Yea when I did my exhaust on my 90 f150 lariat back in highschool that thing was obnoxious open header! It was fun for 30 seconds. But sounded way better after the custom duals. And was quite in the cab but loud as hell outside.
As an old guy originally from the midwest, back when they were released we called the '87-91 body the bull nose because of the rounded hood edge, so I still find it odd people call the '80-86 body the bull nose. Anyhoose. My last of this vintage was an '86 Bronco Eddie Bauer w/5.0L and first gen speed density EFI (and I'm so jealous of your Lariat trim because I didn't get the factory tach even though mine was the top line Bronco)....after 100k hard miles, we pulled the engine and trans, gave her a really good overhaul, including pre-'75 351 heads that were mild ported, big valves, mild cam, roller rockers and lifters, 10/10 crank, JBA headers, custom exhaust, tweaked & freshened, all the goodies- by far my favorite vehicle (and I've had nearly as many vehicles as birthdays). Body just fell apart with too many midwest salt enhanced winters. Love your F250, she deserves whatever you throw at her. Cheers & beers!
i had 86 f-150 5.0l and just changed the air box to a 89 k n filer and got rid of all that air cleaner mess, shorty headers flowmaster and made 200 fly wheel hp from 185hp stock. ran a 16.96 in qtm if you need to adjust timmig on truck their is a pig tail on the distributer pull the cap of the pig tail to make changes, that pigtail locks timming in.
Not sure if you care but I purchased a 2015 Ford Focus ST. It's sad but truly the fastest car I've ever owned. Mil-tec catless downpipe exhaust system and intake system. It is very quick for a 2.0 turbo. Maybe you could find something like that or Ford Focus ST just to mix it up a a little bit for the front-wheel-drive guys LOL.
get your interior color off the build codes in the glove box, get online and order some cans of SEM color coat and mist that seat down and it will look brand new! I’ve dyed cloth seats, door panels, dash’s and dash pads and vinyl and carpet with it. As long as you seal it with the sem color coat clear coat it’s extremely durable!
You should dig deeper into that AOD, it might not need as much as you think. Even though the gear selection shows O-D-1, you could still manually select second depending on speed. A full service and valve body rebuild it might be back to normal. That with 5.13’s in the rear would make it a fun scoot.
Man, I love the Bullnose videos. I had an 86 back in the 90’s that my father in law gave us. It had the 302 as well and he had took the mufflers off. It wasn’t too loud and sounded great. I’d love to find another one but it’s hard to find em anymore than haven’t been ran hard and laid up wet. Looking forward to the mods you have in the works. 👍🏻
I have my dads 82 Lariat he bought new. I prefer the bullnose over the brick and obs. His was a factory 351W with the VVT 2 barrel lol, ran good whe it was good if ya'll know what I mean, got rid of th EEC IV system 11 years ago, now has a Duraspark, Edelbock intake 650 Holley, mild cam, Hooker headers, the same 2 chamber Flowmasters I had installed in 1998. I love driving it.
There's a vacuum line on the front of some of those bullnose transmissions that will cause it not to shift. Not sure if it's the same but I had trouble with it .
I believe that truck has one too many vacuum line leaks and that may cause some of the transmission issues,, and put a top loader or a borg warner t10 granny gear 4spd manual shift transmission.. although I thought about the 5spd swap too.
I literally saw at least three dents while you were showing and saying there are no dents!!😂 but it all ok. It’s a nice ole truck. My Dad bought a new 1980 and traded it for a new 1983 both were 1/2 ton 4x4 300 I6 4 speed. Took my drivers test in the 83. Nice ole trucks.
it is great seeing you put another old ford back on the road. Being I had a maroon short bed 86 4x4, w/5.0 efi, with the same deluxe interor I really like it. Keep up the great content craig
I worked at O’Reillys and we had a lifetime warranty on pads too but at least for us it didn’t apply to every day wear just if they broke or whatever because if it was for normal wear then you would just gave free pads forever and they wouldn’t make money
My dad had a nice 86 but he hated it. It was the only for he owned that rusted out in a year. He traded it in for a Toyota and lifted that up for off roading. Then that didn't have enough power so he got a 90 ranger.
@thecraig909 - How do I tell if my 5.0 is a 50oz or 28oz? I know you have mentioned this in other videos and since you are the killer of all small block Fords I trust you!
I have an f100 and it’s perfect bc nothing on it is original so I can whatever the hell I want without feeling guilty so I have a 7L heavy industrial turbo diesel set now I just gotta commit to it😂😂😂
In '96 I has and '84 F150 with AOD adn 302. Back then I drove it like it it had a engine like your '71. Back then people weren't real confident in the AOD's and after the second time I burnt it up (me and friends taking it out and having it built) I put a C4 in and it held up a little better to teenage abuse. That being said good luck with this one. :}
It's actually a 4 speed. A 3 speed with overdrive otherwise known as Automatic Overdrive (AOD). This was new for the 1980s era of Ford cars & trucks & was an option during that decade. The 4 speed became the standard automatic transmission by the mid 1990s.
good video! 85 was split year could get efi or carb and also 85 and newer most were roller blocks but came with flat tappet cams but it is a roller block!
A guy that I worked with back-in-the-day bought one of these trucks brand new and three days after he purchased it with 17 miles on it it developed an intermittent Miss he kept taking it back taking it back taking it back they can never recreate it but you'd be driving down the road and all of the sudden it would just start missing and it would mess for a day and a half and then go away Ford couldn't find it some friends and I who are all ASE certified mechanics we went over it with a fine-tooth comb and where the wiring harness plugs into the computer that ran the injection system on this had one stinking terminal for the number three injector that would get hot and lose connection we took the plug apart pulled out the terminal from the plug after disassembling the plug reconfigured it so that it was a tight fit and it never did it again
I picked up an OBS F-250 about 6 months ago, but now y'all got me wishing I had gotten a Bullnose Also glad to see I'm not the only one that stands on the rolly shop stools 😂
My uncle was very good at taking care of trucks... Proceeds to let the truck sit outside in the elements for 20 years... Sure sure, whatever you say mate.
You need ur own independent work shop. Tight work quarters and the inconvenience of moving other vehicles around to out of that garage has got to be annoying at times. Plus you have the interfering neighbor who is not funny while also getting in the way. Thank you for the vids Craig.
I have an 85 with a 6.9 and a 95 with a 5.0. I love these trucks. Glad to watch someone else build one
I have a 86 with a 6.9 I built it. Makes good power. Thinking about taking the 6.9 out and putting it in a 60s f100
I don't know if this year model of truck as a vacuum modulator valve but if the line or the valve has failed it will hold 2nd
this bullnose content is my favorite hes done in a while
That's all right Craig, It'll buff out.
If you ever want to hear something ridiculous on a efi 302 truck, run it open headers with the o2 unplugged, sounds like a rally car anti lag system 😂
I had an old ford van with a 302 and headers. Ram em open for a weekend or two. Loud isn’t descriptive enough.
Yea when I did my exhaust on my 90 f150 lariat back in highschool that thing was obnoxious open header! It was fun for 30 seconds. But sounded way better after the custom duals. And was quite in the cab but loud as hell outside.
That sounds fucking stupid. I can’t wait to do it 😂
I would keep it automatic... Just me personally. Cool truck
May need to adjust the TV cable on that AOD trans! That may help you get third and fourth!
Ford Truck content Craig!!!!! Love 80's trim!
I'm fired up for the Bullnose content! I've got a 1984 I'm working on getting back up & running. This is great motivation for me.
I'd think of swapping in a t19 or zf5. Still a really cool truck it'll be cool to see how it all turns out

tv cable could be not adjusted right as well. Even if its out prob cheaper to rebuild it than swap.

Man this channel has given me so much confidence in working on my own vehs. Thanks for these videos keep ‘em coming man. Don’t ever stop

Definitely need longer episodes for this build!! Please
My truck was having the same problem with the brakes do to the master cylinder bypassing.
There's a vacuum line on the front of some of those bullnose transmissions that will cause it not to shift. Not sure if it's the same but I had trouble with it .
Sounds like a great project
I’ve got an 86 with a 300 that I’ll swapping to a 302 in the next month. Needless to say I love this series!!
I had the 85 HD F250 with the 460 c6 factory 3in lift
Lovin this rig, looking fwd to these episodes. Hoping to learn how to beef up my crusty 86 bronco.
Great video 1982 was the last year Ford made the F100 That's why I kept the 1 my dad owned it's a short bed you don't see many bullnose F100
Shut the front door !!! A man shift , I can’t wait !! . Cheers 🇨🇦
I believe that truck has one too many vacuum line leaks and that may cause some of the transmission issues,, and put a top loader or a borg warner t10 granny gear 4spd manual shift transmission.. although I thought about the 5spd swap too.

You know you can use one of the old pads and a c clamp to push all the pistons back at once right just a tip
lol at that one-wheel-peel burnout.
What a gem of an old shitbox.
I want it!
Hello what brand are the clear safety glasses you were wearing in video ?
Love your channel, dude! Can't waitvto see the Galaxie painted
0:45 "supposebly" 🤦🏻♂
it is great seeing you put another old ford back on the road. Being I had a maroon short bed 86 4x4, w/5.0 efi, with the same deluxe interor I really like it. Keep up the great content craig
Does the truck have a leveling kit
Vary sweet truck indeed. Keep up the great work.
My cousin had one with a 351 Windsor and manual transmission. It served him well for a long time.
Big fan of you Craig and I have a motor suggestion for the truck maybe a 390 fe bbf
Is this the same as the black one marty had in backtothefuture?
2:09 dent
Waiting for you to get a 95 - 97 Lincoln Town Car, they are amazing.
I had a 1985 F150 5.0 EFI with 4 speed with 4 gear was over drive. Got 21 mpg
Love this build so much
I worked at O’Reillys and we had a lifetime warranty on pads too but at least for us it didn’t apply to every day wear just if they broke or whatever because if it was for normal wear then you would just gave free pads forever and they wouldn’t make money
Is that a a black Ford fairlane parked outside for sale ???
What safety glasses are those?
I would start doing the five speed swap then worry after to detail it it looks good with a manual with the detail
Not sure if your shop is in Escondido, but that looks like my old 84' corvette in the parking lot. I traded it for a c20 with a 383 stroker.
Great stuff thanks
Killer truck Also my favorite. But old trucks rot out in up state new England
What rims are on the bull nose?
Dump a bottle or 2 of B12 chemtool fuel injector cleaner in the fuel tank.
My dad had a nice 86 but he hated it. It was the only for he owned that rusted out in a year. He traded it in for a Toyota and lifted that up for off roading. Then that didn't have enough power so he got a 90 ranger.
Dude clean set up bull nose pullin ur og f100 🤝🏼👀🫣
@thecraig909 - How do I tell if my 5.0 is a 50oz or 28oz? I know you have mentioned this in other videos and since you are the killer of all small block Fords I trust you!
My transmission quit working last weekend and I am in the process of getting a new one. 😢
Clean it first!!!!!
Before one of those quiet place bugs come out the frame rails Craig!!!!
Cause I want to see you live long enough to get that GT
Love your trucks they're awesome
I had a 85 n had efi 302 no joke
Hahahah 😂kinda funny how they
Said 3rd didn't work and then you drove it and 3rd didn't work.
😂😅.. it's still pretty clean
I’m excited for this one I want to get another bullnose
can someone explain me whats the difference between a white and a black numberplate? best regards from switzerland
when its a tad tight to get in and out of the shop @11:34 to 11:44, lol.
I have an f100 and it’s perfect bc nothing on it is original so I can whatever the hell I want without feeling guilty so I have a 7L heavy industrial turbo diesel set now I just gotta commit to it😂😂😂
The air powered gun with the sand pad usually goes faster if you know what I'm talking about 😂
You mean ruin it by putting a manual in it Craig
Interesting in seeing the manual conversion. Been contemplating on converting mine to a manual
In '96 I has and '84 F150 with AOD adn 302. Back then I drove it like it it had a engine like your '71. Back then people weren't real confident in the AOD's and after the second time I burnt it up (me and friends taking it out and having it built) I put a C4 in and it held up a little better to teenage abuse. That being said good luck with this one. :}
A bad booster would make braking more difficult. Air in the lines or a hydraulic leak is likely the reason for brakes going to the floor.
Well, realistically, when you get a set of rotors, you should scuff the rotors. Anyway, because of the fact that you want the friction.
Isnt the transmission only a 3 speed?
It's actually a 4 speed. A 3 speed with overdrive otherwise known as Automatic Overdrive (AOD). This was new for the 1980s era of Ford cars & trucks & was an option during that decade. The 4 speed became the standard automatic transmission by the mid 1990s.
@corybeaver1909 oh ok are they reliable. I really like this body style of Ford's I have an 86 diesel. I want a short bed f150 302
good video! 85 was split year could get efi or carb and also 85 and newer most were roller blocks but came with flat tappet cams but it is a roller block!
Swap in an AOD for cruising and some better rear gears!
16:07 oh no please do, I would love to hear you talk like that 😂
This truck is awesome! I have a 1987 Chevy R10 which was the only year the square body's came with fuel injection as well. Thanks for your content!
If it were me I'd kept it an automatic by either having the original tranny rebuilt or put in an auto 4wd tranny if i was considering doing a 4wd swap
Sad for 3/4 with small block
try lucas it might fix it to not slip anymore
I got a 82 f150 with a 302 I’m building like the f100 you got
Next is a bricknose plz😅
Maybe fully restore it and show your uncle
Oh dang I thought it was a 4x4 build
Keep this one pls
I don't think there was a 4 speed auto in 86. Must have the 3 speed C6.
One legged tire fryer.
LEEEETSSSS GOOOOOOOO🔥🔥🔥🔥
Beat me to it
I like that ford truck
I picked up an OBS F-250 about 6 months ago, but now y'all got me wishing I had gotten a Bullnose
Also glad to see I'm not the only one that stands on the rolly shop stools 😂
My uncle was very good at taking care of trucks... Proceeds to let the truck sit outside in the elements for 20 years...
Sure sure, whatever you say mate.
Linda está camionete file
Zip ties and bias plies,he loves old ferds, especially those fuel injection models
I agree about the bullnose generation
You need ur own independent work shop. Tight work quarters and the inconvenience of moving other vehicles around to out of that garage has got to be annoying at times. Plus you have the interfering neighbor who is not funny while also getting in the way. Thank you for the vids Craig.
I have a WESTERN FLYER 👍
Bullnose is my favourite and I drive a dodge
Convert it to carb
It 351 winzer
Hell yeah brother
