What a legend she is. 12 Grand Slam titles including 6 Wimbledon's. Women's tennis would not be where it is today without her. She was even asked to flip the coin at the Super Bowl this year.

I'm curious to know what was the reason given to reject squash from Olympics over the years. There are so many less popular sports in the Olympics it's so ridiculous.

Money -- all the new sports are about broadcast revenue, especially reaching younger spectators demographics. Skateboarding doesnt need the olympics, the olympics needs skateboarding. The same cannot be said for squash.

I play both tennis and squash. Playing squash can improve my volleying skills and fitness in tennis.

What a top draw person. Yes a woman, but the way she conducted herself is how every person should do. Positive, promoting the best out of everything and everyone.

I think the problem with Squash not being in the olympics isn’t anything to do with ambiguous rules or players dissenting against referees or anything. If those prevented entry, sports like Hockey, Boxing and many others would have been dropped decades ago. The problem also isn’t popularity - in terms of players, Squash far exceeds many events like Walking, Pentathlon, Water Polo, etc. The biggest problem by far is that there’s just almost no public awareness of the sport. As unpopular as Water Polo is, if you went out in the street and asked a hundred people what Water Polo is, at least fifty of them would be able to give you a decent description, and the same could be said of any other olympic sport. If you did the same experiment for Squash, it would be a surprise to get more than four or five good responses. The problem isn’t that there aren’t enough people playing Squash, it’s that there isn’t enough interest from outside the sport. For that exact reason, the IOC believes (or frankly, knows) that Squash won’t get a very large viewership at the olympics, and so it won’t be worth the money, effort and scheduling. If we want to get Squash in the olympics, we need to change the focus from getting new players to gathering public interest. This is a great sign that it’s starting to happen and it’s possible, and I’d like to see effort being put into increasing this kind of outcome

Lovely interview Joey - well done to you! She mentioned Barrington Snr. but were you too modest to say he is your Dad?!

Great to such a legend enjoying/appreciating squash. I agree that women in squash deserve equal pay but not tennis. At least not in the slams. I know that is a controversial statement but equal pay for equal work. Play best of 5 and I'm ALL for it!
