Anyone playing with a smart dimmer to ramp up and down throughout the DAY? So mimicking nature... something like 2hrs @25%, 2hrs @50%, 2hrs @75% 4hrs @100% 2hrs @75%, 2hrs @50%, 2hrs @25% Based on a Dr Bugbee video regarding stomatal conductance (or something like that) and how plants basically don't photosynthesize at full capability when lights turn on, and actually slow down before the lights turn off... The above scenario would equal 62% light for the entire 16 hr light cycle, but something tells me the more natural progression and regression would trigger less stress and even use electricity more efficiently because the plant is photosynthesizing more efficiently at these times of the day

I appreciate the video , however I don’t believe this is correct , I simply just blast my clones / seedlings at 100% from day one and they thrive . And it’s not diminished returns because you will be running yours at 40% 60% 80% for more days than I just run mine at 100% and I’m ready to flower sooner with bigger trees . It’s just a myth that they need to gradually go up , outside in my garden on a clear day new plants get 2000 par straight away . Why is it any different with LEDs

I changed the dimmer adjustment to fixed increments for higher accuracy instead of a bit of guesswork with the old continuous dimmer. I am now updating the PAR charts and manual to suit. I debated with myself over my gut instinct to raise higher for seedlings, tested with the new dimmer and I am now happy to recommend the same hanging height for all stages. Sorry for the confusion caused by me. Thanks, Shane

Exactly what I needed right now! I just started my first 2x4 setup and things are looking great, heading into week 4. I got me an ARAY 4 and it's the perfect fit for a 2x4. Good to know that my intuition was right when I increased the light intensity by 20% ~per week until now.
I have one question Shane: Can I disconnect one unit of my ARAY 4 from the driver, so that I'm using just half the lamp and therefore half the power, in seedling/early veg stage? If that's the case, then it's one of the best lights on the market if you live in an area with high energy costs (🇩🇪...)
Thank you so much for your work! Your charts and comparisons gave me the confidence to decide for a product and finally get my first homegrown tomatoes going!

Not quite on Topic, But I rang Lumatek and checked if it was OK to remove bars on my 600w Pro and they confirmed it was. saved me a lot of energy starting on one bar at 25% just need to to add a heated propagator for the first week with the lid on and then another week with the lid removed at 50%, before transplanting and adding another bar and turning the power up.

Thank you for the video. Exactly what i need right now. I need some expert help. I have one Lumatek 300w ATTIS led lamp that I use inside a 60/60/140cm tent for now (I also have one tent 100/100/200cm that I can't install due to space restrictions) My questions is: How should I use your research to apply to my case. The lamp fits inside the tent from side to side, the temp it's in range. Today the plants (autos) are 14 days above ground. Plants look healthy (12-13 cm). The lamp is on 20% @20 cm. Should I Increase the distance or should I keep the lamp on lower settings for longer time. Let's say 20% until week 3, 40% until week 5 or 6, 60% until week 7 or 8 and finish with 80%. Would that work? I don't have to much height to use and I prefer to keep the lamp closer to the canopy if that it's ok (max 30cm)

Since drivers are run more efficiently at full power and LED's are more efficient at lower power it seems that if efficacy iis a priority they should start adding more diodes to the lights. Or they could use smaller drivers. Seems like the drivers are a place for improvement. Maybe they could develop a variable driver that could actually be run at different outputs but somehow always working at max capacity.

If I run a 400 watt led light at 50%,the lower running temp will extend the lifespan of the LEDs themselves, but at the same time I'm causing my driver to run less efficient, according to what was just said here.
Does that mean I'm shortening the lifespan of my driver then?.

If we have similar PAR tests from two lights: same test area, approximately the same max and min readings across the area, similar standard deviations of all the readings, etc., how should we interpret the difference in hanging heights, which is significant in this case?
