One thing I really enjoy is the low damage numbers. One example of comparison I like to bring up is Neptunia vs Dragon Quest. Neptunia has you doing over 1000 damage at level 1. Dragon Quest has you doing 2 to 5 damage at level 1. I don't need the extra zeros at the end of my damage to make it impressive.
Yep. It unironically made each hit more threatening. I remember underestimating first hour of darkest dungeon and paid the price "They just did like 3 damages. What could go wrong?"
I kinda like high damage numbers if the situation is correct. Dealing XXX billion damage in Tatsanuku vs Capcom but only taking 5% of the opponents health feels good in just how pointless it is.
Whoever your favorite is, it's just nice that they made the girls look appealing. Too many game developers these days think there's something wrong with that.

Your first sentence sums it up nicely. I tried the demo and had a good time and was expecting this game to be alright, but its quickly become one of my favorite games of the year
I was very interested in this game when I first heard about it years ago. I love the Metal Slug series, and I love strategy games, so this felt like the perfect combination for me. Was a little disheartened when they were silent for so long about what was going on with this game and perhaps a little disappointed when it was revealed this was going to be a rogue-lite rather than a traditional strategy game. It sounds like you and I are in the same boat in terms of our views on the roguelite genre, so hopefully you wind up enjoying MST just as much as me! 😁
It being a rogue is what had me interested. We've had a billion tactics games. A good rogue is infinitely replayable to a ridiculous degree if they add mod support. You should try Enter the Gungeon, Wild Frost, Monster Train, Luck Be a Landlord, Back Pack Hero, rogues are peak gaming.
Don't you guys just love how much enthusiasm the out of field voice put in saying "MARCO !"at the start when you pick him ?😂 And also YOU'RE GREAT! is a close second
Excellent so far. A bit top heavy with all the skill, mod, and item descriptions during upgrade screens, but still quite addictive. It’s a nice change of pace to have a new, non-fantasy tactics square-grid game.
I was planning to play through MH Icebourne and Rise in the lead up to Wilds after I finish Metaphor and then this stealth drops, which is right up my alley. Time to fortify the man cave.
I'm glad to see that this game finally came out and is actually good! The first announcement trailer went for a long time with nothing further, we were worried this was going to be vaporware.
I endorse it BUT KEEP IN MIND the devs put out a statement that they're having some visual issues with the game on Deck. They said they're working on it but it's not great atm.
A sea of stars style rpg based on the metal slug universe would be cool. There is so many cool enemies. I really hope they add mods to this one, it would be really cool to see some king of fighters characters like leona and ralph from metal slug 7.
It's interesting people are worried about it's roguelike nature. Into the breach is the same and well regarded, an absolutely fantastic game. Maybe because each run itself also feels like a campaign? Anyway, I hope this game will scratch that same itch, on with the video 😊
The roguelike nature actually killed the game for me. It was advertised as "rogelite" on steam, which I usually associate (vague as these genres might be) with a very strong meta-progression system. I was hoping to be improving characters movement range, damage, HP. And during the tutorial I was imagining all sorts of interesting build options regarding the movement+dodge and sync attack systems. I was massively disappointed when I found out that none of this progression is possible and most of it is just unlocks for stuff you might come across in the randomized part of the game, and everything is lost when a run ends.
Was thinking of playing this after Romancing SaGa 2 revenge of the seven. The metal slug tactics looks cool, also like that it does have actual bosses too. I think that was something I felt Triangle Strategy was missing. Like big boss fights, in which that game only had 1 big boss fight at the very end.
That's the bare minimum to offer with a stand-alone game. Let's hope we get some none metal slug characters. I'd pay extra for a Rambo or John matrix 😊
I actually prefer Darkest Dungeon 2 (compared to Darkest Dungeon 1) but maybe it's more because it's there's no stress/quirk management in the base pressure. Hard to get the game flow going.
I can't help but think elevation would be an unnecessary addition to Into The Breach, when you take into account the pushing mechanism the game is designed around. So much of what makes it great is that it's not necessarily about you destroying them, it's about you preventing them from attacking the buildings.
Ive been having a lot of fun, 2 clears on lowest difficulty. But man i feel like im so fucking stupid and missing out on so many op combos or playstyles. Im treatijg it too much like a normal tactics game and it is not what the game is at all. Very well done in making it feel like a whole new experiencr
The metal slug games are all amazing but because of the art being so time intensive they are so so short. But twenty hours sounds good. Thats like 20 times longer than the average metal slug game.
As someone who loves tacticals it's a little weird. Be ready to read page after page of the smallest print you've ever seen (tutorial). I'm in the 2nd AI generated battle and enemies simply keep respawning which makes no sense. Last another tutorial note popped up (after tutorial) covering 1/3rd of screen and won't vanish. Kinda buggy and broken though I'll give it another chance tonight.
I just wish the sprites were updated more and not trying to emulate the arcade games. These characters look great in the art and animation parts, so having the main part of the game be isometric versions of the pixelated arcade sprites feels a bit of a let down.
I don't mind this game is a turn-based tactics RPG. However since it's also a roguelike, I can't help but ask: Is it diverse and deep enough to feel fresh in every run?
It certainly has been fresh for me. Between 9 characters, 4 weapons and skill sets for each, and the way difficulty has evolved thus far, 20 hours have just FLOWN by. Obviously gotta see how it lasts from there, but I mean, for the price tag I can't find a fault at this point.
My only issue with the game thus far are the fonts. It's weird they used so many different kinds but I play on PS5 and it is often hard to read the texts. I don't think they play tested this at all, or maybe they sit very close to the tv? I've never had this issue, not to this extend. Maybe I need glasses 😅
I have been skeptical about this one since I've played the demo, it felt like the same fake-tactics-actually-puzzle-game that Persona Tactica and Into the Breach had. But I trust your opinion enough to give it a try.
I was absolutely worried about the same thing. But there's so much flexibility with skills and weapons, it felt so much better to me. I hope you have the same reaction.
sorry to ask, but did you try it? i've also played the demo and felt like it was a puzzle game wearing a "tacticts" skin, the "run-and-gun" gameplay makes it that you either get demolished or you demolish the nemies and it feels very limited unlike slow, turtly tactics games. That's the main thing holding my money back.
