What people don't realise is that while many clubs do the rondo, they do it with a lot of flicks tricks and such without focusing on the body position, the anticipation and the tactical side of it. The reason that peps teams are miles ahead any other side is because pep, Cruyff and even van gaal at ajax and Bayern focus on that and use it to its fullest so the play is better and it improves players tactically. It isn't used as a basic warm up drill but as a proper means of developing the basics of positional play(Cruyff, guardiola, Michael laudrup, van gaal, Michels, Quique setien, etc.'s philosophy)
vybhav badri tell me about it. All these idiots on here saying “everyone does the rondo!” Or “peps a fraud” have completely missed the whole point of this video which is to show how pep prepares his players technically and tactically through attention to detail. IMO they were waiting impatiently for city’s first slip up before they could start trolling.

Great video. When I coached a youth travel team, I implemented the Rondo and variations of it in my practices. I did a lot of reading in books that showed different types of Rondo's. One of them was 3 grids [ 1 [2] 3 ] In all 3 grids, 1, 2, and 3 you would have 5 players each. Grid 2 is smaller then the other two. Let's say grid 1 starts with the ball, as soon as they start, 2 players from grid number 2 would go into grid number 1 and apply pressure trying to win the ball back as soon as possible. Meanwhile the 3 other defenders in grid 2 cannot move out of their grid, but they are looking to cut the passing lanes as the team in grid 1 are also trying to play passes through grid 2 to the other side to the players in grid 3. When the ball is played into grid 3, the two defenders go back into grid 2 to shut down the passing lanes as two other defenders go into grid 3 and try to win the ball back. If the defenders get control of the ball or are able to knock the ball out of the grid, the team that was responsible for losing the ball, then takes place of the defending teams role as the previous defenders now fall into the grid of the team that lost the ball. It has to be fast as play needs to keep going. I did this drill quite a lot as I wanted to focus on possession of the ball, getting them accustomed to passing under pressure and their first touch had to be right in tight spaces. As time went on with this drill, I saw very good improvements with my players. They were about 12 years of age and as time went on, I saw them piece wonderful passes together between one another in the same grid, to splitting the defenders and getting the ball to the other grid. Of course I always did the original Rondo with 8 players in a circle and 2 defenders in the middle. At a young age it's important to show them what to do as you don't want both defenders trying to apply pressure to the same player but have them understand that as 1 player is going to apply pressure, the other defender is looking to cut down passing lanes and read where the ball may go next and intercept it. The kids always liked playing rondo and no one wanted to be in the middle so they did not slack off as they were trying to get back to the outside lol.
Oh man in my old club we did this drills every bloody session and I can tell you it improved me as a center back back then in my playing iq and we as a team were so dominating in the league , great exercise

Great video. But you should have spoken about the other drills he uses as well. I've read pep confidential and pep Guardiola the evolution and there is a huge emphasis on the third man combination, the 7v7 and the 10v10. The rondo is obviously massive but the these drills were crucial to help the Bayern players and man city players now understand and implement positional play

Watching these videos make me realize how my club coaches took after his style of coaching. We did these all the time, and all the possession drills we’ve done are very similar to his. Our style of play is similar too, we played teams that relied on speed and long balls whilr we played more technically and passed around teams while keeping a high press.
Thanks for the upload. In my opinion, I think the aim of the video is not about the Rondo as a drill. It's about the education and philosophy of the training. Pep educates the players to see the VALUE of what they are doing and then incorporates this philosophy into everything they do. Everything they do in training is for progression and consequently improvement on the pitch. As a coach in my past life, I can tell you that players don't like repetition - they get bored, especially when they have to do it every training session. Pep has taught them that this drill IS the training and not a pre-cursor. The key to it all though is - if the players go with it, they have to see improvements themselves - otherwise the trust is gone in the drill and the coach. Thanks for the video - would like anything on the man management of players by these top coaches if you have any? Many thanks

Lol I watched the training session for United & Barcelona at 2011 CL final the day before the match, Barce trained 1st for 1 hour then United. United played mini match Barcelona played rondo over and over, Messi and Alves were mesmerising and I knew United were out of their depth. I knew that before but I saw both teams up close right in front of me and saw their methods and technical quality and when the match started United pressed, Barcelona stayed calm and settled into the game and then started their rondo drills lol Even to this day ex-United players talk about how good that team was lol
Do a Klopp edition! Robertson, Trent, Gomez, Van Dijk, Salah, Wijnaldum, Milner, Chamberlain, Firmino! All these players seem to have become world-class under Klopp. It's like this video idea was made for the man.
I am strongly agree that you can do everything with rondo except shooting. I don't apply any technical training in my session. Rondo is enough to teach any techniques. Thanks Cruyff
He is the best in the world for a reason. Cry all you want about the quality of his teams, the money, etc. Pep has evolved each and every side he has coached, and dominated the world of football. The real special one! 🐐
Football and basketball are very similar specially when it comes to pass and move, Bulls triangle is also used in football, triangles are fundamental to football.
My son played in a Barcelona youth Acadamy and their training sessions were always just variations of rondo. We thought it was getting a bit boring until they started playing other academies and destroying them 😀
As a coach I do the rondo as well but the play on the left of the one who messes up in promote team and making sure players can depend/trust their teammates
I didnt know what it was called before, but I thought this was a common training routine? I've seen Chelsea players do it in their training videos. Is Pep's version much different?
@@DePeaceHunter they did stress how seriously and competitively Guardia takes it. Compare it to the Man U training video leaked at the start of the season where the players couldn't / wouldn't take it seriously or control it or take only a single touch.
pressing + predict what opponent behind you might do, its very difficult situation, not all team can do training like this 100%, not even liverpool at least 90-97% is enough
OMG, This so called "Rondo" is played in training regularly in Croatia even at amateur level and I play this since i was a litle kid. We call that drill Ševa (Sheva).
I was a guest of Franc Artiga at La Masia. Where ever I turned my eyes it was like a photo copy. Even the Women's team trained the same. They always start with a Rondos or a passing drill with movements, followed by a possession game. The Rondos is taken very seriously and there is special attention to technique, attitude, insight and speed of play. It's all down to repetitions, repetitions repetitions and repetitions. But you must believe otherwise don't look at Rondos. It worked for me in all my teams and it even worked for me at international level. Going at La Masia confirmed that this methodology works perfectly but it will not work perfectly for you if you don't believe. Try your own stuff, it may be better then that of Cruyff and Guardiola.
you can literally compare a 5 pts difference with a 25 pts difference as it's literally the same fucking measure unit you dumb idiot. the only reason you can't compare this as of yet is because the season is only midway.
Dear City fans if u exist I apologize for ever claiming Mourinho is a better coach than Guardiola because that is clearly false. Mourinho is last coach of the old era while Pep is the oldest coach of the modern era.
@Bluemoon_Jo his only tactic against a decent opponent has been parking the bus. He is no genius. The key of his success and what he does best is motivation of his players. He convinces them the world is against them and works well for the first 2 seasons. After the 3rd the players no longer buy that shit and the whole thing collapse and Mourinho gets exposed in a tactical level.
@Bluemoon_Jo you are a city fan?for how long tho did you even exist before when they were playing at league 2😂😂😂😂can guardiola win champions league with porto?
Bluemoon_Jo your team is overrated, been shit on now two games in a row. Can't do shit without your midfielders. They'll leave at the end of the season when LFC win the league and you fuck up CL again.
Pep is a brilliant manager, however, I believe it's his player recruitment that makes him so good. No other manager can find a player so suited to his style which then not only improves the player but makes his philosophy so much better.
We used to play this when there where few players to play football or when we used to wait for other guys can't believe pep uses it as a serious drill, but that's the beauty of the game simple things like rondo improves the player
Why does every rival fan try to discredit Pep with the excuse that he just buys best players? Van Dijk, Allisson, Lukaku, Pogba, Kepa, Morata are all players who are more expensive than anyone that Pep has ever bought in his whole career
What people don't realise is that while many clubs do the rondo, they do it with a lot of flicks tricks and such without focusing on the body position, the anticipation and the tactical side of it. the fact he pays homage to cruyff consistently is the definition of football 'eritage
I’d like to see the training with my own eyes. If I had the chance, I’d fly a rondo world.
The producer of this video is awesome.
Mikel Arteta appointment for Arsenal brought me here. Rondo 🔥🔥🔥
He is the best in the world for a reason. Cry all you want about the quality of his teams, the money, etc. Pep has evolved each and every side he has coached, and dominated the world of football. The real special one! 🐐
Move the ball, move bodies. simple concept I learned playing basketball. The San Antonio Spurs under Popovich do the same thing
Football and basketball are very similar specially when it comes to pass and move, Bulls triangle is also used in football, triangles are fundamental to football.
Klopp does these rondos too, espicially the 4v4+3, you can see them in the liverpool training vids
Love the video maybe make a video on Peps closest rival (Klopp) maybe evolution of klopps tactics at Liverpool?
Love the commercial AT THE END, didn't feel like I was getting badgered.
1:02 fastest "well..." in history
My son played in a Barcelona youth Acadamy and their training sessions were always just variations of rondo. We thought it was getting a bit boring until they started playing other academies and destroying them 😀
Love this video on one of my favorite coaches
Was nice to put a face to the voice. Wonderful Video as always
Thanks Shaul! - Joe
In urdu we call it "beech ki bili"
"Cat in Middle"
In Greece we call it "κορόιδο" "sucker"
In Jamaica we call it man in the middle
It's so funny to me that each culture/country has a different thing that's "in the middle." In America it's a monkey
In India too
As a coach I do the rondo as well but the play on the left of the one who messes up in promote team and making sure players can depend/trust their teammates
I didnt know what it was called before, but I thought this was a common training routine? I've seen Chelsea players do it in their training videos. Is Pep's version much different?
I thought so too. Definitely have seen many teams doing this. Probably different combination or something, Tifo should have explained that
@@DePeaceHunter they did stress how seriously and competitively Guardia takes it.
U have seen chelsea do it too cuz sarri uses the same drill
This worked wonders against Palace. Oh wait
i still remember Manure get raped 4-0 by Dele Alli former club (MK Dons) which is playing 2 division below. embarrassing moment. LOL
It worked against Chelsea tho, UTD should also have an idea about how it feels to concede 6 goals to City.
This is something that I never really notice, but you've got a great voice and delivery for videos
Please do a video on Leeds united under Marcelo bielsa
This is what we need.
sahi ho mitra.....
I want to see the rise of Leeds.
Leeds fan from Nepal. Not many will get it but none of them matters.
Really like your channel! This is a great video with good explanations. The benefits of Rondos are many.
In Colombia it is called "bobito" (Little stupid person) in reference to the people in the middle.
In Mexico they called it el pendejo drill bro
In Argentina it's "el loco"
In Croatia we call it "ševa", which means "fuck" 😁
We call Ayam (Chicken.) Also a reference to the people in the middle.
Great video....Can u try to explain the responsibilities of the pivot players (fernandinho/delph)?
I love your videos. The flag you of catalonia is not that one😉...its the senyera..✌
Yes, that’s the pro-independence flag, but since Pep is pro-independence, it’s quite accurate.
Great job of breaking it down the way you did.
I know the answer (poorly) *after dropping to the 3rd place*
Last season Liverpool 75 ponts, Manchester City 100 points.
Still gonna win the title
@@jeremytello3800 I don't see y Liverpool popped in here though. Since its popped up, I can't see who's first in the pl this season.
@@silentinferno2382 You can't compare a 5 points difference and a 25 points difference.
you can literally compare a 5 pts difference with a 25 pts difference as it's literally the same fucking measure unit you dumb idiot. the only reason you can't compare this as of yet is because the season is only midway.
You have a radio voice mate! Really amazing stuff and great, informative video
Come on, every club in the world makes rondos.
Exactly
@@goyonman9655 but pep's are very strict compared to other teams
they make casual rondos, theres a doffrence making rondos 80% of ur training with intense focus and joking rondos lol
Real Madrid Rondo look like a joke. I've seen so many vids of them just trying to msg people or do tricks
Watched this a lot of times, great video. I think more like these would be great
This made me love Johan even more
Tifo always makes quality stuff like this. Keep it up, you're doing great!
This is the same as Maurizio Sarri"s Tactics
my former coach used to always begin training with like 30 minutes of rondo, i always loved it
Dear City fans if u exist
I apologize for ever claiming Mourinho is a better coach than Guardiola because that is clearly false. Mourinho is last coach of the old era while Pep is the oldest coach of the modern era.
Mourinho is not coach he is manager there is difference between coach n manager.
Jose is master in tactics
Not sure what oldest coach of the modern era is supposed to mean but glad you’ve accepted the obvious.
Wonderful video, it explains exactly how Guardiola’s rondos work.
Pep is a brilliant manager, however, I believe it's his player recruitment that makes him so good. No other manager can find a player so suited to his style which then not only improves the player but makes his philosophy so much better.
Lol at ‘recruiting’. You mean spending record amounts of money, and still failing to win the Champions league.
@@BigBoss7777777 he buys lot of players but none of them are too costly (except grealish)
Liverpool net spending 300m..
I have seen something similar being used by Klopp at Liverpool too.
How to make video like tifo football?
watchinOver ! Impossible
@Bluemoon_Jo done, what is the next step now, which illustration software to use?
Glad to finally put a face to the voice amazing work.
