Would you recommend we stay on the outskirts of Rome and take public transport into the city in this case, even if we plan to spend 3 days there? This will be our 2nd trip to Rome. Thank you again for your useful content!
Thanks for watching - I'm glad you find it helpful. I almost never recommend staying outside the center when visiting Rome unless you are here for an extended stay, because it just adds a lot of transportation time to your short stay. But perhaps you can find something that's in a quiet area and with room for your pugs to run around a little. Just try to stay near a Metro station.
No, as I mentioned in the video, the train from Roma Termini to FCO is not part of public transportation, it is part of the Italian railways system, Ferrovie dello Stato.
I suggest an eSim. On almost all pages of our website, we have links you can use to book your eSim with a discount. Check here for example: www.romewise.com/where-to-stay-in-rome.html Look for the block about Holafly and there you will see the discount code. It works great!

Do I need to take a lift to get to the train platform? How about at Termini. Do I need to take a lift to get to the taxi rank? I need a taxi to the Spanish Steps area. Thanks
Thank you for watching my video. In answer to your questions: 1. Yes, there are lifts in the airport. They don't take you TO the train station but you can use moving walkways. If you are in a wheelchair, you can take the lift in the airport to street level, get to the street level entrance of the station, and then take the lift up to the station from there. 2. The train platform is on the same level as the train station. 3. At Termini, the taxis are on the same level as the trains. But there are also lifts inside the station if you need to go elsewhere. At Termini, when you exit your train, go out on the same level to the taxi rank. You may also find this page helpful: www.romewise.com/accessible-rome.html
You can look here to see the schedules: www.trenitalia.com/en.html Children over 12 pay full price, so you'd need 4 normal-priced tickets, which from Fiumicino to Trastevere cost 8€ each. I show this in the video, so you may want to check again to see where I talk about it.
Thanks for watching! Yes, there are some white city taxis that are vans, and they can accommodate you. However, you may not get one quickly as they are rare. Also please note there are surcharges for luggage and additional people so it may actually be to your benefit to book a private limo service ahead of time. It will be cost-efficient and you won't have to wait around for a large car to show up.
@@halftrack181 I recommend using the links I shared in the description. All the limo companies provide a similar service and since they are private companies, they care about doing a good job. No, the CIS does not include the trains leaving from Fiumicino airport. The trains are part of the Ferrovie dello Stato, the state-run railway, whereas the CIS is part of Rome's municipal transport system.
Thanks for your input. I film some videos from my house in part because of the heat, and in part because some of the videos I've made over the years involve me talking from a park or other green space, and then adding b-roll (footage) over my talking. When i narrate outdoors, it takes 10x as long to film because I have to wait for a lot of distractions to subside. These include planes flying overhead, sirens, people on cell phones, motorcycles and other loud traffic, etc. So for those videos where I've been narrating, it made more sense for me to film the narration in a quieter space than a park. I do love filming outside and taking you along with me, and will certainly be doing more of those as well, especially after some of the renovations around Rome finish up and it gets a bit cooler. We also have more Florence content coming soon!
That would depend on your hotel. Some hotels offer this, so check with them. Most hotels, however, do not offer shared shuttles from the airport, so you might try getting a shared shuttle with an outside company. These usually drop you at a strategic spot somewhere in Rome's center, and then you'd still have to get to your hotel. For me, I think it would be worth taking a taxi or limo directly from the airport to the hotel, but if you're looking for the more economical route then the train is great and easy, as I've shown in this video. Then you just need to get to your hotel from the central station.
You can try to use the UBER app but please note that it does not work the same as it might where you are from. In Italy, we only have UBER black which means a limo service. So you'll be paying a lot more than you might with a regular taxi. If you do want to use it, just put in whichever terminal you are standing in (1, 2, or 3), and the driver will come pick you up there.
Thank you so much for this video! My friend and I just returned from our 1st trip to Italy. We flew into FCO and wanted to take a taxi to our hotel, Marriott Rome Park. When we got in the taxi line and got to the front of the line, the guy told us it was going to be 95€, but even though our hotel was outside the Aurelian wall, it was closer to the airport than any of the hotels inside the city. I remembered what you said about taxis costing about 55€ inside the walls and refused to pay 95€. I convinced my friend to get out of the taxi line, and as we were standing to the side, a man came up and offered to take us for 60€, but I also remembered you saying don't get into an unlicensed taxi. The train ride from Rome to Naples take just over an hour. Here are the two official websites for the Italian train companies: www.trenitalia.com/ www.italotreno.com/en
@@shenandoahbryson You should be able to purchase all tickets on the website. You can also use a kiosk, but it's pretty easy if you prefer to do it online. One of the person in our group has a flight at 7am on Friday am. What is the best, safe and affordable way to get to termini station and from there to the airport. He will need to be at the airport at 5am. We are staying near Patti. Would really appreciate as I am very worried without internet access. Thank you for great very very useful videos.
It sounds like you are not staying at a hotel, because if you were, I'd suggest you have the concierge help you. I know you asked for the most affordable way to get to the airport but if it were me, to get to the airport alone at that hour, I'd book a car service in advance. It will be the most expensive option, but I can't put a price on peace of mind. But if you really don't want to book a car service, then the next best way will be with a white city taxi. You can book one in advance with the IT Taxi or FreeNow apps. Or you can find the nearest taxi rank, and make sure to get there at around 4AM to ensure you get a taxi. You might find this useful: th-cam.com/video/5D6TznkGMJo/w-d-xo.html
You need to be at the airport 2-3 hours prior to your flight (2 hours if within Europe and short-haul flights and 3 hours if long-haul flights) If your flight is at 6am, I suggest you take a taxi or car service. If your flight is at 8 or 9am and you are asking about getting to the airport for 5am, you may be able to take the Leonardo Express. Use Trenitalia to check the schedules. There are Leonardo Express trains leaving Roma Termini at 4:50 and 5:20 am.
Thanks but I tried that, I put in directions for Google maps from the airport to Rome and it shows a 3:15 am bus departure when I put in 12:15 am arrival at the airport.
@@klangkarussell4599 Yes they do not run at all hours but it's the only form of public transportation that runs late at night. When are you arriving? Ferrovie d'Italia (the state-run train system in Italy) have said they plan to extend the hours for the Leonardo Express but I don't know when they are doing this. I presume in time for the Jubilee in 2025 but it may be sooner, but nothing is certain. Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll either need to take a taxi or wait for the next available bus.

But if you really don't want to book a car service, then the next best way will be with a white city taxi. You can book one in advance with the IT Taxi or FreeNow apps. Or you can find the nearest taxi rank, and make sure to get there at around 4AM to ensure you get a taxi.

Thank you.
Can you do one in reverse? From Rome city to Airport?!!
Absolutely! Thanks for the suggestion!
For morning 6 o clock to catch a flight , which is the easy option to reach airport
You need to be at the airport 2-3 hours prior to your flight (2 hours if within Europe and short-haul flights and 3 hours if long-haul flights)
If your flight is at 6am, I suggest you take a taxi or car service. If your flight is at 8 or 9am and you are asking about getting to the airport for 5am, you may be able to take the Leonardo Express.
Use Trenitalia to check the schedules. There are Leonardo Express trains leaving Roma Termini at 4:50 and 5:20 am.
Hi! What if I am arriving at the airport just after midnight and trying to get to Rome's city center?
As I mention in the video, you can take the bus.
Next month and just after midnight, so I'll look around for the bus and if not, likely just take a taxi cab for 50 euros. Thanks!
@@klangkarussell4599 FYI the official taxi fare is now 55 Euros, not 50.
What about Ciampino?
I'll make a separate video about that since the ways of getting to and from that airport are vastly different than between Fiumicino and Rome.
Can you help me on tips to get my late Oct voucher for Vatican Museum? I paid and have the proof on my credit card statement, but total radio silence from VM. No email confirmation, even after second request to their official email. unable to pull up voucher on their site. Extraordinary poor ordering system, by the way. I rec'd a Programmer-language Error Code, (no explanation "for humans"). Through research, found out I needed to use a VPN to appear as a "new user" to order tickets.
Have you checked your spam/junk folder? It's possible the tickets are there.
If not, I suggest you continue to email them.
You could also try to show up with your email and proof showing you paid and explain what happened. It's possible they will let you in and then you can head directly to the ticket help desk right after you pass security.
Used train and the bus, bus is the best IMO
Yes both are good. I like the train because it's faster, but the bus is fine and also comfortable.
Love your YT channel...Please do a video on how European Seniors with small pensions can stay in Rome for a week or two on a small budget.
Thank you for your kind words. Thank you also for your suggestion about visiting Rome on a budget. I do have a page about this on the website, and it's on my list for a future video:

@@Romewise thank you
👍
Dont be trusting Trenitalia going to the airport. Took over two hours, and that missed my flight, leaving me to buy another ticket on another airline to get home.
Yikes! That sounds like it was a terrible experience. Usually these trains are unaffected by strikes but perhaps there was something mechanical. Sorry you had such a bad experience!
@@Romewise It was something broken ahead, which shut down the entire line. Same thing happened in London on the shiny new Elizabeth line, costing me an entire holiday to Lanzarote. And a third trip another time yet another failure of public transport TO the airport cost me a trip to Ibiza. Travel is too much like hard work these days… But thanks to the EUs EES and ETIAS, that wont be a problem for much longer……
Great video and review for those who have gone to Rome. I’ve used both the Leonardo Express and white Rome taxi. Question about getting tickets for the Express : can you also buy your ticket on the Trenitalia app and use your phone to get through the turnstiles to the train? Thanks!
@@kathyholland8275 Thanks for your comments. Yes, you can absolutely purchase this ticket with the Trenitalia app and use your phone to go through the turnstiles.
The station at FCO looks so much nicer than when we used it years ago!
Last time we took the bus…very efficient.
Thank you so much for this video. It is very informative and I appreciate it. You are the best!
Thank you for your kind comments, I appreciate them a lot!
