@@J3unG I agree with you 100% a thousand times over! In the jazz scene, there's a tendency to overrate someone once they've gained recognition, but your objective perspective and insight are exactly what's needed.
Just in case you somehow see this message Pat, I want you to know you got fans all the way down here in Adelaide South Australia. Everyone at my jazz course here adores your work, I love how beautifully melodic and distinct your style is, while also being virtuosic. In my opinion you're up there with the greats, like Coltrane, Parker, etc. I just love hearing you play dude, especially how you merge jazz and video game music as well (I LOVE the version you did of Mauville city, and the accordion guy in that band was cookin so hard in it I actually went and got myself an accordion and am tryna learn it as well as piano). Keep it up!!
Also from adelaide, very funny to scroll down and see this comment because I was just wondering whether Pat is planning to come down here any time. Would definitely love to see him live.
From beginning to end, wow. This is what I love to see. The collaboration, excellent solos from everyone and on one of the most feared tunes of all time. I’ll be listening to this repeatedly!
No one has energy like Pat and his groups. His trio blew my mind in Austin. This just blew my mind, and I heard it from a couple thousand miles away. KICKASS.
Hi Patrick, I really like this Version. It honors the legacy on one side and at the same time you all add original burning solos. Perfect understanding within your quartet is also nice to see and hear.
Great ❤ Have just finished listening to a short, original performance of "Giant Steps" by Caleb Arredondo, a young, multi-talented phenom of extraordinary imagination and creative insight. I wanted Caleb to extend his altophonic monolog of "Giant Steps"; you will perhaps, too, after listening to him 🎶
The fact that we get to hear these 4 super talented musicians play (especially that guy with the trombone lookin thing!! he was killing it) for free on youtube just blows my mind!! Thank you for sharing your awesome sound with us!!
How did you find that band?!! Those cats are brilliant. Good stuff. Inspiring! Thank you. P.S...exiting the stage during the piano solo was a class act move bro.
From what I can hear without transcribing it, it sounds similar to a symmetric pattern Coltrane does over the diminished scale, on blue train I believe. It's just using different notes but the same pattern that you hear commonly quoted. Either way, it's a killer lick.
Major triads in major thirds with a chromatic approach tone above. Can also analyse it as ‘augmented scale’ pattern but probably easier to think of as just the triads.
Fuckin' kid on piano sounds good. He figured out the 2-5-1s on most of the tune. He did it proper. Nice. One thing though...why the fk do people play it like they're hanging on a train that's about to go off the rails? But then again, all the Japanese players play that way these days, no?
Another video to watch 200 times.
😂🙏🏾
Haha, exactly!
facctssss banger !!!
Only?
Might as well transcribe.
Remember if it says live in Tokyo, you’re in for an insane listening experience
This might be one of the most cohesive, patient, and melodic versions of Giant Steps I’ve ever heard.
Yup!
Nah. Same as always. Too fast and square. There's a certain you're 'supposed to play it' and this is one of them.

@@J3unG Even Bill Evans and Charlie Parker definitely have plenty of terrible recordings, but no one ever points it out, lol.

Thank you! I need to get down to Australia before I leave this side of the world... gotta make it happen!
@@PatrickBartleyMusic That'd be awesome. Is there anywhere we can keep an eye on for an announcement if that ends up going ahead? (come visit Sydney!)
Also from adelaide, very funny to scroll down and see this comment because I was just wondering whether Pat is planning to come down here any time. Would definitely love to see him live.
lol Adelaide here too. Emile Ryjoch is a really good saxophonist around these parts.
@@PatrickBartleyMusic Please don't forget your Sydney fans either (and maybe drop in to see The Consouls st the same time)

Stellar performance from the great virtuoso players of our time.
Great big sound killer tone.
Liquid fire from Heaven.

Everyone in the band is absolutely MURDERING it 🔥🔥🔥 So good!!
Killing dude!!!!!!!!!! The opening statement of your solo is profound - letting notes hang, making real musical statements. Yes sir!

Everything Patrick touches is classic.
It's all memes and games until you hear an amazing rendition like this! Wow!
The last person I've seen cook this hard was Walter White

What's the lick at 3:39? Can't put a name on it...

Blues and the Abstract Truth/Oliver Nelson is a deep well of inspiration.
I hate giant steps! The harmony is just not my thing. Guess I only like small steps XD
But I listened cause its Pat who once again smashed it 😅
medio corte compañero me dejai'chascón
Ogchamp
Is that an Alto sax with a tenor neck ?
Or this guy must be a giant 😃😃😃
Tenor looks like alto on him
Great playing though
I hear glimmers of Kenny G in his playing [that's Kenny Garrett, not the other fake one].
This is legal to play like that? Coltrane would be happy to hear it!
amazing performance as always. will the sitdown livestreams ever be making a return?
More like a little step for Pat.
Good version however giant steps always just sounds like a racket to me. Too many changes
Perhaps you hear it as 'Falling down the steps'
Skill issue, your ear just isn’t at that level yet
音使いにあんま魅力を感じないwww
