They must've played this tune 1000 times together, but every performance still has so much passion behind it. The joy of jazz is on full display here 👌
I agree. It's the perfect mix of originality and style, while staying very true to the "Trad Jazz" tradition. He's got all the hip stuff in there, but it wouldn't sound out of place on a 1940s bandstand either.
@@elizabethfarrington5018 I mean it definitely would stand out for the record, probably either confuse the audience or knock their socks off. But it's true Pat really has deeply studied this music from it's conception to now and is very consciously able to appeal to both modern stuff and past eras simultaneously in a very sophisticated way.
I really appreciate the variety of textures that Emmet incorporates in his solos - it's never just left hand comping over a single melody line in the right hand.
Every once in a while in music there is a mystical chemistry that happens between performers and listeners. It is these moments that musicians hope for in every performance, but they don’t always come. It happens more often for great virtuosos such as these, but the audience has to click with everything too. Right from the onset of this tune, the players knew it, and the audience knew it-something special was about to happen. And then it did. And no one in the audience will ever forget that moment, this recording notwithstanding. And none of the wonderful musicians will ever foget that moment either, and they will treasure it always as a magical moment of their musical careers. Brava to all involved.
I refuse to believe there is a fog/haze machine on that stage and that these cats did not just vaporize all of the water around them with the heat coming out of their instruments
yesterday i had the pleasure of seeing Emmet at Birdland . I highly recommend taking advantage of any opportunity to see the remaining shows . what an outstanding performance! And with the legend Ron Carter !
This is Absolutely INCREDIBLE beyond my Imagination. And, it doesn't get any better than AFTER YOU'VE GONE. I just found out a couple of days ago that Genius Patrick🎷 is one of those rare humans blessed with Perfect Pitch. THANK YOU, EMMET, for this - and FOR ALL that you do to further great music.
The older cat made me think to myself during the exchange of solos at the end, to make sure you get your turn and don’t be afraid to encouraging others by pushing it within yourself and even if others aren’t seemingly pushing themselves you still must encourage the drive to move on ! Beautiful emmet
the previous recording of this at the new york jazz festival is basically my favorite jazz performance ever. I cannot explain the excitement felt upon seing this upload
I somehow have a magical relationship with this song and you fellas. The version with Bruce and Paddy is hands down the best thing I've ever heard... up there with Bach. Was just humming the Yasushi version and thinking, man I need a new set of this! I was turning to search maybe "after you've gone - guitar trio", and low and behold... A NEW AFTER YOU'VE GONE from the BOYZ notification!!!! LET'S GOOOOOOOOO"!!!!!
@@brunomiranda1161 I'm not really a musician let alone a jazz one. Was that a yell because of how cool it was, or was it like slight frustration that he missed the last note Patrick played?
oh man did he really just channel earl bostic with that altissimo at the end? it seems like every new performance of this tune by patrick becomes the best one!
3:25 people who haven't jammed live like this might not understand how truly absurd this moment is. how on earth were you both on the exact same wavelength for that with no communication?? damn jazz telepaths
Patrick is STILLLLL excited that she left
😂
every version of After you've gone by E3 must have this comment haha
The whole squad is happy she gone!!!😂
i don’t get it

That's the hallmark of EC3 - there's such joy, creativity and amazing chemistry 💖
We play this tune extremely rarely… once in a blue moon if the vibe is right 😂
I think I heard y’all play it on the jazz cruise. Each time is sweeter than the last.
@@EmmetCohenI had the distinct pleasure of hearing it in Roanoke Virginia with the one and only Bruce Harris
@@EmmetCohenI would pay so much to play it on stage you you guys and Pat (if I wasn’t a broke college student 😅)
I could listen to Mr. Bartley play standards every day. His harmonic conception, chops and rhythmic and melodic surrprises are a constant delight.
Genuinely my favorite phrasing in jazz today.

She's gone and the boys have gone wild! 🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏
Crowd is totally vibing out, love it :)
I love seeing that enthusiasm in a jazz audience. Make it more fun and less classical
Yeah, there's a definitely reason this is the song Pat went viral with, he really sounds good on this tune.
For me, it will always be "Gusty Garden Galaxy."
Patrick has that Cannonball instant swing. His first solo note swings!
NEW AFTER YOU’VE GONE LESSGOOOO
This standard belongs now officially to these guys

This is what passionate musicians do with a tune that's been played countless times over the decades. It's all "New" again. I love every minute of it.
i love the different lighting cues, and the purple to reference the original lights in the video. i'll definitely be transcribing pat's solo.
oh i’d love to get access to your transcription if possible!!! 🥰🥰
Fighting for my life to transcribe it right now I’m a trumpet player and my brain is melting trying to play across my whole range 😂
