This totally saved me!! I just bought a refurbished Oled and it’s absolutely perfect- except for the loose joycon on the left side! I didn’t want to have to do a lengthy return process and wait another two weeks for the new one to ship, but now I don’t have to. I don’t mind a tiny dab of tape on my switch as long as she works perfectly, which she does now, thanks to you! 🖤
This tape method really worked for me, always felt uncomfortable playing my switch and having the joycons feel loose as, they were wobbly as hell when connected to the switch and now it’s comfortable to play!
Thank u so much for making this tutorial! My joycon rail is loose and sometimes disconnects whilst I'm playing so this has almost fully removed the problem!
MUCH better! I rarely take my Joycons off and play mobile. If it's docked I'm using the pro controller. I opted for 2 layers of Black Electrical tape by 3m. I found through the years that their adhesive is better. The whole assembly now feels solid and more robust. Thank you for this video
Awesome video. A tip for others watching this: i had to add 3 layers of tape to mine to make it really snug. When your pulling the joycon down to make it click, pull it out sideways slightly, so that it goes 'over' the sticky tape otherwise it will just push it down when sliding down. This will make the joycon sit 'over' the sticky tape, and the end result is it sits really firm and snug!
Tysm this actually helped. I got my switch out of the box yesterday and it was wobbly. When I found this tutorial, it helped out! I would recommend this!
Thank you so MUCH! Dude you bring a smile on my face it was so uncomfortable playing switch handed while my joycons feel woobly every single time, even both of them where disconnected while playing/ and now they feel so firm and well attached to the console, also the grip feeling is so comfortable and i no need to buy those Fix replacement to open the joycon, thanks a lot !
I just bought my new Nintendo device today and the right controller was having problems. I will try the solution you showed me tomorrow, thank you very much in advance.
thank you. My controller was disconnecting and this seemed to fixed it. An OLED with a little bit more than a year having this problem, Nintendo needs to address this in their next system.
Hell yeah Man! It works. If you have loose joycons try this instantly.I thought I would have to repair my switch but this simple trick was a magic.thanks man appreciate your great work. Now I can play zelda without any issue on handheld mode.
Broooooooo i just bought the buckles and shit and was looking for a video on replacing them when I found your video WTF I never would have thought that was what the problem was! Cheers. Saved me a bunch of time and effort!!
great idea, alot of people think its the joycon... its not i have 2 oled switches for my boys, 1 uses it daily alot and the other 2 times a week... both after just a few weeks had this issue... i even had to send one back as the switch its self had an issue... the replacement had the not locking issue after a few weeks also! so 6 joycons 3 switches ....with litle use! i even did the metal latch mod... lasted a day... same issue.... i think your vid shows the real issue... nintendo need to fix their design... would not be so bad if they made them slid up to lock so no chance of the switch falling even if not locked. Thankyou for fixing our issue.... maybe send to nintendo and have them fix their tooling! :)
I was looking at my nintendo very closely and saw a difference on the oled itself left vs right. But came here to see if buying other joycons will fix the problem, which I thought wouldn’t.. guess based on ur comment buying other joycons won’t fix the problem right?
you're goddamn lifesaver! i just bought switch oled yesterday. and this joycon annoying me too damn much. it's fixed %95 but still there is a little loose but not annoying that much.
I had this same issue, but my chip wasn't as bad. This video taught me the issue, and I found a free solution is to bend the rail on the side of the lock a bit more inward. The rail on the side of the lock has a bit more give, and that can also cause this problem. I didn't need to bend it that much as mine wasn't chipped that bad, but depending on the severity of the chip this might not be a viable solution for everyone. The best solution is the metal locks, but it's also a difficult solution that can run you $5-$10 you might not have (I know I don't atm so I needed a free fix, and super glue is too risky as it can glue the lock).
@@m0nsta_bh61 so the rail on the side of the lock (the rail closer to the back) has a bit of give so if you can find the little hole for the lock to slide into you can bend it inwards a bit with a fork or anything else that's stronger than the rail itself. Just don't bend it too much or it'll be harder to put the joycons on. This also will only work if the chip in the plastic lock piece isn't too bad, and has a little room to catch the rail slot
My switch did this new from the box. Ive never used the joycons always a controler. Im glad its a easy fix. I dont even have 20 hours on my switch. Lol
The railing system on the joycons gets looser the more you use it so yeah buying new joycons should fix it, but the most optimal way to fix this problem is by replacing the plastic part that catches the rail
Maybe it depend how we use/game we play, been playing from 2017 until today only got drift issue a bit i still use alcohol to clean inside analog. Joycon i change the buckle into metal too, so much more durable.
Does this stop working at a while as my joycons literally fly off with a simple tap at the bottom. Do you think this would fix it? Also I tried with see through tape and didn’t work well for long but at one point my joycons wouldn’t connect because of the tape. Why?
This one hundred% work but you don’t have to use electrical tape I used sealing tape and it still worked you just have to put more layers but I do prefer electrical tape tho
I just bought an oled model like a week ago, I haven't even used it that much, but it was loose already. This worked like a charm. Thank you so much!
Me too😭
They made it like this so when you drop it the shock goes to the joy cons only and not the device...
Same here, Nintendo quality at his finest
I got a V2 Non-OLED 3wks ago and despite my care for the product it still happened
@foxyou4089 I sold the console lol, didn't need it anyway. Xbox rules. Gamepass is amazing and fulfills all my gaming needs.
I almost bought those metallic slider replacements for "fixing" this thing, and your video saved me. Thanks a lot, internet stranger!!!
I did that and it did nothing to fix the problem😅. Mine disconnect on both sides if they move in the slightest upward on both sides

Just bought the Legion Go and after 3 days I noticed some play in the controllers. This solved the problem and it feels solid again. Thanks!

What an amazingly simple and easy fix. Thanks a bunch, mate. Cheers.
This worked perfectly. It depends on how thick the tape is though as I has to use 4-5 cutouts.
Yes, the result depends on the thickness of the tape
@@mattiataccori6487 i only used 2 cutouts
@@mattiataccori6487 what kind of tape did you use
One small square worked for me. I used scotch 700 black electrical tape
2 cutouts will be fine

If the problem still persists, try screwing the screws on the side where the joy on connects to make them tighter,
2 layers did the job thank you!!
Doing good work out here. Short and to the point.

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH! THIS IS A GREAT TEMPORARY FIX!
This works amazingly well
I had the same problem withy my oled new with one hour of play, thank you for the solution ! 🙏
You’re welcome!
I just took a old plastic card like a prepaid card cut a small piece and wedged it between the rail fixed it perfectly and the controller holds it in
Thank you so much! Now I won’t have to deal with that wiggle while playing.
Glad it worked!
I JUST TRIED THIS HACK, OMG ! 100% WORKS MAN, THANK YOU SO MUCH 🔥
Can you use masking tape or normal tape?
Honestly thank you dude, this was my biggest problem, more than joycon drift
Is that tape or what is that you just put on the screen to stop wobble?

Oh wow it really works. Can't believe is that simple…. What if it gets loose again? Just put another piece of tape?

I cut it my self form the tape roll

I’m doing this because my wobbly joycon makes creaky noises and the noises stop when its tight
thanks , i can finally play in handheld mode
I just used metal locks instead now.
I have read about the trick online but i have done it wrong all the time. thanks a lot. fixed it for me

Amazing tip! Thank you very much!
That black tape you used did it come with the nintendo switch?
No, it’s electrical tape that i bought from my local hardware store. You can find it on Amazon too
Can we use any kind of tape or electric one is necessary?
Try different types of tape but take a look at the thickness. It shouldn’t be too thick

Thank you i cut a small wall glue i bought from ali express along time ago ans it worked

I put on electric tape but still had a slight wiggle, is that normal?
It may depends on the tape thickness. Have you tried to put another layer of tape on top of the one you already put?

It is electrical tape
So the main problem is the tablet or the joycon? It works but im scare damage the tablet?
It won’t damage the console, it just make the joycon tighter to the console
worked, thanks.
Does it have to be electric tape or can I use duct tape
I think that duct tape can work too
Want to know what is that black thing you used please
It looks like some type of black tape
More like 20 minutes I gotta run to the store🤣 thanks tho
😂😂😂
Thank you so much. You're a lifesaver
Did you use double sided tape or just normal ???
Normal tape
Now what if my lock is just not working? Like a can slide it right off with a little force. Without pressing in the button
