I'm a 76 year old male, who envys you and Chris lives. I married a "Princess" which means she hated to camp, rarely drove on vacation -had to always fly, top restaurants, vehicles, a 2nd house etc. I wish I could do it all over and do it Chris's way. This is a wonderful channel enjoy watching your pup and seeing you grow into life. My one suggestion to you and Chris is "Don't wait to do something in life" We waited to long and my wife had a brain tumor, then 20 yrs later Ovarian cancer, back surgery for her and we can't travel at all 'cause she lost 70% of her vision. Don't wait - Do it now and you won't regret your decision on life. Bless you guys.

Bill Beck, thank you for your advice. So true. I'm 64 and looking to live this life for the next few years...in the planning stages.
Yes, I wish I would have done it sooner... but it's not the case... so what do we do with lemons? Make lemonade. ♡
      Even the planning is fun.
Thx again for your insight. Appreciated.

@billbeck47 That’s the whole point of their channels-Linnea & Chris aren’t waiting til life passes them by. No deferred retirement for them.

@@NMWriterofWords I understand what you’re saying about the use of the word “Princess” but remember this man stood by his wife during her brain tumor, ovarian cancer, and loss of vision. And that all may just be the tip of their health nightmares.
My husband & I have major degenerative health problems for which there is no cure. Love and kindness is what we each need for support. Oh, and of course lots of laughter! Linnea & Akela, along with Chris & his pup, inspire me.
Many ppl find healing in nature which is not the same as being cured. But just watching them brings me joy, peace, laughter, and, yes, healing.

@@NMWriterofWords you’re assuming the incorrect definition of that word in how HE meant it. You wrongly assumed he’s somehow disrespecting her. Any man who stays with his wife through all of that has more love and respect than I’ll assume you’ve ever known! Because I’ve been there, lived it when the Husband (mine) did mean it the wrong way. This man sacrificed everything FOR his wife.

Linnea, I am just like you in refusing assistance, but I have learned to let the person offering help do what they've offered -- because it makes them feel good! Chris clearly loves you and appreciates your independence and knowledge, it doesn't appear to intimidate him. It seems that he's offering assistance because he's being thoughtful, not trying to diminish your abilities (remember, you are a team!). Compare it to how good you feel when you've made a delicious meal and are watching Chris eat it with happiness and gratitude. Accepting Chris's help in no way makes you weaker, it can strengthen your partnership. Just my two cents. 🙂

You two are exactly right. When I was married and had children, I did everything. My husband believed that if he was bringing in more money, even though I worked too, that I should be the one that took care of the children. That is one of the reasons that I divorced him. I felt like if I was raising children by myself, then I wanted to be by myself so I could be a good mom & not be expecting something from him he would never do. It is so refreshing to hear how Chris wants to be a father that will be there for his children. Actually made me cry. You two are the real deal. And, I’m so happy you met. ♥️♥️

I hear you completely! The difference is, I stayed with my husband and to hear him reminiscing now about how much he did (thinks) he did with our son makes my blood boil. He was definitely the guy who, if he stayed with our son while I ran out to shop etc. he "babysat". He remembers changing diapers and I honestly think I could count that on one hand. I took my son everywhere from grocery shopping to school meetings etc. He totally believed it was his job to earn the money and mine to look after everything else. I went back to school full time when my son was 6 and everything was still on me...even down to leaving school early to pick child up from school. To be fair, when our son reached 7 or 8, my husband spent much more time with him due to sports etc. I realize it was a different time then...now the reverse is happening for my son. His wife is a Dr. (he is an accountant) so because he can work from home 4 days a week EVERYTHING!! is on him. She sits back and delegates, so consequently my blood is still boiling . Linea and Chris are on the right path and young women today are much more astute than I was, that is for sure. Best of luck and kudos to any young woman standing her ground out there!

When my husband and I retired, we bought 15 acres of woods and lived primitive in our pop up camper for two years. Loved every single minute. We would still be there but my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I’m not as handy with tools and chain saws, etc. as you are. This is the first time I have ever heard someone say that they have the same values as my husband and I. We only want to have a child if we can be around all the time and don’t have to work while raising them. My husband and I became debt free in our 20’s paying off over $235,000 in debt in just 4 years and saved up to pay cash for our home . We will be both be retired by 35 and that is when we are starting a family. I think you and your husband are so smart! There's not much worse than having to leave your newborn baby to go to work. You and your husband will he so blessed to both be able to stay with your baby. What an incredible life you will be offering your child. The only thing you will have to pay attention to is taking time for yourselves independently and together, as well as making sure your child gets the opportunity to interact with other little ones if they aren't in daycare. I think they say this starts around 2 or 3 years old, where they actually start interacting with each other in a meaningful way.

I love to hear about your desire to have children one day, and how much Chris wants to be a good Dad. That brought tears to my eyes to hear him say that. Dad's are so necessary in the lives of children. I personally have seen the differences in my own children between the older ones who had a dead-beat dad who abandoned them and the younger ones who have a dad who is present and there for them. The children of the later are so much more emotionally healthier. Even though my second husband and I loved and supported the older children, the pain of rejection from biological dad walking away from them was always there and it showed.

Linnea, I have been a silent watcher for the most part, but I really want to share how comforting I find your videos. Once I found you, I watched from the beginning as you started this adventure and built a life so your soul (and Akela) are fulfilled. I have always had this inner call and pull towards a different way of life than what I was originally raised in. Along the way, I am figuring out what is calling me (and what's not for me) and allowing me to be the best version of myself, in that I found this beautiful nomadic van/bus life. The more I watch your videos, the more I feel like you are a lifelong friend that understands my deepest thoughts and perceptions. Not only that but your delivery of these thoughts in your videos in such an artistry way makes my soul leap for joy. It would truly be a pleasure if one day our paths crossed, even just for a conversation. Van life (or ambulance 🤔) is calling me home.
Thank you for sharing all that you do in these videos. It truly is making a difference for people like me who feel support and accepted in this call of life.

Linnea, you are such a sweet soul. I too struggled with the inner child and not ever wanting to disappoint people and letting negativity get to me when I know better. Someone said something once that has just really stuck with me and helped me get beyond the disapproval or dare I say pesticism. "People are allowed to be wrong about me and my intentions. It's also okay for them to be wrong, especially when they don't really know me; because they don't really know me." So now I just give people permission to be wrong and allow myself the grace to not have to prove anything to them because I know that they are wrong and that's all that matters.
Sending lots of love and a small dose of jealousy that you're in the woods in winter! 🥰

    Linnea,
You and Chris are an inspiration for living simply, after 34 years of working my ass to the bone and suffering 4 heart attacks from making a living to support my home and wife, I was able to finally retire and slow down some and distressing from a couple of occupations. I now have become a inconvenience and hinderance to my wife’s lifestyle that she wants to embark upon, being with her widow friends and gambling (slots mostly)…34 years waisted, when’s I could have been doing something else…like enjoying my life and possibly with someone else. Thank God you two won’t be looking back later in life and saying “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda” !!

This is the first time I have viewed one of your videos. I really enjoyed it! I believe we all have been somewhat trained growing up in society on how to think. The greater majority of people never question what they've learned. From the beginning of life, we are shown so many things by the media on how we should look, be, and live. You couldn't have answered those questions more beautifully with grace and professionalism.
I haven't lived van life yet, but it's in the works as we speak 😃. I wish you both well, and I look forward to watching more of your videos now that I'm a subscriber.

Linnea, it is rare that a content creator would create such a personal video and just put themselves out there. I enjoyed watching very much. I especially empathized with your comments about being in the desert and watching sunrises and sunsets and just the feeling that it gives. For me personally, it causes me to be filled with wonder at the creation that God has given us. But when I heard you talking about it, I remembered a Bible verse in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that states "God has set eternity in the human heart” and that even folks that are "non-religious" as you claim to be, are likewise filled with wonder and amazement at these things. I'm glad you enjoy it, and thrilled at watching your videos showing the fun and adventurous life you are living! I do hope that one day you will also enjoy the thrill of knowing God on a personal level, but that will be between God and you. Stay SAFE!!

Linnea and Chris, i really enjoyed watching your video on Tiny Home Tours. I haven't seen either of your youtube channels before but will enjoy catching up. You commented on nutrition in that video. For next year's harvest produce, I can strongly recommend dehydrating. I started dehydrating in the early 1970s. Much of my annual food consumption is dried goods. Annually, I dehydrate 2 5-gallon buckets of salad greens, so that I have enough to eat greens at every meal. I dehydrate many fruits and veggetables annually, as well as pressure and waterbath canning. I posted a lengthy comment in response to a question asked by a woman named Robin, in the Tiny HOme Tours comment section. She asked about canning so please do find time to browse my response there. Or post response to me and I can answer here. Right now, I just finished dehydrating whole grain brown rice; with black beans in dehydrator now. I will be using these in meal packets along with dried vegetables, herbs and seasonings. It adds so much ease and variety to all winter meals. Between my canned goods and dehydrated goods, I can and have gone for months without going into a grocery store - and complete balanced meals rarely take me more than 5 minutes to heat and sit down to enjoy. i learned alot about dehydrated meals from www.backpackingchef.com/ as well as from Chef Tess Bakeresse blog.

You two are the cutest couple. It's not easy finding a manly man who is ok with accepting your independence, but also willing to help you when you need help.
I am told I'm too independent, and I can't get help with anything, except sometimes when I beg and plead. Yes, I have begged for help lifting things that are too heavy for me because I have a bad back. One of the worst parts is that if you need help, the other person now has control over you and can make you wait hours or even days for that 5 gallon water jug, or that crock pot way up on the shelf.

I definitely think you should write a book about this winter In Wisconsin!
I think y’all would be great parents showing kids the world of travel. Being adopted and having older parents (late 40’s when I was born) had advantages as well as disadvantages! Don’t wait too late to be able to be able to enjoy the kids! Don’t get me wrong my parents were great and loved travel themselves! So my brother and I were fortunate enough to travel the USA growing up! But at times I’m sure they wished they could have done more with us when we were kids!
I got a kitten when she was 5 1/2 weeks old. For almost 20 years it was just Harley and I. It’s been almost 2 years since she has been gone and I still can’t bring myself to get another. I miss her so much. I understand not having a 2nd and not thinking about “but what if”. You’ll know just like one day I hope I get to the point of wanting another.

    Great Q&A
Worrying about what others think has always been an issue for me. Had to be good in school growing up, no trouble, good grades & do all extracurricular activities I could squeeze in. Full time college, full time job & community service in my 20's. It took becoming disabled, turning 50 and losing my younger brother a year later to finally get to the point that others opinions don't matter. Except my parents, I never want to disappoint them.
It's good that you have learned at a younger age, you'll be happier for much longer. Plus, we all have things we would go back and change.
Hugs from me & my silly pup to you & yours.
