  • Lake Tyrrell might appear to be in the middle of nowhere but it does know how to attract a crowd... whether it's for the sunsets or the birds that call this place home.
    On this trip, we had some pretty good views of the regular 3 Lake Tyrrell birds:
    * White-winged Fairywren
    * Rufous Fieldwren
    * Black-faced Woodswallow
    And for just that little bit of an added bonus.... we were lucky enough to enjoy the company of a pretty happy Red-backed Kingfisher.
    Most of our birding at Lake Tyrrell was during the day but we wondered what happened at sunset so we came back to experience what happened when the sun went down. Turned out... so did loads of other people!

    Always enjoy your videos, especially the juxtaposition of beautiful birding locations with people doing what they do! Brilliant. PS loved the white winged fairy Wrens esp.

      Thank you! 😀 Lake Tyrrell is quite an interesting place to see... and it really does pop at sunset! We were so thrilled to see those White-winged Fairywrens! Best views we've ever had of them! They are such pretty little birds. ~ Karen

    You have visited a great place for birding, and yes its a landscape photographers paradise too with the pink salt lake ( been there ). Also magical for the birds too when the tourists are not out in force. Another reason people visit this place is for the Aurora Australis - some magical photos are captured at this location too.

      It really is quite a unique place (and beautiful when there's no human noise)!! I didn't know the Aurora Australis could be seen there?! 😯 That would really be something to see! We were going to stay for the Melbourne Cup Weekend but there was a big astronomical event and the place was booked out. Not sure what was going on in the sky that weekend?? ~ Karen

    Loving your knowledge, enthusiasm and videos. My wife and I are over the ditch in New Zealand and we are exploring the bird life here. Having seen your journeys we are making notes of where to go in Australia to capture images.

      We've seen them there too. Never got any good shots of them though. They have always been too far away perched on top of a dead tree 😀

    Oooh... that male White-winged Fairywren was sooo.... BLUE! Perfect light. Loved it! Quick Fast Forward to the end: was all those peeps gone by morning? (I mean, it was a long weekend for you, you were there the next day as well?)
    I do appreciate your salty comments, I would've felt like vacating the place pronto... Maybe *after* taking a photo or two, especially on that Tyrell "sign". Anyway, very VERY nice video, although I can't stand watching those flies in and around Nimal's face.😬 No fly/mozzie-net for him, eh?

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I so agree about the flies.... and why Nimal won't wear his face net I don't know??? He does have one but I think he's concerned he'll see a special bird & not be able to focus through the camera in time. I just hate flies around my face (and they try & fly into your ears!!)
      All those people really just turned up for the sunset & to take selfies. They tramp all over everything and scream and talk loudly. They were all mostly gone by the time we were leaving. All the touristy stuff (like the big sign & a platform/chairs) are all fairly new to attract the people to see the pink lake. Looks like they are now going to build some kind of accommodation so I guess that would be great for birders as there is nowhere to stay right at Lake Tyrrell (though I'm guessing they'll make it more attractive to the sunset market) ~ Karen
