      The website says they get delivery on the 26th, but they already sent in a shipping label for UPS for mine... so I'm hoping they ship it Monday, but who knows... should get it very soon.

      I just checked I got my ups tracking also. Great deal they had that 10% off only $1259

      @@Loveofwheels It's even better than that. No shipping and no tax. Between the preorder discount, lack of tax, and 10% off coupon, it's $350 in savings off the MSRP of $1499.

    Pictures look great, what focal length do you think the lens is the sharpest?

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd say around 90-105mm, but from 50 to 135 it's pretty good and 35 and 150 is quite good for a zoom only the extreme corners are softer a little bit. But this is a preproduction, prototype model so I can only do final judgement once we have a production model.

    Personally, do you think it’s worth the weight over some primes?

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you do a photoshoot where multiply focal lengths required then yes, but if you have a planned photoshoot where you would normally stick to one or max 2 focal lengths then nothing can beat a prime :) So it's quite situational. In a fast paced shoot like this one, or an event, the versatility of the lens wins over it's weight, but if it's a normal portrait photoshoot where I normally use my 85 or 135 only then I prefer the prime not just for the lower weight but also that little extra sharpness and wider aperture

    I got the lens today and did some shooting. I was shocked some images came out washed out with a low contrast. Further testing showed that this lens has a severe veiling glare problem at 70mm and longer. Shooting indoors with a window slightly off the subject and the veiling is all over the frame.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's strange, because we did test it for backlit photos and had no major issues with that, it has some flaring but it's not as bad as the Tamron, and it was quite artistic. But this is something we will look into when we have a final, production version. Thanks for your input.

    • @USGrant21st
      @USGrant21st ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@holdmylenscap7241 when you did a backlit test you didn't expose for the subject, the subject remained dark. When I was shooting indoors with artificial lights, I had a window just outside of the frame with a natural light coming in. I also made a mistake not using a hood. The image was washed out. Then I did a test at the same location and used my hand to shade the stray light and it was very clear that that light significantly impacts the contrast at the longer focal lengths. The hood helps a bit, but it's too short to completely block the light.

    Is it compatible with APSC? Like sony Zv e10? Sorry for asking but the FE mount is confusing even though it says is compa with sony E. Will it work 100% if its compatible or it will not be autofocusing for example?

    Two burning questions for this event shooter: How sharp are the edges of the frame at the wide end when stopped down to f5.6, and how well can it C-AF on a person walking toward the camera in low light? Thinking here of large group portraits and award winners or wedding couples recessing down the aisle. Would really appreciate some input on this lens' suitability for event work.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The corners are fairly sharp wide open already, and gets pretty good around the f5.6 mark. As for the AF, it is on pair with other Samyang lenses, a little slower than a Sony GM would be, but we used the lens to photograph dogs running towards the camera and had quite a lot of keepers (about 70%), so normal walking shouldn't be a problem.

    Hi friend I'm from india my question is, is this lens as sharp as prime lens like sigma 85 1.4 and 35 1.4, should i buy 35-150 or 35 mm and 85 mm plz reply

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it's not. Primes will always be sharper as they are optimised for the one focal length you use. But zooms have the versatility, and they usually pretty sharp too. Both the 35/85 combo and the 35-150 is a good choice. If you prefer a lighter setup and don't mind changing lenses then go for prime, if you want a versatile system then go for the zoom ;)

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. Maybe a reflector, using the natural light available. But on a bright day like this I prefer to find locations where I can play with the shadows.

    I have a question here
    I purchased the lens 3 days ago..
    My comment from the shooting is .. AF is not loosing the eye and keep hunting ..
    I think it is not good for AF like GM glass .. may be i am wrong .. I haven’t tested the tamron version.. but i am not happy at gym shoot where if the dumbbell block the eye for 0.5 second .. it will lock on the elbow and stick to it and no more eye auto focus

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eye AF performance varies on camera bodies and lenses too. Obviously a GM lens will behave better simply because the communication protocol between the lens and camera is optimised by Sony (think of it like they both talk their native language) while with a 3rd party lens it is not as well optimised (like a foreigner who learned the language). We had no problem with the eye AF, but in low light at 150mm due to camera shake the eye AF did not perform as well as it was in brighter conditions or shorter focal lengths.
