huntsville, AL area (not that far away from you). Even if that’s not possible I want you to know that I've been in this hobby for 60 years & I have learned more layout/track laying techniques & operational tips from you in the last couple of years than probably in the last 25. Thanks again for all the time & effort that you put into these videos Tim - they are inspiring.

      Thank you very much! I really appreciate it. When I have free time I will open the layout to show to a limited number of guests. I don’t have a lot of parking and my driveway is too steep to ask folks to walk up. If you plan a trip to the Atlanta area send me a message and I’ll see if I am free. As you know I work for the railroad and they keep me super busy.

    Thanks so much for videos such as this. For those of us who don’t run the 1:1 trains, these kind of tips on how to it prototypically are really helpful. I tended to use Drive Hold before I increased the throttle, to get the prime mover going before the train moved. But, watching what you do made me think about it. I suppose even on a longer heavier train, the engines would get moving earlier, because of the slack action running out.

    I always wondered why some switching operations seemed to make unnecessary movements. Now I know. Just giving the conductor a ride.

    • @SeaboardCentral
      @SeaboardCentral  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely necessary from a conductor’s perspective. Who wants to do all that walking when you can ride for free!

  • @rogerthomas9017
    @rogerthomas9017 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Any reason for SC to use three person crews rather than two - engineer and Conductor also filling the brakeman's job? Does the SC standardize on standard MPH settings for each PT notch? Very good speeds in your ops. Ever thought about actually placing on-ground figures in the correct spot in a video? Keep 'em coming.

    • @SeaboardCentral
      @SeaboardCentral  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been a railroader for the last 30 years. I’ve seen the accountants who have no idea what the responsibility of each craft does come in and eliminate positions to increase profits. Even when the effect means sacrificing customer service. On the SC, all switcher assignments are made up of three person crews since the SC survives on providing exceptional services compared to class one carriers. :) And yes, I have speeds mapped out. I you can find them on my older decoder programming videos which are on the channel.

    Very nice op. I notice that you have a very nice set of cars with very good weathering, however, I noticed that you don't have much gratifies on those, and I don't know your position on them, but they unfortunately are part railroad life. Are you going to do some more?

    • @SeaboardCentral
      @SeaboardCentral  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I try to model cars according to what they looked like in 2015 which is the time period I model. A lot of grain cars then didn’t have much due to not spending as much time in urban areas compared to boxcars and other types. For my reference I use rrpicturearchives.net and search for a specific car number or one in the same series taken during 2015. This gives me ideas on how the weathering is and if it was tagged.

    • @Christiane069
      @Christiane069 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeaboardCentral OK, thanks for the feedback. Yea, I do more modern period, and when I watch videos thought the country of course gratifies are all over. I like the way you did the track weathering, very appropriately done.
