    Matt I just scored my first toggle in great shape on eBay for $227.50. I’m excited to add it to my ever growing collection of vintage Gillettes. Thx for the history lesson.

    My favorite part of this video is when Matt thinks of an example of a model Apple iPhone and says 9. It’s the one model number they skipped😁

    This is one of your best videos yet, Matt! I know you "collection pieces stay in the collection" but it would be amazing for you to do a full shave with one. I mean, in past videos, you mentioned how you used your Hoffritz for 2yrs before it went into the collection...

      @@RazorEmporium *be careful with those… the Smithsonian is gonna be knocking on your door soon Lol great video I just had my first shave with the Superspeed with the notch. What a great smooth shave I had so comfortable, yet so efficient! I have my *E3 1959 Gillette Fatboy coming in two days!* I’m starting to like the idea of adjustable and if I like that Fatboy I’m gonna look into the Rex Ambassador* adjustable’s are like having 10 razors in one…. every blade has so many possibilities. I need a razor for heavy growth and one I can dial in for a daily driver

  • @Deadbuck73

    The toggle is beautiful... and it led to great things... excited to see what the Rex Ambassador leads to! Maybe a toggle?! Also... Chromium on the Criterion...

    I love my D1 Toggle, it has about 70% plating and most of the black digits are worn away. It's a user that gives some of my most comfortable shaves.

    Thanks for the lesson, Matt. I've never seen one, but I'm looking! I did pick up two "black beauties" with one plastic case a couple of weeks back for $25 at a vintage yard sale, so I was happy with that.

    Great video Matt. I’m glad you emphasized that the Toggle design, though gorgeous in presentation and collectibility, was not the peak of actual practical use and that Gillette continued to improve with the Fat Boy, Slim, and Super Adjustables. Cheers 👍🏻💈

    @taylordutton4347 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve never used this razor, but the slim adjustable numbers don’t line up with this video, the red tip is like a 4 or so on the slim adjustable, and anything above goes above a red tip IMO

    Another superb history lesson of Gillette razors Matt👍 Didn't know there were so many variations of the Toggle. Personally, I would only have one for show, not to use. Amazing that the better they became the less they cost, interesting. I just saw a news article that said because of Millennial men letting their beards grow out, P&G (Gillette) has lost billions in razor sales!🤔 Dollar Shave and Harry's was also mentioned as a factor. I don't think the Gillette ads helped either. Great video. Enjoy!

    How much are these worth now? Let’s say less than mint condition? I just bought one with the case that turns into a travel case “d-1” is the serial code, I paid $75…works great..did I do ok or did I over pay?

    I went to the junk shop to grab an extra razor. I figured any old one would do. Cashier pulls one out of the coffee mug full of pens. $20, that's how much a new, boring one costs so I'll just go ahead and pay it for this old one. It's a toggle. Best $20 I ever spent.

    When I first got into Traditional WetShaving I though the Gillette Toggle looked like a Light Switch. And of corse I thought it was badass

  • @brianboeglin8823
    @brianboeglin8823 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I totally appreciate the engineering evolution but the toggle is the best looking design, in my opinion. Do you see the Rex Ambassador taking the same evolutionary path? Maybe it’ll evolve into a toggle 😜

    • @RazorEmporium

      I don't see anything to gain. More complexity and more problems. Gillette abandon the design for a reason.

    Hi Matt. I would like that toggle for Christmas. I just bought a couple of polishing cloths from you, so can I have it? Please. Please. Please. I will play with it forever. Please Matt. Can I have it? Can I have it? I will look after it, I promise. Please Matt, can I have it for Christmas. 49-year-old kids, eh? They just don't give up, do they?! Thanks for a great vid, Matt. Happy Christmas.

    Great video Matt, Gillette made some beautiful razors and everything about them was first class, to bad they went the way of ugly cartridge razors.

    This is a message to anyone who is thinking to send in a razor to pisarcik &co.
    They have my razor for a revamp since December 2019. Now is July 2020. As of today there is no sign of the serviced and revamped 1907 single ring Gillette razor. I've received a few misleading e-mails and a bunch of excuses during the 7 months period. Now, they even stopped answering to my emails. I don't know what is going on in his service shop, but I have the feeling that I can kiss my razor and $100+ goodbye.
    So, just a friendly advice: think twice before you are sending in something valuable to that guy, you might never see it again.
