  • Here is my latest project. Its a 1984 Chevy 1/2 ton Suburban Silverado. I am going to look for the build sheet, but it appears to have had silver paint, red rocker stripe and a blue interior!

Years ago I bought a used 1984 chevy suburban diesel 6.2 4X4. One day power steering stopped working and engine sounded funny, balancer spinning really slow. On inspection I saw the balancer had been welded to the crank, it had happened twice before because the crank had keyway cut 180 out. Pulled it removed valve train, flipped it over and put in a new crank.

130hp isn't bad for an old diesel unless you plan on pulling

I tow a 5000lb boat, and I towed a '73 jimmy with trailer (6000lbs?) about 250 miles over hills. I def need more than 130hp. 250hp and 500 torque is the minimum in my book.

My family has a 1989 Chevrolet Suburban, body's a little rusty and the back window is busted out, and the A/C doesn't work anymore, 'cause there's no compressor, but the engine is VERY clean, and the rumbling growl it makes means you don't even need to open the hood to know that it's a V8.

I have an all orig 1984 6.2 liter diesel too. I feel like the blue interior is an addition...it was probably red or grey inside. We love driving ours, and just doing some minor upgrades.

It had a dark blue dash pad! and the plastics were blue as well. The front seat and back seat were mismatched, but both blue. I believe blue was the original interior color.

Nice ride. My 1987 is a HighSierra. I can not find the cord for the block heater. Any ideas?

Any idea what these weigh? I've heard ppl say 3750lbs and others say over 7000lbs?...Like...pretty big difference.

Mine is the heaviest that they made, 4x4 and diesel. Title says 6200 lbs. 2wd 350 blazer w/o the top might weigh 3750, but prob more.

I'm lookin at gettin a 6.2 suburban. Any feedback on the engine. I understand they are not the strongest, but I ain't towing much. Basically reliability is what I want, and fuel economy?

I get 20mpg with the front axle out, and it towed my 6000lb wakeboat through the hills OK. Reliability is pretty good, but I would like to swap the v-belt for a serpentine belt someday. Change the water separator filter yearly. My 700r4 is built for 450 ftlbs, so hopefully no problem there. I am putting at least 10K miles/yr on mine.
