The green vision mode is used in multiplayer for finding enemy Predators which show up as white. Plus you can locate your Disc weapon with this mode(it also shows up as white).
I'd like to add that the cloak isn't suppose to work on aliens...as you might've noticed, the alien can see the pheromones (those colorful outlines), so that's why cloaking does nothing against them.
that is true but remember back then first person shooters didn't grasp the concept of recoil its either you the character will fidget when firing or in rare cases recoil hinders your chance to hit the enemy which was in RPG standards, so for AVP 2 i have to hand wave it there, doom 3 you barely fidget around with the minigun
Tucher97 Yeah, despite popular belief, I think all AVP games were/still great. While some of it’s earlier mechanics are quite dated by today’s FPS standards, they don’t make the game insufferable.
GREAT video, thanks so much for the nostalgia. This spurred me to load up steam and play this again. A few things to point out - The grappling hook was a feature given to the predator in the Gold Edition expansion pack. Also, the "green" vision is used for seeing "Predtech" so you could locate your disk, pick-ups or enemy/friendly predators in multiplayer. The videos you encountered on your playthrough are in fact the new videos that were added to Gold Edition. The videos from the original release were actually 10x worse, and I believe it was actually the opposite that was true - the original videos were Rebellion employees, and the new videos were paid actors. Fun fact - I don't remember any of them, but there were numerous console codes that could make the game a hell of a lot of fun. I believe in the original version you needed to download a patch to enable the console, but in the subsequent Gold/Millenium editions the console could be accessed with the "/" button if I remember correctly. Anyway, some of the console codes allowed you to spawn any character type in the game. If you played as the Alien, you could create a swarm of aliens that were friendly to you. Likewise, when playing as Predator or marine, any of those that you spawn in would be friendly to you. I remember spending HOURS creating massive armies of all 3 sides, watching them tear each other to pieces. The combat AI was fantastic. Thanks for the vid. Hope this encourages others to pick up and play it. Also, subbed.
Just ended. Amazing. Like before, fast talking BUT I understood everything! I know when people love Aliens AND Predator and you definitely love this stuff...and it shows! Thank you for linking the MOD! I've been playing this game for YEARS and I can't wait to try it!
It's the Rebellion team on the screens on the Gold Edition and version on Steam. I thought the voiceacting was better in the original, but they have better equipment/costumes in the Gold Ediiton.
I bought both versions when they came out and honestly from what I recall that part has always been the same. He was definitely wrong about the weapons not carrying over though because they always have when I played unless I started a mission by itself from the mission select screen. So I got no idea what he is on about there. lol 😎
Yeah to me the voice actor change absolutely ruined the game - it ruined any sense of atmosphere! But obviously the the gold edition and steam version have many more advantages, so you just have to ignore it I guess.
Hello again! I'm rewatching this because I'm revisiting this phenomenal childhood game of mine again on my Steam Deck! This game was so ahead of its time. I really wish they'd remake it.
Some corrections/clarifications to this review The Predators cloak is less effective while moving (on purpose). If set on fire as an Alien, running at full speed extinguishes the fire faster. If I remember correctly, the Predator has a,button you can press that puts out the fire. Cloaking also doesn't work on Aliens, in all Avp games..
I'm glad this video is still getting comments and views. You speak fast but I'm keeping up because I had the gold edition when it came out and my grandparent's computer was the only thing it ran on. I'm currently paused at 5:24/24:50 on my first watch and this is so great! I can't wait to finish watching and get all your details. I'm stoked that somebody else liked Requiem as well.
in 1999 i just got 19" CRT I still remember my first encounter with facehugger, the shock when it jump and attached on face, i hit escape and leave the game didn't played for few days :)
i was heavy into the mutliplayer with this game joining clans and such there was a community of peeps from different lobbies. running marine sniper with them one shot head shots, and runner/drone alien all day
I've been a fan of the shared universe of Alien/ Predator since I was a little boy. I've been thinking about doing a video review of every game they entail. Sadly, I'm not good at video editing so seeing something like this with SO much hard work and effort is incredibly refreshing. If you're looking for more retro Alien or Predator games check out Alien vs Predator:Extinction, Predator:Concrete Jungle, or any of the old Alien games for PC. This was a great review and I'd love to see more content on these universes from this channel.
Gaming Pastime I now have an official favorite TH-cam channel. Check out AVPgalaxy for more stuff from the universe! It’s a great fan site if you haven’t checked it before!!
The third Predator vision is "tech" vision, it's used to find Predators and their equipment (useful in finding your Disks so you don't have to use energy to return them). Mostly used in MP since you don't have Predator enemies in SP.
Correction, as the alien you can regain more health from slashing at bodies, it doesnt regenerate a whole lot but if your on fire it is nearly essential with civs that carry molotovs
Me and a few other guys were some of the original modders for that game shortly after it came out. We even talked fox rep pezman into giving us the source code so we could do some heavier modding, then they freaked because they realized it included the bink source as well lol. Lots of good times with that game.
i remember playing this as a kid (well 13/14) and when it come out there was a md on a PC mag disc that made it so you were able to save 5 times a level as when the game 1st come out you were not ble to save when lying and had to start again from the start. finished this 100% and loved it a lot back then and still have it on steam.
The green vision mode detects predator technology, which is useful for the disc and the energy pick ups. Androids are also different from humans in that they can lose limbs and still attack you.
The third vision of the predator ( green ) is very useful to find the disc when it get stuck in walls . Most of the times you can pick it manually and save energy for auto retrieve
Alien doesn't just heal from head bites. Yes, it regains a significant amount of health (if not all of it) from headnotes, but slashing apart your enemies also gives you health. Just keep attacking a corpse, and you'll regain health.
Thanks for the review. Just bought the "Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000" on Steam. But it seems I can't start recording in Gefore Experience. Any ideas? Have btw Windows 10 Pro.
I have to mention some hidden gems in this game - when stalking marines they might panic, start shooting blindly left and right while screaming. When fighting androids (alien can't see their "aura" and predator can detect them in electric vision) when you cut on of their arms - if it is reloading arm thei will use their mouths to reload pistols or fancy one armed shotgun reload. If you cut off main hand holding shotgun they grab a pistol. Stalking people as an alien was fun!
Was going to write the same thing. Yes, playing with humans as an Alien was fun. You can induce panic by destroying lights in the environment, then hiding somewhere in the vents and hissing and roaring (keybind "taunt") within hearing distance of the patrol. And I was positively shocked back then when seeing wounded androids doing these tricks. Also marine grenadiers will produce a pistol if the Alien gets close, and marine flamethrowers if they run out of gas (instead of lengthy reload), and I believe there are some instances (scripted through the campaign?) where these guys use a pistol to blow their brains out instead of trying to stop the charging Alien.
Anyone remember playing the original multiplayer right before the Val Kilmer Red Planet movie came out, and there was a constant ad with weird sound for the movie when you started up the multiplayer server? I had pretty gnarly sinus surgery that winter and played tons of hours of multiplayer while loaded up on Codeine with my face feeling like I got kneed by prime Alistair Overeem. I got pretty good with the Alien and could run around and tail-whip one-shot the hell out of people in multiplayer. IMO it was the most effective of the three, but the hardest to master correctly. I just had lots of time on my hands to learn....
I played this recently for the first time and didn't like it all. The movement speed; the dark levels; the 7 save limit and above all the confusing maps made finishing the marine campaign in this game a challenge for me. I preferred AVP 2010 and had even more fun with the hated ACM.
The Alien also can regenerate health by just hiting the dead body of a human, not just from biting the head. Also, with the buttons to speak you can see the text of the mission again.
I'm pretty sure someone would have said it already but the third vision Predator has (the green one) is used to target other Predators and locate Predator items. And I think androids and xenoborgs become visible in that view.
Predator 2 was a great film. It removed the tension of building up the reveal and instead just showed off the Predator and it's abilities/weaponry. Both the first film and the second are incredible. Unfortunately I only got to play AvP 2010 version. You should try and review that game, as it has a lot of different gameplay elements. Would've loved to olay this version, has the old school exploration vibe.
not sure, if its changed in the modern versions, but in the original, you can heal als Alien even without the headbite. Just attack the corpses, the Alien then starts to eat them, and you get some health back from it (while scattering the bodies all over the place ^.^ you can attack/eat those bodyparts too, until they despawn). But the headbite gives you the most health and its an instant heal compared to eating normal bodies.
the cloak is more effective on the humans if you remain still, at far distances they wont see you move around, but if you are moving around up in their face the cloak wont work, also xenomorphs use pheromones to see so to them the cloak is not effective at all
You still get multiplayer matches? I never seem to have any luck with finding a match. Used to play the hell out of Gold when I was a kid, good days. Wish Steam had AVP: 2 on it as well.
I have always been drawn to the idea of combining the Predator and Aliens universes. I do not care for plot or anything, I consider it the most schlocky combo ever but for video games I see immense potential. IMO story and video games, _specifically action-focus video games,_ are like oil and water. I am not into the AVP specific media but I do not think that matters. Aliens versus Predators, Marines caught in the middle, it's not complicated. If I were to design my dream AVP game I would start with the Marines and make it the most brutal campaign ever. Then build the Predator and xenomorph campaigns on top of the human campaign to really show off what xenomorphs and the Predator can do. Since humans are involved, I assume this takes place on a human settlement, so the only advantage Marines have is they have easy access to all places and can lock any door. The Predator is like Doomguy on crack. Super jump, super strength, super advanced and powerful arsenal. Xenomorphs have pretty good defense, best mobility but not much for firepower. HOWEVER, xenos are replaceable. When the your xeno dies, another takes its place. I think it's stupid to keep a xeno living as long as possible. Xenomorphs are like ants, only living for the queen. You are a creature that understands it is disposable. Due to having almost infinite lives, xenomorphs are the noob campaign. You could lose 30 xenos on a Predator and it would be worth it. The Predator campaign would be the fun power fantasy, going through humans and xenos like popcorn but only having one life. And like I said, marines would be the insane difficulty mode. Humans are captured by xenomorphs to be turned into hosts and Predators kill humans to keep xeno populations down. There are no difficulty levels to choose from, you just choose from these very different campaigns.
With the alien you dont have to perform headbite, just need to start eating the body. And the predator can be seen by the alien because the aliens can see aura. You will be noticed by humans if you are too close. Asyou may seen it in the movie the cloack mode won’t make you invisible but rather very hard to be noticed. One question. If you install redux the game quits after the first level(on win10). Does anyone knows how to fix that ?
Nice review of a great game, and one thing I spotted in some of the clips is that sometimes the PredAlien skin resembles it's counterpart in AVP 2010. Is that a separate mod?
First game I ever brought on release. Facehuggers were terrifying. For best effect I suggest muting music and the awful remade briefing videos in steam version.
It’s interesting to think that this one doesn’t have much focus on the Predator because i think the second one is on the Predator planet and I remember reading in an old game magazine that the meat packing warehouse from Predator 2 is in there.
Also you can replace the FMV's and the background to the original counterparts in the file directory, if you have the original CD, which is much more enjoyable EDIT:they are also available to download on modb but if you want the original background you will have to own the original CD :)
in the 90s original, Both Alien, ALIENS and Predator theme music were indeed heard in the game. the 'company' had cheesy, camp dialog but the voice actors were British. You didn't mention if the summon cheat works in the new mod. If i was playing as the alien and i needed quick energy, I's 'summon marine' and make a quick kill.If I played as a marine, i summoned up a sentry gun to watch my back. You know what would have made a funky boss for the alien/ a marine with a five class rating, in a loader :)
I remember in 2000 the beginning of the marine missions(i think) scared the shit outta me.I was 28 years old then and was really enjoying Quake 3 and Star Wars pod racer. Then a few months later Unreal Tournament took over my life so i really never played AvP.
When I originally got this game I hit a bug so that night vision just messed up all the textures. In the end I just played though using flares. Made the game much better as you didn't have to watch a lime green screen half the time, and fighting aliens in the semi dark is a blast.
If you say so. It was actually weird problem with the power VR card, I've played the game since on more modern pc's and still prefer to not use the night vision mode..
you said "most least" at 1:00 and "more deadlier" 7:40. say either more deadly or deadlier, don't say "more deadlier". normally i wouldn't point something like this out, but you make these kinds of mistakes in other videos too.
The green vision mode is used in multiplayer for finding enemy Predators which show up as white. Plus you can locate your Disc weapon with this mode(it also shows up as white).
Good to know. It seems more beneficial for multiplayer. The retract ability almost renders it useless for that. Almost. If not for the energy drain.
I'd like to add that the cloak isn't suppose to work on aliens...as you might've noticed, the alien can see the pheromones (those colorful outlines), so that's why cloaking does nothing against them.
I realised that when I saw my arms glowing white when in the green vision mode.
It gets a lot more use in AVP 2 where you can pick up most of the bolts you shoot from your rifle, as long as they're somewhere you can reach.
@@teddyharvester It's hard to see them even in this vision mode. You just have to remember where you shot.
Predator 2 DOES deserve some love!
We need a new AvP game. Like, seriously. It’s been 8 years since we got the last one.
+ADEBISI ADEBISI I'm honestly curious what provoked you to say that.
Tucher97 Not the OP pulse rifle when you can shoot in short bursts. That threw me off, even the no recoil sniper rifle.
Tucher97 All AVP games have their flaws when it comes to fine tuning the marines weapons.
that is true but remember back then first person shooters didn't grasp the concept of recoil its either you the character will fidget when firing or in rare cases recoil hinders your chance to hit the enemy which was in RPG standards, so for AVP 2 i have to hand wave it there, doom 3 you barely fidget around with the minigun

'Aliens versus Predator 2' the PC (2001) game was fricken amazing!! It's still one of the best PC game ive ever played
This was peak gaming back in '99. We didn't have millions of polygons but we got three unique experiences in one game here.
in 1999 i just got 19" CRT I still remember my first encounter with facehugger, the shock when it jump and attached on face, i hit escape and leave the game didn't played for few days :)
My most favourite AVP game ever! Still hoping for a re-release as an PS or Xbox Remaster!
Some AvP games were really good. My favorites are from 2001 and 2010
21:35 good point! There is an annoying bug when as alien trying to climb down. Need to choose side wall to climb first or jump down.

Came here from your Diablo review. Totally loved AVP back in the day. Subbed.
There is the original cut scenes for the game in the redux moddb page
About the Predator 2 .. there IS a multiplayer metro station map in this game .. i wonder from where they took that :P

wonderful review, i love just how much detail you go into
Played this to death multiplayer back in the day. Good memories. No spear no disc.
I hope you review the AvP 2 game--it was my favorite of the bunch...I mean of course the one with 'Frosty' Harrison & Tomiko as the Y/T hacker
Next week
Gaming Pastime my man, where did u get your copy of avp2? Steam doesnt have it and last time i check GOG doesnt. Id love that sweeeeet nostalgia trip
Ebay
I STILL have my copy of AvP2 from the mid 2000s
And Tomiko was voiced by Jen Taylor (roughly same timeframe as Halo’s Cortana)

Excellent review
AVP 2 that came out on PC around 2004? Was awesome my favorite.
The green vision mode detects predator technology, which is useful for the disc and the energy pick ups. Androids are also different from humans in that they can lose limbs and still attack you.
Remember getting to play this at my friend's house as a kid. My toaster wasn't able to run very much 🤣
The third vision of the predator ( green ) is very useful to find the disc when it get stuck in walls .
Most of the times you can pick it manually and save energy for auto retrieve
This game had the best water implementation and was so far ahead of its time. Objects would float on its semi-translucent 3D surface!
Alien doesn't just heal from head bites. Yes, it regains a significant amount of health (if not all of it) from headnotes, but slashing apart your enemies also gives you health. Just keep attacking a corpse, and you'll regain health.
Prob the first multiplayer game i ever played as a kid, then it was on to Halo 2 - such good memories w both games.
i used to play this game so much. loved it. alien controls were broken though
Thanks for the review. Just bought the "Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000" on Steam. But it seems I can't start recording in Gefore Experience. Any ideas? Have btw Windows 10 Pro.
I bloody love this game!

This was a great video really well put together i gotta check out your other stuff
13:22 objectives in text form may be recalled by pressing F1 at any time
Anyone remember playing the original multiplayer right before the Val Kilmer Red Planet movie came out, and there was a constant ad with weird sound for the movie when you started up the multiplayer server? I had pretty gnarly sinus surgery that winter and played tons of hours of multiplayer while loaded up on Codeine with my face feeling like I got kneed by prime Alistair Overeem. I got pretty good with the Alien and could run around and tail-whip one-shot the hell out of people in multiplayer. IMO it was the most effective of the three, but the hardest to master correctly. You like AVP 2010 and Colonial Marines over this? Boy those are some real levels of shitty taste.
Awesome content, dude! Keep 'em coming! Subbed!
One of the FPS games, and the second game even better.
There's an AVP expansion pack called primal hunt. Is Primal Hunt in the gold addition by any chance 🙂👍
Primal Hunt is the expansion for AvP2.
@@Gamingpastime64 so it separate from the gold edition 😟
Primal Hunt comes with AvP 2 Gold.
@@Gamingpastime64 nice 🙂👍 thanks GP I'm definitely buying it then
nice upload! i just found your channel 30 minutes ago! your video of AvP made my day
The Alien also can regenerate health by just hiting the dead body of a human, not just from biting the head.
Also, with the buttons to speak you can see the text of the mission again.
This game was the bomb back in the day.
Love your sick channel this is why I watch TH-cam!
What about the crash problem in this mod?
I'm pretty sure someone would have said it already but the third vision Predator has (the green one) is used to target other Predators and locate Predator items. And I think androids and xenoborgs become visible in that view.
How many hours do you have on AvP 2000?
8:50 disc will back WITHOUT ENERGY DRAIN if you press the back button when it is still flying in the air.
I hope we get a game that more similar to this only with more added stuff.
i really liked the RTS marines, aliens and predator game.
AvP 2010 review coming in two weeks
Characters in this game move so fast, I could never get used to playing as the Alien.
MegapiemanPHD It was because of the 90’s.
1999 was a time where you actually had to use your head, you had to figure the game out for yourself.
not sure, if its changed in the modern versions, but in the original, you can heal als Alien even without the headbite. Just attack the corpses, the Alien then starts to eat them, and you get some health back from it (while scattering the bodies all over the place ^.^ you can attack/eat those bodyparts too, until they despawn). Will you ever Review Alien Resurrection & Alien Trilogy for ps1? Trilogy is on pc from what I've heard.
3:33 They look like replacement videos. The original videos were rather static if memories serve me correctly.
the cloak is more effective on the humans if you remain still, at far distances they wont see you move around, but if you are moving around up in their face the cloak wont work, also xenomorphs use pheromones to see so to them the cloak is not effective at all
Just thought I'd ask ; Did you know you can crouch jump as Alien? You bound HUGE distance and rip things apart as you fly!
Yeah, you can leap.
You still get multiplayer matches? I never seem to have any luck with finding a match. Used to play the hell out of Gold when I was a kid, good days.
Wish Steam had AVP: 2 on it as well.

one of the best FPS of all time
Nice review of a great game, and one thing I spotted in some of the clips is that sometimes the PredAlien skin resembles it's counterpart in AVP 2010. Is that a separate mod?
I still wish Rebellion would rerelease the new source code to fix the game up. So much more can be done.
What do you mean with " The new source code"? A second one?
Remember this game running so smooth on my Voodoo 2 and 400mhz Pentium. Memories...
Same rig as mine ... still cant remember the RAM if it was 32 MB or 64 MB ... so many years ago ...
a masterpiece.
Does it work for Windows 10?
I've finished the 100% story as a predator, about 70% as a marine and can't even pass the first level as an alien.
alien misson is so hard
First game I ever brought on release. Facehuggers were terrifying. For best effect I suggest muting music and the awful remade briefing videos in steam version.
It’s interesting to think that this one doesn’t have much focus on the Predator because i think the second one is on the Predator planet and I remember reading in an old game magazine that the meat packing warehouse from Predator 2 is in there.
no it's not, and no it doesn't
the green vision is for seeing other predators
Also you can replace the FMV's and the background to the original counterparts in the file directory, if you have the original CD, which is much more enjoyable
EDIT:they are also available to download on modb but if you want the original background you will have to own the original CD :)
This game had the best multiplayer, Aliens were actually super fast and deadly where as in avp 2 their speed was Nerfed.
in the 90s original, Both Alien, ALIENS and Predator theme music were indeed heard in the game. the 'company' had cheesy, camp dialog but the voice actors were British.
Negative, the voice acting was done by americans in the original game. The 2000 re-release featured changed voice over work with british cast.
is multiplayer alive?
Aliens versus Predator 2 game was much better than the first one.
This. There is an actual story given in AVP2. Rebellion’s AVP games outright sucked since the Jaguar.
What about AvP 3 (2010)? I thought that was pretty good.
Uh, Rebellion consistently dropped the ball for me here. Game is just not fun at all.
I personally love it... Though that could be due to nostalgia...
I agree. Monolith's effort was incredible, they really were a top developer during those years.
5:44 last predator's vision mode is against another predator.
Smart people would notice that predator hands are shining white :)
This game scared the shit out of me when I was like 6 years old
You should review the rts alien vs predator extinction.
Nice man very cool
STRENGTH TO THE REBELLIOUS ANGEL
you said "most least" at 1:00 and "more deadlier"
7:40. say either more deadly or deadlier, don't say "more deadlier".
normally i wouldn't point something like this out, but you make these kinds of mistakes in other videos too.
I love this game
Will you do a review for the sequel?
Coming next week.
Gaming Pastime Splendid!
I just got this game during the Steam summer sale.
honestly redux BARELY looks much better than the original imo
When's killing floor 1 and 2?
