Thanks for this video, followed it step by step to replace those parts in my joycons. MUCH more sturdy now.
Also while the metal brackets in that pck are fantastic replacements I will say that the screwdrivers both did not fit my joycon and I needed to buy a completely different set to actually take it apart.

I bought a kit similar to the one that you showed and used this video as the tutorial. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love my new metal lock! I can concur that it is a lot more sturdy and solid. Waaay better than sending it in for repair for a couple of weeks only to have it break again.

    • @lexer25
      @lexer25 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

And not only that but if you have special joycons they have a disclaimer that if it cannot be fixed they can send you normal joycon replacements like blue/red/grey. I figure this is something that is easily repaired by them but it makes me super nervous considering I have Animal Crossing joycons.

Thank you so much it worked like a charm! - I have to add one little tip for others: When screwing back the black color screw at @3:55, make sure you don't tighten it all the way. That will cause the latch to get stuck and not work correctly.

I'm looking for all the help I can get! I got my first ever Switch for my birthday yesterday. I got the version 2 HAC-001 (-01) model. I have the system itself set up. It's just the neon red and blue joy cons I'm having problems with. I'm trying to get the joy cons in the controller shell, but the joy cons seem like they're not the correct size. I just tried to size up the red joy con, but when I did, the joy con did line up with the inside. However the outer part of the joy con is sitting on top of the controller shell/holder. It wont slide in like it's supposed to. I'm just really looking for some help, as I have no idea what I'm doing, and all I wanna do is play my new Switch. Some help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • @darkhalf9134

My left joy con has this problem and I don't know when it started but noticed it today. I never detached these after getting a Pro Controller for docked mod but I occasionally use handheld mode. The thing is it's easy to knock off if hitting from the bottom (not the back) of the joy con but I think in normal usage it won't be a problem. I mean it takes more force to move from side but still my palm of my hand might be easy enough pressure to move it from bottom. Still annoying and my OCD about it is a bother but oh well. Maybe I will try this video's fix but I have a regular Switch and was looking to get a Switch Lite eventually for handheld usage. I would like to get a OLED model as well but not in a rush to spend $350 on another full Switch compared to a $200 Switch Lite. Still wish they would release an OLED Switch Lite though as I rather have a Switch Lite but still want that OLED screen of the OLED model. Basically want the best of both worlds.

I’ve just replaced mine in both pairs of joycons I own. They now lock perfectly and don’t slip out during play as happened before. I’ve never repaired any piece of electronics before so that tells you the process is relatively simple. I did make a couple of mistakes along the way however. For anyone out there thinking about doing theirs this may help:
1: when taking the 4 screws off on the back, press firmly against the screw head to loosen it then unscrew as normal. Take care not to damage the head of the screw. I dropped one on the carpet and have not been able to find it. Perhaps do it on a white towel!? The ones provided in the Amazon pack (I bought) were useless imo.
2: When you prise open the joycon be careful with the 2 ribbon cables as I accidentally knocked both out on one attempt. When I put the middle one back the lights identifying which number joycon wouldn’t work. I found a vid that explained I had to lever out the battery, take out 3 screws from the plate to remove it and get access to the ribbon connector. I opened the clip, fed it in and pushed the clip down: it works perfectly now.
3: There is a small screw that needs to be removed so you can remove the back plate making it easier to work with.
4: After unscrewing the metal plate holding the plastic bit you are replacing, take a flat headed screwdriver and gently lever out the metal plate. When you take out the plastic piece be careful not to lose the spring.
5: When replacing the plastic piece for a metal one, realise there is a left and right bit so make sure you put the correct one in. I hadn’t fully read the instructions and missed this. Dumb luck of 50/50 meant I got them the right way around.
6: when putting the plate back on don’t over tighten the screw (as I did) as the button will stick. You can test this (as I should have) before reassembling.
7: Reassemble ensuring you fold the ribbon cables in the right way so as not to damage them and enjoy a controller whose joycons no longer slip out.

I went through all the steps of replacing the latch and the joycon still slides off without pressing the release button. What could be the problem?

I have same yet diff issue…… my left rail is the issue, because all my joycons including new ones slide off… but on my 2nd switch it doesn’t slide off. So it’s my left rail causing the same issue… not the joycons, ugh

I have this issue with my old joycons AND my brand new pair. So I think my issue is on the Switch itself. I can’t find any videos on that

The plastic they made it with for that specific part is a point of failure. Unfortunately, it needs to be replaced with the metal parts that are more durable.
This is likely due to bean counters vs. engineers at Nintendo.

I followed this, and it made the problem worse. The controller doesn't fall off, but it slips loose with a tiny amount of pressure, just enough to break the connection between game and controller. Now I don't know what the hell to do.

If I can only replace it for 10$ why doesn’t Nintendo just make them metal to begin with smh. This is such an inconvenient repair for something I had for less than a month and barely used
