  • Today I'm sharing how to use magazines as inspiration when you want to create and don't know what to use. Here's how I use the inspiration, paint it then take what I learned and create a new piece of art work in my own style. It is a great example of the Art of Practice.
    My online color mixing course Cultivated Color is available on Teachable kellyhoernig.t...

    I love the magazine idea. And I was thrilled when you applied what you learned to your own art. That process and your explaining it, is the best. Hope to see more of that. Thanks

    I am blown away by this eye opening experience. I’m not replicating someone who is teaching a project but I am learning the bits and pieces of the making of a project. Your work is too pretty to stay in your sketchbook! Ps I did my bear on my profile picture with procreate as a digital painting. Thank you Kelly

      It is all part of the process for me and I am thrilled to share what I learned and how I am using that knowledge to inform an original piece of art. So happy to hear you were inspired by that, thank you!

      They are so useful. I started collecting them this way in the 90's as a way to get inspired. Great name for them!

    Oh, and….your homemade sketchbook-love it. Do you show how you do that in a video? I’m very interested in trying that. I also love the old book covers you use. Nostalgic.

    • @kellyhoernig
      @kellyhoernig  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually bought this book from a couple that made handmade sketchbooks. They are no longer in business unfortunately. The vintage books covers is the reason I loved their sketchbooks.

    Hi Kelly! What a terrific video! I think I have all the Somerset Studio issues, etc. by Stampington & Co. It is so hard to part with them! I love the mixture of metals, vintage lace and vintage ledger paper (preferably with old handwriting written in french!) More of these Please! And do you have a class similar to this video?

    • @kellyhoernig
      @kellyhoernig  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much Kelli, I appreciate that! I do have a class called Painted Paper Layers which is about creating layers with paper ephemera. You can find the link in the description box.

    Wonderful tutorial on shadows. I've really been trying to work on my values and shadows to produce more depth. Thank you for the masking recommendation. I've not worked with it much because I found it so frustrating. I was wondering, does the tube become clogged easily and quickly?

    • @kellyhoernig
      @kellyhoernig  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have a specific shadow painting video where I show you how to create them with a flashlight then paint what you see on my channel that you might light. The tube clogging isn't too bad. I do store it upside down but not sure it makes a difference or not. When it does clog, I use a long hat pin to get into the tip which is extremely easy and fast.

    I was looking on your website for a way to email you. I cannot find an email address. I'd like to sign up for some of your classes, but there doesn't seem to be a way to contact you if I have a problem. When will the pears and leaves class be available? Thx

      In each of my classes there is an email to contact me directly with questions. All of my courses will reopen on October 1. Thank you for asking.
