  • Andrea Pirlo is perhaps the greatest true Regista that has ever played the game; Sergio Busquets is perhaps the most complete all-round defensive midfielder. Different players, different qualities, but both among the greatest footballers that have ever played the game.

    All those people saying that Pirlo is greater than Busquets or he is worse are completely missing the point of the video. Busquets was one of the greatest ever deeper screeners and line breaking passers. The way he would think both offensively and defensively at the same time and position himself in such a way that he was always only a few metres away if the team lost the ball. Pirlo was unbelievable in his ball playing and his creative abilities were phenomenal. They were two completely different players despite playing in the same position. They aren't comparable because how different the two are. It would be like comparing einstein and Newton . Two equally legendary figures in the history of science

      I see your point, but sports are sports and all of us need to see these things pragmatically. if you told Busquets he was going to play Pirlo's role in Milan and Juventus, he would've been able to pull it off. He wouldn't have been as glorious as Pirlo, but he would've done the job just right at an elite level.
      You couldn't have told Pirlo to do Busquets' job at Barcelona. He wouldn't have been able to pull it off. Sergio Busquets is truly one of the best midfielders in the last 10 years, if not the very best.

    Excellent video. One note I would add however is Busquets high press. He’ll often move to within 10 yards of the opposition 20 yard box when Barca have the ball to quickly stamp out any potential counter attacks once they lose possession. His ability to read the game in moments such as these is unrivaled. He’s not as stylish as Pirlo. You won’t see as many Hollywood passes or certainly no physics defying free kicks but for me he’s the superior player. Best midfielder in world football bar none.

      Absolutely different approaches to the role. Pirlo was no strange to covering, but Busquets was no way in Pirlo's league in organizing, tempo-setting, creativity and long range shooting.

    • @brynknight2745
      @brynknight2745 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kanté is completely different to Jorginho, Pirlo and Busquets and fielding him as a deep-lying playmaker would be a dreadful waste of his greatest asset. What Kanté truly excels at is defending large areas of space, thanks to his exceptional defensive awareness, tackling ability, speed and stamina. The greater the area of the pitch you task Kanté with covering defensively, the more he shines. This is why he is more effective in a midfield two - either Leicester's 4-4-2 or Conte's 3-4-3 - rather than in a midfield three like Sarri's 4-3-3 or Conte's 3-5-2. However, reverting to a midfield two wouldn't suit Jorginho at all, he is in his perfect role as the regista in a midfield three. Kanté is far too good to drop and you couldn't really say that pushing him further forward has failed, but his new position, coupled with the huge increase in possession Chelsea keep, does restrict his primary attribute.

      Like this video explained two different players. Pirlo can look flashy for a CDM when he pings those beautiful long balls with accuracy which overrides the opponent's midfield, alongwith his other magnificent abilities. If you watch a Barca/Spain match over this decade you will realize that Busquets is not flashy but when he is at his peak the team will not loose the possession battle even to the likes of Pirlo's midfiled. So they outclass each other in different aspects of the game.

    Pirlo Is one of the most overrated players of his generation, I think it's the fact he 'looks the part' makes people believe he's a great. 8 assists in 193 Milan games is one of his most damming stats. Google Pirlo overrated there's an interesting post on Quora that underlines why he wasn't the amazing player you may have thought. Facts don't care about your feelings his stats aren't that of world class player. Get triggered Pirlo fanboys gogogo!

      I gave reasons and sources to why, you are a fanboy that is hurt that someone would say that about your beloved Pirlo. 'You know nothing about football' - What do you know about what I know? Say something meaningless instead of making a valid point. Like I said facts/stats don't care about your feelings, there may be a reason my comment has thumbs ups, maybe because I actually made a point based on facts. Something you would do well to do yourself.

      @@CrippledFapper Pirlo has 8 assists in 193 Serie A games for Milan that is a fact, you calling it 'bullshit' -again is meaningless. His pass out-put and completion (which he is applauded for) is no greater than the likes of Arteta for example, yet you don't have people noting Arteta (who has a lot more assist and goals to his name by a distance) as world class. Pirlo was a great passer of a ball, although mainly uncreative ball retention, he could pick out a nice-on-the-eye curved pass to the wing. But Pirlo was never amongst the elite in football stat-wise at any point in his career. I have a lot more points that I could add to this as I've looked into this probably more deeply than I should really care to. My opinion on Pirlo being overrated (he is clearly rated highly by many such as yourself) Is based on facts and stats and I feel is fully justified. Disagree If you must but my points made are valid.
      Also- sources aren't of much importance so long as there are correct researchable facts provided within them.

    I like this analysis bc I love how both these players operate brilliantly but not spectacularly (showy) in this position. I’d love to see you do a video about Ngolo Kante at Leicester vs Ngolo Kante at Chelsea. Kante is used more defensively than as creative playmaker, but I think Chelsea uses him too high, wasting some of his strengths. He’s another player (for Leicester winning season at least) where you watch the game you don’t see him but you watch him you see the shape of the game. Less true at Chelsea. Why? (Too high I think, but would welcome a longer more expert take.)
    The 6 is unglamorous. Even more than great big center backs, really. But with a good one steering, you get to see everybody else’s strengths shine more.

    Definitely a fan o Busquets, Pirlo and Tifo...
    When watching Barça’s games sometimes I like to pause whenever Busquets gets the ball, after evaluating which would be the best pass for him to make a resume the game and almost always Busquets makes that pass, truly impressive.

    As they both share the same position, Busquests is more defensive player with line breaking passes and also more than that defensive work. But Pirlo was more into attacking than defensive. His creativity was phenomenal. And he was also a good free kick taker.
    As they played the same position there roles were bit different. So comparing both of them are exceptional….
