Welcome to the first of 2 NEW films charting my week-long adventure of shipwreck tales and discoveries on the islands of Scilly, off the coast of Cornwall. Around my art practice during a week of art residency*, I went searching for remains of a wreck, and to find out more about these historical islands. I welcomed Nicola @tidelineart to enjoy the adventure - DOUBLE TROUBLE!
In rolling fog and armed with a box of vintage books, I head off to find out more about the wreck of the SOPHIE in 1896, taking in a 17th century castle lookout, low tide sand flats, exotic gardens, traditional pilot gig boats and a coastal inn. Also I catch up with my islander friend Emma at the pub over a bag of her shipwreck beach finds... and a big surprise was waiting for me in that bag!
So excited to share the experience with you all and hope you enjoy the mute sounds of the foghorn, and the sea views x 🌊
Ps - as a reminder, no metal detecting on the islands. The land and foreshore are owned by the Duchy of Cornwall who do not permit the use of metal detectors. Also, the islands are covered in protected ancient monuments. Thats why this is a beachcombing eyes-only adventure!

PS *art residency - this is a period of time for an artist to make new work inspired by a place. My creative practice as a seascape artist includes painting alongside my search work, gathering beach combing finds, researching history and finding out about coastal communities.
