It seems meta has broken multitasking on the Quest 2. I'm on the latest v51 update now, and it doesn't work. It also seems to not be working for many others 🙁 Until they bring it back, the standalone version of this will only work while outside of VR apps 🙁
This is a weird one. I as the device owner cannot use a lot of multitasking. My headmate, who has an account on my headset, can. Try making a secondary account and trying multitasking on that account to see if it works there.
about that. I reaaaaaally wanna multitask myself as well with my quest2. sooooo ive taken up scripting a threejs webxr page ( threejs 0.132.0 three.module.min.js currently, in this specific instance ) and i've been trying to find a way to use their css renderer, (its not going to work) BUT BUT ive got 3 s running. one with the offical css youtube threejs example (PLUS a VRButton) another with bookmarks of my project's progress and the last one is the frame the bookmarks run in. THE BEST part is, if i play the youtube vid in the css frame, then click the ARButton, i can load a vr scene, AND the music keeps going. perfect! I just can't render the css tube to see properly in the webgl renderer. today, i just noticed if i load another youtube page of mine (using their API) in the last it TOO plays along as well) THE (biggest) PROBLEM ive encountered is a horrific 11 on the volume knob, ear peircing crinkling sound glitch i guess as the two auido streams fight for portions of the audio drivers mem. i dunno. that level of in the software is beyond me. so, ive noticed that multitasking (music and a vr scene) can work. but ive also noticed perhaps a good reason as to why they put all that on pause for now. maybe. i dunno. but i figured you might find some interest in it
It’s so annoying having to take my headset off every 5 minutes to text my girlfriend. Sometimes I tell myself I’ll respond later and accidentally forget to respond for 40+ minutes. This is absolutely huge! I can’t wait to give it a try.
I tried it a few times in 2021. I thought it was good except I'd get weird disconnects sometimes or other issues so I stopped. Have you used it recently, how is it?
It would be nice if oculus can implement it like you do with keyboards. You can see the phone screen in VR and actually interact it with your hands. It should be easy to track iPhones since there aren't many.
@@ifur that’s the things friend, the keyboard isn’t on a screen lol. A compute screen or phone screen because it produces its image with light….quests pass through isn’t good enough for that and I don’t think any software update could fix that unless it was something similar to this where your phones software was being used through the actual processing power of the headset if that makes sense. The quest pro might have a better chance with this with its improved quality, but for the current quest 2’s pass through, there is no navigating anything with an illuminated screen🥲
@@LilScotty10 think he means just mapping this digital phone screen you see in VR to your physical phone. so you can use your physical phone to move and control the virtual screen you see in VR.

this is one of the most important things for VR users. It allows them to still keep connected with outside world when they need to. And I think this will be a huge factor for apple users when Apple releases their own VR headset. They will be able to integrate apple watch and iphones and ipads to their VR headset.. which will give lots of value. On a side note, I am wondering when we will get some wonderful AI tools to use chatGPT inside of VR. I am especially interested in how generative AI photos or videos (or even 3D spaces/sculptures) will be able created, used, and manipulated within VR. I tried creating stereoscopic 3d images with Bing's AI photo creator.. but all it would give me is red/blue 3d images and i got one side by side stereographic image. but niether image was viewable in 3d or stereographically inside of VR. AI will be able to do some amazing things in creating VR objects and spaces/worlds.
Integration of ChatGPT-4 into VR chat as a bot would be cool. Maybe a world with an assistant that could spawn in flat or 3d objects that you describe verbally?
6:05 for people using older android there is an additional program for the audio which is used in pretty much the same way simultaneously with scrcpy called sndcpy 👍
This is a pretty nice tutorial. Usually i just use oculus' window pin feature while ur in the pcvr home, but having the window staying on my wrist or always locked onto a fixed position of my FOV is a much better solution (if i turn while having the pinned window, the window stays where it's at and doesn't follow me)
i mean not really. You've been able to do this stuff on PCVR for awhile like read chat, but on standalone you still have to pause the game and then open the application.... and that's IF you can even multi task on Quest 2. Currently, I can not
2:50 actually, you can restrict unattended access to only ids you allow (it'll ask you for a password, click on always log me in from now on, and you're set), if any other id attempts to connect, even if they know the password, they will just be denied on the spot without even asking for confirmation or denial. i've been using this method with connecting to my laptop with my phone for at least a year now and it works pretty great.
Bonus points: Achually strap the phone to your wrist for maximum immersion! Tap the actual phone, see its screen at the same position in VR! For even more bonus points, leave the phone on your wrist after leaving VR. Pockets are so last century, it's PipBoy time!

I use Android Emulator (crashes sometimes) or Bluestacks since if I want a phone inside VR I want it to be exclusively dedicated to VR, and only use it to interact with discord or to use the web more comfortable. Problem is that is quite heavy.
This video was great! I use an iPhone so, its pretty much pointless for me to have my phone with me in VR if I can’t interact with it and the thing that sucks most is that apple will most likely restrict remote access to their own headsets to keep users trapped in their ecosystem 🙄
Probably Apple will brag "how seamless" using your iPhone in their $4000 AR glasses will be once it's revealed later this or next year and later minions will claim that Apple invented casting your phone screen to the computer or headset.

I've been having this issue lately. I put on my headset and the guardian doesn't kick in right away, after a couples of seconds it does which sometimes causes my headset to completely bug out. When I actually manage to get everything working, I try to open a game, for example B&S Nomad, and not only does my headset start lagging out a lot but after loading into the character selection screen the game just freezes and the headset gives out an error saying com.guardian has stopped working. Does anybody have any idea of what might be causing this? It seems that it's something related to the guardian but I only find people with the same issue and no solutions.
well one solution is to factory reset your headset and start fresh, its not really a solution but it would most likely get your headset running smooth again

I have android 8 so... no sound ok. but when I'm in a game and watch my phone, the game fall in sleep mode (AFK) and when I return in the game it run normaly but without the sound of the game... Then I'm obliged to go to my desktop and click on my game window to have the sound on and next return in the game... Have someone any idees to fix that?
Does it keep your apps running trough the quest if you quit the phone viewing app and play games? For example, if you use discord and stream trough the oculus app via screen mirroring to discord does it keep the stream up?
Im having problems. When its connect it to my phone. I try to press the home button. From my Quest and it didnt want to work. When i put the home button from my phone. It automatically disable the connection.

@@abellau4105 the basic functionality of floating windows that can be anchored to your controllers is built into SteamVR.. you can go to the desktop view and add additional views that can then be docked to a controller or float in the play space..
Does the real phone's screen have to be on while doing this? So while you're wearing the headset and interacting with your phone via AnyDesk, anyone in the room might be watching your physical phone screen without your knowledge?

As a Samsung user I tend to use Window's Phone Link app to connect my phone to my PC.
Really handy when I am in PCVR.

Using the quest 3, I tried downloading any desk on A pk pure and it just downloaded a file that won't open. Plus it's not showing in unknown sources

Trackable keyboards are a thing. They show up inside vr just like the controllers do. Atleast I know they do in the quest

The great thing is you can control from either the motion controllers or the phone.
Imagine being able to make calls in Vrchat and you can put it on loud speaker and everyone can talk to who you on the phone with.

@@abellau4105 the basic functionality of floating windows that can be anchored to your controllers is built into SteamVR.. you can go to the desktop view and add additional views that can then be docked to a controller or float in the play space..

Does the real phone's screen have to be on while doing this? So while you're wearing the headset and interacting with your phone via AnyDesk, anyone in the room might be watching your physical phone screen without your knowledge?
