Im glad youre reacting. This group is such a breathe of fresh air. Very talented, different, yet nostalgic. Yes...their ages are a bit too young for most peoples taste but the music and performances speaks for itself without people saying or doing the most. As for the person running the show and her "scandal"...honestly...its all alleged. Shes not necessarily in trouble for anything (plus this has nothing to do with the girls or the group) and most of the accusations are simply rumors. People are just being extra without knowing actual facts and running with it. Glad you clarified, respected, and did what you wanted to do.

I think one of the reasons NewJeans is getting so popular is because they feel relatable. A lot of Kpop has the artists looking like an 11/10 by dressing them in increasingly extravagant outfits, putting them in crazy scenes in the MV's and what not. But with NewJeans, they are dressed in relatively regular clothes (although a bit oldschool). They are in settings like the beach, a small town concert, or a house party. I think they are being marketed as very relatable and approachable, while also playing into their cute look, their incredible vocal talents, great dancing, and a style of music which you don't hear a ton of from the mainstream groups. All of this put together is a recipe for success for NewJeans.
I'm excited to see what they bring next ^_^

Also there are some boygroups for example Enhypen which debuted in 2020, the maknae Ni-ki is 2005-er & the only one legal age member was Heeseung at that time. In korea, a lot of CD-player generation already knew what the lyrics meant. Baking is 굽다 in Korean. We can use this verb to bake a cookie, but during the cd generation we also used to “bake” CD with music so that we can carry around and listen on our cd player.
I can say it is a little similar how we used to say “burn” a CD which obviously doesn’t mean actually setting it on fire.
In the music video a huge cookie first appears in the background. And in the end of the video a huge CD appears in a similar manner. There are several other graphics throughout the video with CD and cookies.
I guess the post-production team tried to convey the message they best could.
Anyways according to their agency’s explanation this song it about NewJeans’ many more songs to come that they wish to share to the listeners and fans.
Again, the lyrics could have had other hidden innuendos but as a CD generation myself i thought the cookie idea was very cute 😊

She gave birth with fx Pink Tape, Red Light and 4 Walls and RedVelvet's Ice Cream Cake, The Red and The Perfect Velvet. all of these albums has a Nostalgic feel. A good example of why this is not that big of a deal is kidz bop. Kidz bop takes pop songs (even suggestive ones) and rewrites them and has them performed by kids for kids.

However given the officially explained cultural and semantic nuance at play, going into permanent cancel mode seems a bit knee-jerk. This has likely given the industry a reminder about being more considerate in such matters going forward, which could be considered a plus. I just hope the girls and their careers aren't impacted by this in too much of a negative way.

Some people seem to forget or not realize that most kpop idols start their careers at a very young age. Most idols that debuted at 17+ years of age trained for years prior to their debut. It's not unheard of, or even rare, that some idols start officially training at a company at age 10 to 12. Some start even earlier. Then we can get into how training is just as demanding and stressful as performing, if not more so.
And this doesn't take into account the training they get at vocal and dance academies before they even audition for a company. Very rarely is anyone chosen by a company for idol training "off the street", with no prior dance and or vocal training.
So, if you honestly and seriously have a problem with minors being kpop idols you really need to just give up on kpop in general because the vast majority of them start at a very young age.
With that being said, naturally age needs to be taken into account when we're talking about younger idols. They do require some 'special handling' from the companies, mostly in the form of keeping things age appropriate, ensuring that they don't neglect their education and so on.
As for the whole Cookie controversy, I think it's ridiculous. Another thing people seem to forget, or just don't understand, is the primary market for kpop, aka Korean pop, is Korea. As a result, people need to look at things from a Korean point of view. Yes, gaining popularity in the west is huge benefit, but the vast majority of kpop groups will cater, first and foremost, to their Korean audience. That's where the real money comes from.
This entire scandal, which is based solely on a western (mostly US) interpretation of the lyrics is, as I said above, just ridiculous. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

I totally agree on your disclaimer. People have been on both sides here. For example, Garam, we just have to wait for it all to clear fully, instead of pouncing on assumptions. Some people also say about age. I get it, I too am born the same year as Haerin. But, it was only a 1 year age difference of debut if you compare the maknae of NwJns and Jungkook. JK debuted at 15, and so did Tzuyu if I am not wrong, so I know it’s kind of young, but the I’ve is also very young. So with that. We just honestly need to suck it up since we can’t control the agency. They are young, but they freaking slay! 100+ calls from companies asking them to advertise their products, variety shows talking about them, even though they haven’t even went to one. Our favs talking about them. Placed 12th on Billboard World Albums of the week October 15 2022, which btw, “The Album” BP was 13th place. Their success is no joke, their potential is also no joke. Other than that, a very rounded group at that, despite the age. The “scandal” too, I mean, she isn’t in trouble, just speculations, and speculations aren’t the truth so we just wait for that honesty. Also, the company has stated with the “Cookie” incident where it was just a cultural misunderstanding of the meaning. You can search it up

Hybe recently released a statement that slapped back hard on the critics regarding the controversy. Those critics that stirred up controversy for views are harming the members, not protecting them. The members even made a video to explain what the "Cookie" lyrics meant for them. Instead of accepting the members and company's legitimate explanation, we have haters that keep insisting on the innuendos, pushing false narratives, and putting dirty words in their mouths are disgusting. "Attention," "Hype Boy," and "Cookie" ranked number 1, 2, and 10 respectively in the recent music chart. So obviously, the Korean public does not have a problem with them. Yet some Western audience insists that the world must know of American slang. Heck, I live in the US and I didn't even know there was a slang meaning for cookies. The members display tremendous talents already and I will root for their success.

There are still so many people having problems with the lyrics of Cookie, even after the long and logical explanation by Hybe. If you are unable to comprehend that some countries don’t have the same nuances and slang as English (because it’s different language and culture, duh), you’re just one of those “the world revolves around my country” people.
I am not from an English speaking country, English is my 3rd language. I’ve been studying it since I was 4 yo. Later in high school I started doing English tutoring for middle school kids, recently I have even gained a TEFL (level 5) certificate, so I can teach English oberseas. I have lived in England for 8 months. I consume my media mostly in English. And still I HAD NO IDEA THE LYRICS COULD BE INTERPRETED AS SUGGESTIVE!!!
“You just need to learn more, I guess” could be somewhat a legitimate response to me…… if the lyrics were all in English. Like, seriously, the lyrics are mostly in Korean, but English speakers have problems with them because of a nuance meening of the word “cookie” in ENGLISH, NOT THE LANGUAGE THE SONG IS EVEN WRITTEN IN?!
Get out of here. The only people having problem with the song os that type of western audience, showing that the lyrics are perfectly normal in Korea. There is no sexual undertone / nuance to it.
It’s like Karaoke for example - for English speakers it’s just that, a room where you sing. For others it can be taken in a suggestive / sexual manner, because karaokes are often used by prostitutes in Japan and Korea.

"Everything we have presented to you so far has come from a place of deep sincerity. No one’s perfect, but ADOR’s goal is to be friendly, open, and straightforward with our fans, and we’re actively working toward that end."

@@capucines3352 Yes. It would be better for them to just proclaim that they didn't know it would be intepreted this way and that they would be more cautious in the future but they give this longwinded bs about consulting professors (really?) and taffy the f**ing dog.
