  • Join us for a timely conversation with “The Americans” stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys and co-show runner Joel Fields about bringing the critically acclaimed, Peabody Award-winning and Emmy Award-nominated drama series to an end. Set during the Reagan era, “The Americans” is a period drama about the complex marriage of two K.G.B. spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington, D.C. Fields, Russell and Rhys will unpack the final season and its renewed relevance to current events in the Trump administration, in a discussion moderated by Mark Mazzetti, The New York Times Washington investigative correspondent who coordinated last year’s coverage of Russian interference with the 2016 election.
    Filmed live at TheTimesCenter.

    Rep from the New York Times in his intro says the panel will “unpack”the final season! If I hear one more person use that word I’m going to jab my eye out with a stick!

    How weird was it that moderator bluntly asked guests about their religious inclinations? Good thing it was ignored. He doesn't know, with his journalistic pedigree, that entertainers are not politicians? Religion is a very private thing in the US of A particularly when your business relies heavily on public favor and you want the focus on your work, which is the portrayal of OTHER people.

    • @KSfan4ever
      @KSfan4ever 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree, the religious question to the guests was wildly inappropriate and Keri side-stepped it brilliantly talking about Elizabeth's shock at Paige's religious interest.

      It all depends on his hair. When it's curly and unruly he is not as attractive as when it is combed and managed.

    Does anyone know what scenes the clips are? It would be nice to know, now the season is fully aired, what they're talking about.

      The second one made them laugh so hard, I'm so curious!
      The first one - I assume - is the "I don't want to be like them" scene. The third one is "I need sleep, let me sleep" where Elizabeth comes home, and Philip wants to talk to her.

      clip 1: episode 3, 33 minutes in (Elizabeth makes the Washington Post comment).
      clip2: hard one. Russel aks Rhys if it was "his episode", he said "kind of". He directed episode 2. Rhys makes a comment about the wig in the scene looking like a young John Denver. It was about killing. All this points to the last scene of episode 2 where Elizabeth ends up with brain on her face.
      clip3: episode 1, ca. 51 minutes in.

    The connections between current day Russian related issues (centered around trump) and this show were really non existent and I think it’s really odd how the moderator kept pushing it. The KGB dissolved into a different organization anyway, the KGB does not exist in the current day in the way it did during the Cold War, so why focus so much on that? Idk. This moderator bore me.

      I feel we were propagandized by the writer Joe Weisberg who was a CIA agent for 5 years. There is so much killing done by Philip and Elizabeth. Yet when I google KGB agents in America I only find that they actually only have killed KGB defectors. We have to be aware of the use of movies and TV as tools of propaganda as well as mainstream news media and newspapers.

    Prediction: The Chicago Illegal's (Harvest) death scene in the van was a foreshadow of how Philip dies. With his last breath he passes a message on to his son Mischa for Elizabeth to deliver once she returns to the Soviet Union with the kids.

      Elizabeth is a zealot, always was since her early training. The story is partly how this blinds her and blocks her from functioning as a person and as a human being. It ultimately brings about all that reckless violence, indoctrination of her own daughter despite her daughters own safety and blocks her from loving her husband. The tragedy of ideological indoctrination is what destroys the Soviet Union and is about to destroy her own daughter and she does not see It at all. A zealot is a dangerous person, of any political or extremist ideology.

      She also put her jacket on her lap right after she seated. Clearly not anticipated the angle of the viewers in the front row when she picked her attire.
