The moment you say "Wait we're doing this now?!" is probably the most "Welcome to Endwalker" moment early on. Also I love that Hythlobro wasn't just a defective droid that became self-aware, he always was that cheeky dude to say that kind of thing: "Fare you well, my new old friend"
For added context in the lead up to EW, they showed screenshots of Anima out of context of the dungeon so everyone thought he was the first trial. Imagine everyone's thought process after his fight and the reveal of the actual trial
That made me so disappointment, I was looking forward to an Anima trial, only to be relegated to a minor boss in a dungeon. It always has been so strange to me that FFX doesn't get more representation in XIV, considering it's one of the most popular mainline games in japan.
29:10 Yeah, a lot of people forget when they get here that Zodiark is only 8/14 of his original self (the Source + 7 Rejoinings). That's only about 57%. So he was this strong... at about HALF power!
@dakotadoyle7573 I mean, we really don't have any ideas about the population of the ancients. Beings that live possibly thousands of years probably don't have a super high birthrate. All we know is they lost a lot of people to the final days, half their surviving population to zodiark to stop said final days and another half so 3/4s of what had survived to that point to restore the world. That could be millions it could be dozens, we really don't know.
Consider this: You knew we were going to the Moon, Thavnair, and probably Garlemald. Now you've been there. _Where else can you go?_ Find out next time...on Final Fantasy Z, I mean XIV.
So, fun tidbit. Every expansion's launch trailer has ended on one of the final songs of the expac. ARR ended on Ultima. HW ended on Imaginaton, the Aetherochemical Research Facility theme. Welcome to *literally* *everyone's* reaction to the trial. I had the bonus of going '...Did we get played into checkmate?' in the middle of the trial during the first few days and wiping.
you say everyone but whilst i fell for it too, Emet pretty much explained in Shadowbringers they summoned Zodi to delay the end. which should have translated to us that we needed to get rid of him early.. yet somehow it didnt.
This was the most WTF moment of all of Endwalker - there are ones that top it in scale and emotional impact, but this was the moment where the devs made it clear that we hadn't seen a damn thing yet.
The launch week experience wasn't really any worse than this, at least not from what I experienced - day 2 all blind, wiped once to mistakes accumulating, then got through a bit messily. Their rdms just meant they had the recovery power, so rather than wiping early on they could just continue.
@@Elendrial Mine was. It was the first time in thousands of hours that I have ever seen a trial timer reach 1 hour and kick everyone out. Then he follows with his Akh Morn and we would have 5 - 6 people alive, 3+ of them with more than 1 vuln stack and the repeated hits would just beat us to death. Every time. They just didn't learn.
This is 100% a dorito fight. As long as a few people know where to go, everyone else can generally follow. Week 1 endwalker there were not nearly as many who knew the fight!

@@Lordoftheapes79 I'm not sure I'd call it a big bad misdirect. with the unsundered dead, no more rejoinings were going to happen, so we always knew Zodiark would never reach full strength, and that he wasn't exactly sentient in his own right and was thus not really 'final boss' material. but we still fought him way earlier in the story than most would have expected.

I like how everyone who got there got baited and switched so hard. "Wait? Why am I fighting Zodiark at Lv.83???" Well, remember that Emet-Selch and the Final Days of Amaurot makes it clear that Zodiark was summoned to stop a disaster from happening and it make sense that he might not be the biggest threat here... and also, Fandaniel clearly said that he wanted to die... so you just gave him what he wanted, right?
THE Big Bad that they have been building up since ARR, that you've heard his name and dreaded the whole time as you played through the entirety of the MSQ and CBUIII is like "Nah, he's just a standard x3 trial." lol. I always thought the bait and switch was awesome. You got the 89 and 90 trials left (this isn't a spoiler, because they use this formula in every single expansion, trials at x3, x9, and x0), so perhaps just sit down and ponder sometime, just who they're gonna be.
It would've been nice had Zenos done anything during the trial. After all Fandaniel did just interfere with his hunt and I was told those who do so won't do so twice.
zenos respects the killing part of the hunt too much to "take another hunter's kill from them", he probably regards zodiark and by extention fandaniel as being "our kill" for two reasons: 1. the WoL, being everyone in eorzea's favorite champion, is bound by duty to find and attempt to kill zodiark. zenos recognizes this, but feels he must respect the kill regardless of if he was the one in control of the primal or not. 2. He only tolerated Fandaniel's presence so long as fandaniel helped his plans. fandaniel is no longer of use to him with him inside zodiark about to die at the hands of WoL and friends. to Zenos, this probably is a "good, rid me of that nuisance, would you? i'll find another god to consume and fight you with." kind of situation.
I'm more surprised that people actually thought Zodiark would ever be the final boss. Did people just fall asleep during Shadowbringers? Nothing about what was hinted at during the big revelations even hinted at Zodiark being the final boss. If anything, him being the final boss would be the ACTUAL surprise.
