How does it compare to the Tamron.
It’s 699$ cheaper
I'm an Icelander with roots from Westman Islands living in Colorado looking for a comfortable inspiration for today's photoshoot. Thank you Taylor for taking me home for a few minutes...so precious to me....btw my mom published a photo book of the island in the early 2000s she loved photography and got me and my brother to love it as well 💞
That’s awesome to hear! I loved my time there. Will for sure be going back now I know how easy it is. Sad it took me until this trip to go. Beautiful place!
I really love Samyang! I have a bunch of their primes and really value them. Unfortunately, I had to return my Samyang 35-150mm.
The Samyang was a good performing lens with two major issues, completely unacceptable lens creep, and poor battery life. If I pointed the lens downward, it felt as if the front element would spill out. I couldn’t do a shoot and keep the focal length consistent at all. Every time I would move the focal length would so easily change.
Got the Tamron a few days later. Kind of the opposite. The zoom ring is tight to where I actually hope it slightly loosens after time. You can tell that you're not just working against the gearing, but also the weather sealing as you hear the whistle of air pumping in and out. I can pick a focal length and it stays there. Very helpful for photography where I'm moving around and I want to keep the same focal length "look". It feels like I can't move as quickly with the zoom ring.
The one job (Bat Mitzvah) I had with the Samyang I took 3 shots of everything I wanted to capture. From a balcony: close up on the girl, girl + rabbi, girl + rabbi + parents in the front row, then finally girl + rabbi + guests. I think with the Tamron I'd be a little more deliberate.
The Samyang KILLLLLED the battery life at the one event I used it at. Like, the Sony batteries are all day batteries for me but after 1,400 shots my battery was dead. The Tamron, after 800 shots, I was still at 70%.
The Tamron is slightly lighter, and slightly thinner but feels smaller due to it's "narrower in the middle" profile. It has a more photography look where as the Samyang (with it's thicker rubber knurled focus ring) has a more cine look.
The buttons on the Tamron are more prominent and easier to find, feel, and press, while on the Samyang the felt a little more flush like they were made to be harder to accidentally press.
The grey on black lettering on the Tamron is much more subtle than the silver on black on the Samyang. The Tamron has a lens cap with a bright and shiny "TAMRON" logo, and the Samyang's lens cap clips on in a way that makes it get stuck on the thin ring of a UV filter. Both got replaced with a simple 3rd party lens cap. I prefer the Tamron, but not significantly.
In the shots I took with it, the Samyang looks prettier. The Samyang looks warmer while the Tamron looks a little clinical in the way Sony's are often criticized for. The Tamron is sharper and I felt more comfortable cropping with it..
Regarding autofocus, this Tamron is a curse in disguise. I have so many more images to cull. I had a sunset engagement shoot at a rocky beach today. Lots of tricky lighting, lots of movement, maybe the shadows and rocks will look like faces/eyes to the AF. Usually, the missed focus images represent a good chunk of a shoot. Those are super easy to cull out. This Tamron has such a high hit factor that I can no longer rely on that.
There was maybe 2 times where I had to refocus on a face.
My Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 has good autofocus, but the Samyang 35-150mm is better. The Tamron 35-150mm is noticeably better than the Samyang.
The Samyang focuses well and fast, but the Tamron is stupid fast. Like, I don't need it to move from it's minimum focus to infinity in like 1/32 of a second. It's cool, but overkill for me. Seriously, it moves in a flash.
That being said, I have an about 5 Samyang primes and all of them have improved with updates. Samyang aggressively updates and improves the firmware of their lenses.
really appreciate the feedback this is really helpful
@@talk2mephotography glad I could help! I am like 12 shoots into the Tamron and it doesn’t disappoint.
Comprehensive. Thank you.
I can assure you, the zoom ring will absolutely NOT loosen up over time with the Tamron. Also, even though this new line of tamron feels solid, i still definitely don't trust the build quality. I'm about to send it in for another repair once i figure out when i can do it timing wise. Using this as my workhorse makes me super weary to be honest. I got it right hwen it was available to order andddd yeah. That's where I'm at personally for now
@@jayare3062 ohh man. Sorry to hear about your Tamron. I’m actually appreciating the stiffness of the zoom. It has been a workhorse for the last three months. I’ve really appreciated it. The only issue I have with it is the flaring performance isn’t really attractive.
It’s been very solid and versatile for me.
finally! happy a solid youtuber that i know is testing this!
Came here for the lens, stayed for all the incredibly good advice. Was really nice to get some insight into how to get into paid travel photography. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Facts! I’ve gotten into A LOT of places because of my Lense size 😂 (along with acting like you belong there😎)
Another awesome video Taylor 🤘🏻, what's your thought on this vs the Tamron one?
I was hoping for a samyang Tamron comparison, I’ve just recently purchased the Tamron 35-150 and love it
just check the RAW files
Those are some cute looking birds!
Regarding the Samyang lenses I always find that the white balance is a bit gravitated towards yellowish tones
What microphone are you using? Lol! Love that!
Does anyone know if this lens is compatible with any teleconverters? or the Tamron version.
Can you recommend a tripod collar for this lens? It’s a little heavy for me to carry everywhere. Well technically, I will still be carrying it, but I’m a hobbyist i’m not used to carrying this heavy of a lens. Is there any tripod collar you can recommend?
Hmm. Is there a similar lens for a Nikon D800. Will have to look.
Wait is this just a Tamron re-badge, or an actual Samyang build? Just heard that Tamron is releasing their 35-150 2-2.8 in native Nikon Z mount 🤗
Hi, did anybody encounter a problem with the zoom ring? Mine is rolling by itself while positioning the camera downwards.
I can't find this lens profile for corrections in Lightroom. Any ideas??
Something everyone fails to mention is that when you zoom out all the air of the barrel is pushed inwards instead of out with a result of dust being gathered inside. Very bad thing for a zoom lens to do.
do you have a link to the filter you used?
Love my copy too
Till what point it is f2 and when it transitions out of f2
Do they make this for canon
How wide is it on my GFX?
My fear with this lens if it can literally break my camera because of its weight, as I have only a viltrox 13mm and doesnt weight this much.
Can someone confirm this works well with Sony a6700?
Hey Taylor. What would you rate the AF performance when it's a high action scene? Your bird photography came closest to my interest point with this lens, but since you had the feel for it, how would you rate the feel-good / satisfaction factor when it comes to the hit rate for those high action shots?
Hit rate is great but depending on what wildlife you’re photographing 150mm might not be long enough
hello sir, I am Indian wedding photographer Chetan Lade I request for please this lens wedding review samiyang 35-150 f2-2.8 lens 🙏
Is a double triple decker actually a 5 decker? Or is it a 6 decker because it’s 2x3?
Pls respond sir at your earliest convenience
Hi. The bloomin’ onions are on the 4th decker
Wait, this isn’t the Tamron? Samyang makes the same range zoom? So very confused.
Yes..like some people have said they basically copied and pasted it..with slight difference in "design"..haha where have you been?..this lens dropped like few months ago hahah
With the small samyang 24 1.8...you would be set....🤔🤔🤔, make me think....
Never owned a Samyang lens before and I was very skeptical about their quality given several not so good comments on this lens, B&H had this lens for $999 and could not pass the offer, got it and initial tests are much better than I expected, IQ is great, very sharp !!! and AF as good as any GM lens I have, I just need to go more often tot he gym to deal with the extra weight , overall. happier than I expected to be .........just a couple of annoying minor items, the barrel and gravity do not get along and the lens cap is a bit tricky to get firmly locked and easily comes apart ....
We need something like this for Canon!
I WISH they would make a Nikon Z series lens!!!
Will it work nicely with the sony a6*** series and the zv e10? Without any drawbacks?
It’ll work but it won’t be a 35-150 on crop.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto thanks, no problem. I love apsc bodies, it will be like 52-225mm
Lenses like these make me wonder what is possible
What drone do you use?
Artlist haha
THIS IS THE PERFECT LENS 😍
but much heavier.
it's really heavy ;)
Poor Canon RF mounts lol
This vs tamron 35-150 we need😬
You have on Tom Calton yt channel
Tamron rip-off..?
So, any new 50/1.4 is a "rip-off" of all the ones that came before?
@@jacques424242 You don't recon they look _very_ similar?
Garbagerat
I don’t mean to be rude
