Hi Kelly and greetings from Alaska 🙋🏻♀️ I am a brand new subscriber after watching your Watercolor Palette Update 2024 last night 😊 I’m also fairly new to watercolors and am enjoying watching your videos. I have this Kuretake Art Nouveau set, as well as the Kuretake Gansei Tambi 40 pan set and I love working with them. I’ve recently received another Japanese watercolor set by the brand, Kissho, a 20 pan set. I did a side-by-side comparison with the three brands a few days ago and they all work well together. You have to be daring and obviously good to use an accordion sketchbook! Every page counts towards creating this one massive art piece in the end but the end product is fascinating to look at. I can already see how yours is turning out beautifully...would love to see the finished sketchbook 😍😍

I’m new to your channel and feel like I’ve found gold! I watched your paint 5 minutes a day for 365 days in 2023 and you had me hooked. I’m trying to incorporate this concept into my life with different aspects of my health. You reminded me of a very essential and therapeutic practice of watercolor painting. I’ve set it aside the past couple of years and miss it greatly. 5 minutes isn’t a very long time and I can do just about anything for 5 minutes. I love art supplies and nature and detail however I tend to gravitate towards very loose painting in my own work. I love pen and ink, so I may try to mix all of this together in my own creative process. Thank you for inspiring me to begin again and incorporate this what I feel as essential practice into my own life. I may even start now even though it’s midway through February. I love how your art is so colorful yet muted. It's like a soft rainbow, not too loud but just the right amount of color. I am new to watercolor and seeing your art is giving me inspiration for how I want my art to be. And you are so great at intentionally using design elements to tie everything together in your sketchbook! If you ever need a video idea, I would love to see a tutorial on how you painted the glass vase that's on the left for most of the video. I've found that glass in general is so difficult to comprehend when painting or drawing, but you've done it beautifully here. This is the first video of yours I've seen and I am a new subscriber, so apologies if you already have a video like this!

I LOVE your work. It resonates with me. I love your leaves.........but y`know what....Id LOVE to see you do some landscape vignettes and I wonder, too, what part, if any, tonal value, and other conventions play in your work.
Thank you for watching and while nature interests me, landscapes do not. Funny that way but I don't really like to fill the entire page up with watercolor, I prefer white backgrounds on most of my items.

I love the idea of making the concertina sketchbook. Could I ask what size paper you used to create it? I love your work and colour choices, I’ve been looking at these paints but am certainly going to buy them now. Thank you.
I believe it was several sheets of 22x30" paper. I cut it in half longways then folded it to give me as many pages as I wanted. On the last fold there is a 1/2" overlap to connect to the next paper strip. There are all kinds of videos on making a concertina sketchbook on youtube, search for it and be amazed at the sizes and shapes.
I used a sheet of paper I had but it was all about the gameboard cover for me. I created the pages around the size I wanted the covers so the pages are approximately 6.5x10.5" . This is one of my favorite watercolors palettes because of the vintage feel of it and also the creamiest watercolors ever.

@@janc6495 yes they do, even when the artist doesn't qualify to earn money from them they are still a revenue source for the platform.

I recently bought the same art paint set. Very different from what I'm used to. Very good ideas you gave me, I really like the brush you used😊
It is very different and that's one of the things I like about it. The oval wash is a fantastic brush and inexpensive as well. Glad you were inspired and the ideas are flowing YEAH!
You keep saying that your color is so intense/bright. Looks so muted to me. I love cobalt/turquoise with pea green.
It is bright and intense for me. For comparison, my go to color is Buff Titanium.
How many pages is your journal?
This handmade sketchbook has 30 pages total including the front and back sides. Hope it inspires you to make one for yourself!
@@kellyhoernig I made one last night after watching your other video with you using the one you bought from Amazon. What kind of tape did you use to join the pages? I made mine out of Canson Mixed Media paper, so far it's 20 pages and I'm thinking of adding more. While I've been making handmade books for decades this is the first time I've made a concertina book this large, most have been in the 4 x 6 inch size range. Am enjoying your videos.
@@kbaxterpackwood I have an overlap of about a 1/2" where the sheets connect and I used scor-tape, a double sided adhesive. It is holding up wonderfully.

I LOVE that you chose a notebook to use with this palette! Everybody usually records one or 2 videos and then buy a new palette to try and that goes on and on… it’s so great to see you using the same (gorgeous palette) repeatedly! The colors are amazing !!
