Dr. Ed - We need more people like you in the world. Thank you for providing this valuable information for the benefit of those of us transitioning to retirement. I love your vision of helping us on your channel to provide information to others.
I’m 12 years younger than my husband. He worked until 70 and earned 32% more in his check by doing so. He also worked longer because he wanted to be sure my survivors benefits were adequate. I will start my benefits at 62 and will invest them.
I tried this and applied at age 62. I’m still working and was going to pack away what little I was going to get into our Roths. Then, Social Security sent a letter outlining that they were taking most of what I would receive and apply it to taxes!!!! I withdrew my application and will wait until I’m 66or 67 to reapply.
YES! I am able to bounce around, enjoy the beach, hiking, meeting ppl since I retired at 62 and moved to thailand . 70 is too old. I cared for 2 elders who just sat at home until death. Not happening.

Hi, are you going to ask for retroactive payments from your date you turn 62(July 62)? If so, I believe you could ask a 6 month time frame?😊Ask the expert.

I am 62 and not jumping off the retirement cliff just yet. My agency is still following the modified work schedule after COVID, and I work from home 4 days out of the week. I keep my salary and benefits. I am in a job where I am having fun and that paid for me to take college courses which will help me with skills for what I want to do after I retire. God willing, at 70! I make much more money more comfortably like this, so these "retire early or else you die" advice is not for everyone
Thank you for mentioning the delay of SS is a 8% return. That helps me analyze take and invest or wait. My 401 is getting 9% but I’m considering the SS increase as a hedge against a protracted bear market.
So great you helping all that need it. Thank you. I was married for 34 years just started working again a year ago at age 60 almost 61. I worked for my Dad when I was 16 till about 21. I knew I didn't have enough work credits at that time. Not sure how many I have now. My Ex lives in Thailand now he married a Thai girl. Can I still collect his Social Security , He is younger at 58 now.
Thank you for providing SS and Medicare info! I had to file for disability about age 60 so I know what you said is totally accurate! My only disappointment is that I can only draw from my ex-husband’s SS if he makes twice as much as me. It should be only half 125% so that wives who stayed home with my young children and saw no benefit from his SS for being a housewife for about 8 years while caring for the children.

This is a big factor in deciding if you are filing SS retirement at age 62 specially if you have medical issues. Please give your advise when you discuss of filing at 62. This my case. Thank you

Dr Weir, can you pls refer me to your videos regarding being an expat signing up for Medicare at 65. Don’t want to pay more by signing up late, want to pay the least amount for now. Hello my reason for early retirement is i have a sick mom want to slend more time with her, i dont have a 401 or pension really no bills. I will need the money just to survive with my parttime work i dont have to worry about going over the limit. .
I enjoyed listening and watching your very informative videos, I’m hoping for the news regarding the WEP as I had work for the county for 32 years and also had a second job and paid in for Social Security…

I turn 62 in August,I’m trying to figure out what age I should collect and still work.I should go down to social security and inquire what my benefits will be on a monthly basis.I was suggested by a few people to wait until my full retirement age. Bill S.597 - Social Security Fairness Act is going to do away with Windfall Elimination Provision. I hope it happens as soon as possible. I worked many years paying SS taxes and according to WEP most of those years are considered to be not 'substantial' and therefore not eligible to receive my Social security. Those rules apply to me because I also worked a 2nd job with pension benefits. It is not fair and hopefully Bill S.597 will restore fairness. Thank you.
I read Jan 2025 it starts. Payments will start then or soon after and will go back to Jan 2024. They expect a year to get the back pay added to higher new SS amount and done by 2026 at most.
I am 64 1/2. Work at USPS as rural carrier. I only have been full-time for 5 1/2 years. Thinkinking i can never retire. Tiny 401K and 12,000 actual retirement with them. It's a rule is why. Best explanation I know of is that SS was meant to be started after you stop working. Of course, things are so different now than when the rule was made.
Is the income limit based on AGI? If I am 62 and claim Social Security at make over $23,400 (for 2025) but put the rest in a 401k or HSA will that hurt my payment since I plan on keeping the AGI below the $23.400?
I'm 54 ...and single. I wish I can take social security now while I work so it can help me financially, but I know it wouldn't be a good decision if it was possible 😂
I started ss at 65+3mo.(Jan.2022) My wife is was 62. Coùld she have collected half of my amount then? Her income is such that at full retirement age 67+10mo., her benifit amount will be almost the same amount as half of mine from her income. Did we lose out on the 3yr she could of had? Actually the major issue is Medicare at 65. Retired at 62 will not qualify for Medicare yet so the health insurance will be a real headache.
That's only for the people that can afford health insurance now....
