    I do this for a profession and seeing how he was using that scraper to cut the urethane made me gasp!. The technician made more damage than the primer will fix, ultimately the scratches that he made will rust and spread out underneath the urethane bead resulting in a leaking or even worse a loose windshield. BTB has a special tool for these kinds of trimming with bent up ends that don't mess up the bodywork.

    I don’t like how proffesional they try to appear for the customers/higher ups. Once you know how to do something there are safe ways to do the job easier. Kind of sucks that they have to do extra just for show, wastes everyone’s time including management and customers

    leaving the window open is to reduce the pressure it creates when closing the door. This is to avoid pushing the windsheild out while the urethane has not cured properly. If all windows are closed and you try to slam a door shut pressure builds up inside the car and air finds a way out, it may poke a hole into the soft urethane and will cause leaks.

      I was working on a windshield when a gentleman came running out of the house after having an argument with his wife. Him: "IS THIS THING DONE YET???" Me: "Yeah". Him: "GOOD". He got in and slammed the door. BOOM. The fuckin windshield poped right out and shattered. He blamed ME for it and said he was gonna kill me. I posted a video but youtube took it down because copyrighted music could be heard playing faintly in the background. (Makes sense /s). He had to go to a job interview and drove away with no windshield. lol.

    NEVER EVER EVER EVER WIPE THE DASH WITH THE SAME TOWEL YOU'RE CLEANING THE PINCH WELD AND CONTAMINANTS FROM THE EXISTING URETHANE at the same time! Reason behind it, most dashes are wiped periodically with a protectant that is SILICONE based. You're taking a chance transferring it to the existing urethane compromising bond.

    If they switch over to the BTB Tools scraper they can save a bunch on having to take the time to repair the scratches made when trimming down the urethane. The BTB has "shoulders" that prevent sidewall scratches. Save on labor and consumables.

    It would have been nice to explain how windshields are even attached to the car. And then explain how you need to cut through the urethane which is the 'glue' that is used to hold the glass in place. Then you could explain how the 'wire' will run between the glass and the urethane to separate the two to be able to remove the windshield. Now that's what is necessary to a complete video. :)

  • @jwa718
    @jwa718 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For completely inexperienced folks who know absolutely nothing about automobile repairs this is a decent video showing what's required installing windshields in newer vehicles. Safelite is a big company more about presentation and claiming to be ultra professional but they're only as good as their installers. Sure they train in house to avoid hiring experience installers who demand more than minimum wages. If you consider using Safelite ask what they do if even the smallest bit of surface is found---they might tell you they'd leave your vehicle without a windshield and only return when you've had a body shop repair the rust. No charge of course but you're still without a driveable car. Plus their own brand of glass is the most ill fitting product on the market---more savings for them.

    • @grantwilliams5685
      @grantwilliams5685 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They told me I needed to go to a body shop before they’d do mine went to 2 other glass shops and they laughed about it and said they see it all the time and just takes a little extra time for them and safelite just doesn’t want to take the extra steps

      @@grantwilliams5685 wrong we at Safelite want the pinchweld professionally fixed by a body shop. Safelite is all about doing everything the safe way non like other auto glass companies that will half ass fix a rust problem and throw a windshield on top. Very dangerous.

    • @BravaBlaze
      @BravaBlaze 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    is disconnecting the battery part of the Safelite process when electric rear-view mirrors are involved? I just got my windshield replaced by Safelite and now my electrical system keeps shutting down and restarting on and off. Now my usb connection to my phone has trouble connecting and my heater turns on and off along with the sound system. This all starting happening on my way home from Safelite after the windshield of my 2011 Infiniti FX35 was replaced. I popped the hood when I got home and noticed that the battery terminal wasn't very tight and also noticed that the tech didn't even put most plastic snap-in screws back in that keep the cowling cover in place. I called to bring my car back in for them to check the electrical problem and they made me set an appointment a week from now. What a horrible experience!

    safelite techs make the real glass guys look bad thanks hacklite. you guys recorded a hack in action bad passenger a pillar. shot the bead like the Nile. that glass slammed down when he set. that one tech is shit I can set better than him with my hands. safelite could be a better company let y'alls installers use cold knives and all that specially if that how a tech was brought up and comfortable.. you get these guys that hack everything. better on the body not for the Customer. you guys probably have great techs but you are making it hard for the journeymen in the industry. I've seen vin numbers cut off a pillars and headliners trashed because your cut out tools. the wire cut outs are good for certain things not everything. get a 1341,1658 y'all wished you knew how to use an extractor.

      The problem is safelite hires tech's with no experience and trains them for an inadequate amount of time and then they screw shit up so they took away all of the traditional tools that real tech's use and now they can only use the wire/fiber line and scrapers. And they still screw up just as much shit if not more. Most of the vet's/real tech's left safelite around the time all these new tools and company policy's were implemented.

    This woman is a horrible narrator. I have 20+ years experience installing auto glass and I am here to tell you that Brandon knows shit about what he is doing. Safelite trained...One day someone who knows his shit will teach him how it is really done. Gotta start somewhere I guess. He has potential though. Wait till he finds out half of the shit he is doing is totally unnecessary.

      The lifetime warranty covers air noise, water leaks, loose moldings, loose mirrors, wiper and rain sensor issues, glass defects, it also covers any issues with the door glass replacement; grinding noise, loose glass ect..
