Is the ALL NEW 2020 Ford Escape as BAD as you think?

  • The 2020 Escape is here and there have been some big changes. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-3 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It's exterior has all new sheet metal, including updated wheels. On the inside there is more room and use of better materials. Did Ford make the right changes to the 2020 Escape?

I hate when the salesmen HAVE to go with you! I have found that I have researched a car/SUV so throughly by the time I drive it - that IF I have a question, they can never answer it. So why are they there?? They should know more about the vehicle than I do if they are selling it!! A bit off topic I know, but just my thoughts....

You bring up such a great point! So many sales people are so under trained.

    • @georgepantoja8576
      @georgepantoja8576 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

That's completely up to the salesman. I've been selling Ford for only 5 months now, used to work for Honda and I know more than a lot of them that have been selling Fords for years. We do get a lot of product knowledge training. You just have to be a car enthusiast to really appreciate those details that a real client will ask you about. But remember, we sales people have a LOT of cars to learn every aspect of them. Sometimes we learn as much as we can. Be fair.

Work in car sales. I rarely if ever go with customers on test drives. I even tell them, I want you to drive it how you normally would and take it on part of your commute to see how it works in your day-to-day. There are times I allow my customers to take a test drive overnight. Living in a small town makes that much easier but still, a good experience works wonders and like you said, most customers have done alot of research and just want to try it alone.

    • @cavlizzy

@@jessewheeler2652 Thank you.. that is awesome. Most of the time I just need help learning how to work certain aspects of a vehicle (they are more complicated now) Months ago I wanted to know how to remove the privacy cover in the back (suv) and put it under the mat... they could NOT figure it out!! Then I wanted to know how to adjust the height of the back hatch (since it can be set lower to not hit your garage door) and... yep, they could NOT show me how. I have more... but those are a few examples. It is frustrating. Basic "working details" are important to buyers. After a few days of the buying process they finally could show me... but I expect them to know then, not days later.

@@cavlizzy I agree 100%! I thoroughly research before going. Often, the sales force talks down to me. I have to bite my lip not to say something. I found one sales guy who knew little about his own brand. I mentioned that I learn a lot from youtube reviews (thanks Joe). He replied 'I don't watch that crap.' Crap? How does he know if he never watches any? I'm pretty sure I knew more about the SUV then he did, lol. They sit around bored when they could learn more about their own vehicles.

I worked as a contractor reflashing the ECUs of these cars as they sat on the lot. MASSIVE issues with body and interior panel fitment. Other contractors were paid by Ford to walk these lots and bang body panels into "proper" fitment with rubber-coated mallets (I shit you not) - worst product launch I've ever witnessed. Not to mention weather stripping on the window peeling off while just sitting there. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. If there was ever a case to avoid buying "first model year of the new generation," this is it. Raiti's instincts are completely correct.

I currently own a 2014 Escape SE with the 2.0 turbo. Today, I needed to get an inspection (PA), so they gave me this very car as a loaner. It too has the 1.5l and the main thing I miss already is that 'grab' you get from the 2.0. Once the turbo kicks on that thing, you know it. The 1.5l is eh... I was surprised to learn that it HAS a turbo because the acceleration is pretty much a smooth ramp up.
One thing I CANNOT agree with you on is the internal sound. The 1.3 is WAY louder inside and my SO agrees. It's not terrible, but it IS noticeable. I find it hard to believe that my 2.0 turbo is somehow less loud than the 3 banger, but there we are.
That said, it does ride less stiff (but retains great handling), has more space laterally, and has a much more visible screen in the center (larger, at least). It seems like Ford is listening to its customer base. I hated, Hated, HATED that the map light had to be turned on by reaching back and to the left (as a driver). The extra space side to side is a definite bonus for the XL set. The SYNC system seems less complicated and certainly has more features that my old 2014 does. They replaced the 'paddle' cruise control to something more familiar and easier to set. More space in the center console is good (I do miss the shifter though), and having both a USB AND a 12v adapter up there is smart.
Still seems a little on the pricey side - especially with a 3 cyl engine. I don't care HOW efficient it is, it's not as smooth and noisier. And don't get me started on start/stop tech. Wake me up when that's backed up with a hybrid motor to get a car started from a stop, ala Prius. I hate that hesitation - thankfully you can turn that crap off.
Will wait for the Plugin version and test drive it, as I have a charging station for my Volt and it won't mind sharing.

"Bad"? Hardly. The new Escape is perfectly positioned to capture the portion of the market for whom a "utility" vehicle means carrying a lot of stuff in a compact package rather than off-roading. The forthcoming Bronco will undoubtedly lean toward the other end of that dimension. The three cylinder 1.5L engine with cylinder deactivation looks to be an interesting design. Competitive in terms of HP with rivals' base engines, the larger individual cylinders combined with a turbocharger suggests relatively strong torque out of a small engine. Add in cylinder deactivation for highway cruising and owners may actually achieve the EPA fuel economy numbers. Further, Ford is offering two other engine options; a NA 2.5L four banger combined with hybrid technology and a 2.0L turbo 4 with over 250 HP. A broad spectrum of choices with several sweet spots.

Right on with the kettle cooked chips! Big fan of the salt and vinegar... Speaking of Escapes, the wife and I just picked up a 2009 Excape XLT V6 and we love it. I really loved it as it was a nearly 10 year old car with just 34,000 miles on it (God bless older lady drivers, lol)... But seriously, that model sche,e of the 2009, I'm a big fan. I never liked how they went for the "futuristic space ship look" with the newer ones. Glad for the entire center console redesign for the 2020. Thanks for the review! Honestly, like the front end better on the 2017- 2018 model but the rest of this is not bad, dash is a definitive improvement. If it had been the 3 cylinder hybrid system, then I would consider it a better vehicle, but just a 3 cylinder keeps bringing up my past memory's of driving a Metro as a porter for a Chevy dealer in the early 90's. Yikes that 3 cylinder was bad. This 3 cylinder sounds and seems to drive better (via your video) than that Metro. Hopefully this Escape has better crash protection than the 2018 and older models. The older Escapes are apparently death traps. Which is sad, cause I tested a 2.0 liter 2017 and still believe it to be the most enjoyable or fun to drive small SUV out of the many others currently available. After testing all of these small SUV's, decided to just buy myself a new sedan a few weeks ago.

First thought, besides how awful the front end is and the hideous interior is that we need to move up to the SEL trim to get the 2.0L engine. Which kills any thought of a budget vehicle that can tow.

The design is so plain? I think the 2019 is way prettier as my aunt has a white SEL. Interior kind of looks like economy car interiors. Just a basic looking SUV but I like the rear end.
I do however like that they went with 3 cylinders I think thats cool. I really liked my 3 cylinders in my 2015 and 2017 Mirage and Mirage G4.
My new 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL has a 1.5L Turbo 4 Cylinder and its pretty peppy. I paid $26,000.00 for a fully loaded SEL with Touring Package and all wheel drive and its really loaded. All the driver safety aids like forward collision and avoidance, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, radar cruise, blind spot warning, auto high beams, plus, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel, mitsubishi connect safety system with crash notification and in car call button, apple car play, heads up display, leather, dual pano roof, power closing mirrors, sliding and reclining rear seats, power driver seat, surround view multi changing cameras with over head and guidelines, 710 watt 9 speaker rockford fosgate sound system, push start and access, led head and tail lights, height adjustable low beam led headlight switch, and so so so much more! I love the SUV and when checking out the competition I liked the looks of the eclipse cross best and it dont look like everything else on the road plus features and price couldnt not be beat as I got $7,000.00 off MSRP as it was almost $33,000.00 to start optioned out and got it for $26,000.00 great deal and 10 year warranty.
