    Mate for me is my mother calling from the kitchen very early in the morning;
    "The mate is ready",and the ordinary talk that followed before everyone get on with their day;
    Mate for me is arriving on a Sunday morning in a friend's house and be welcomed by a warm greeting and suddenly they say very happy,
    Oh my dear, look who's here,let's put the cattle on for a "mateada",
    Mate is gathering our friends and talk about everything while we wait for our time to drink;
    Mate is being alone, in the company of your thoughts,remembering the smile of my mother and the warmth of her hands, when she used to be here with us.
    Mate is a companion for reflection, a portrait of the past and will always be part of who I am.

    I felt no stimulating effects from it so far. However, I have combined it with coffee and have felt absolutely amazing! The argentenian Mate I have been drinking actually makes me more relaxed and sedated. I consumed in very large amounts and what it did was let me consume coffee on a much higher level with no agitation and no anxiety. I am not sure why I get this effect.

      I drink coffee and I don't feel stimulated. I feel tired and exhausted but my heart rate is really high.
      When I drink Yerba Mate, I feel energized and perky but not groggy or tired. For this reason, I cannot drink coffee and stick to the Mate.

    I actually bought a yerba mate plant just to see if I could grow it. I will have to make a setup for it in the cold months, to either leave it outside in a small greenhouse or bring it inside with a good grow light. I'm planning to use some a kombucha scobies in the growing medium for beneficial bacteria. I tried that in potted zinnias last summer, and they just exploded with blooming. I think blending yerba mate in kombucha enhances its great health properties.

    Maybe many commenters have said this before, but what you're calling "Brazilian" mate is usually referred to as "Uruguayan" mate. It's just that it's made in Brazil to Uruguayan tastes :-) Uruguay doesn't produce mate industrially; I don't understand why really. Brazilians usually drink a very powdery, very very green mate they call "chimarrao". The basic difference is that Uruguayan (and Argentinean) mate is left to age for a while so it becomes golden-colored and has this whole other taste profile.

    • @Circleofdrink
      @Circleofdrink  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use our own term for Uruguayan yerba grown in Brazil called Gaucho Mate to make the distinction.

    Hey Dave. I want to say thanks so much for the wooden gourd and Mission mate. The wooden gourd is a work of art it so beautiful. I like how much mate is allowed to be in the gourd. Just enough to enjoy a good time with the drink, it dosent waste the mate. The mission mate i really liked the taste a lot, its very authentic like the Argentinian style, very pure yerba mate. Excellent Dave, thanks a lot.

    Thanks for this video. I'm trying to do as much as I can to determine which varieties seem to have the best antibacterial abilities. I saw a study on the antibacterial properties, and I haven't been able to buy it to read all of it yet, but it did mention that types from Argentina may have more antibacterial properties than types from Uruguay. I was able to get Rosamonte and CruzDeMalta from Amazon, and so far tried to Rosamonte - that is very nice.

    You talk about Brazilian Mate, but you don't actually talk about any brand that is actually drunk in Brazil! Also, the cut is much, MUCH finer than Canaries. I know that you said you would talk more about it in another video, but nothing you said about Brazilian Mate is truly characteristic of the herb. It is also important to note that in Brazil, mate is sold without aging, therefore the color is an indicator of quality. The more neon green, the better. Brands include, Barão de Cotegipe, Ximango, Madrugada to name a few. None of the brands you listed really would be identified by a Brazilian Gaúcho as their traditional "chimarrão". I consider myself a bit of a snob when it comes to chimarrão and would love to chat with you sometime Dave! Abraços! -Mate Do Dia

      @@gypsyman535 nice. If you haven't prepared mate before watch a video of how to do it, this is a strong yerba as far as flavor and caffeine. For someting like this person that makes the mate drinks and spits out the first coupke of sips or the whole first pour as is gonna be unpleasantly astringent and bitter at first, and not really hot since you are drinking also the the first room temp water you poured in. If you havent drunk much mate it might take some getting used to it. To me mate is like beer, its not that great the first few times, but it grows to something you wanna drink your whole life.
