I had another person sitting in back to push the rear shade down when it started to make the noise. Then I shifted the car into the park position and pulled the fuse out like the video showed. Now the shade stays down permanently. Video was great help thank you!

I have a 2008 Avalon Limited as well. The shade has stopped functioning and I was quoted $1200 for the replacement part. After a good deal of research I find this has been a chronic problem FOR 10 YEARS WITHOUT HAVING AN APPROPRIATE SOLUTION. I can't believe Toyota has let this continue. We love the car and Toyota but this in unbelievable.
I agree. Just bought my '06 Avalon yesterday, rear shade already stuck up. This is a well documented, widespread issue. Should be a recall, as it presents a safety hazard for drivers at night to have the shade up.
Yep, Toyota should be ashamed! I had a 2008 Limited that had this same problem. Had to disable the shade by removing the fuse, which caused me to lose my clock and dome lights. Purchased a 2011 Limited 2 years ago and the same problem occurred 2 weeks ago! Toyota has had 13 years to correct the problem. UNBELIEVABLE!

Thanks a bunch. I have this same problem. My 2007 limited is stuck in the down position and every time I put it in reverse after starting it makes that horrible buzzing noise. It drives me nuts and is quite embarrassing when I have friends or family in the car with me. Great car other than this silly issue.

I have a 2007 Avalon limited and the sunshade is stuck. It will not come down and when you put it in reverse it sounds like a Gatling gun….so frustrating and the shops don’t have a clue how to fix it and I dread going to a dealership because…well you know how they are. 😞

This worked perfectly for disabling that loud racket. No impact to cruise control or signal lights that some have said would be affected. This was on my 2006 Avalon limited edition.

I got a 2012 Toyota Avalon, I usually press the shade button to stop it from making any noise but this is useful. Definitely going to try this
Test your cruise control and other funnctions if you do this my daughters 07 Avalon xle cruise control and electric seats stopped working also

Report the defective sunshade to the NHTSA for recall due to poor visibility during night driving with the curtain stuck in the upright position.

Don't do this, it disables your blinkers as well
