      It is. I'd say this focal length range is one of the most versatile range out there for almost everything, but it's just the perfect range for portraits.

    I have recently bought this lens and love it. Only one question. You showed a prototype. When I measured how much space is available for the lens collar, you mentioned, it doesn't fit. The S135fe has an 18mm ring and the MC11 has 20 mm. I have only 12mm from where the lens body gets wider up to the orange ring on my A7m4. This means both won't fit.

    It's actually the ending that stood out to me.
    It is heavy.
    It doesn't matter how nice a lens is, if it strains you over time then you won't use it as much.
    As someone who captures a lot for long periods. My lenses are each under a kg which helps.
    So I'll check this out but damn. Then again it makes sense for such a focal length and aperture.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. It is borderline heavy. I think this could be a real tipping point for some people. I didn't found it too straining as long now and then I can just clip it on my backpack and have some rest, but if I'd have to shoot non stop for 1-2 hours with the lens I'd probably feel it. But if you have to shoot 1-2 hours non stop then probably you would not have much time to swap lenses, so the zoom range will come very very handy.

    • @Bensch.Fotografie
      @Bensch.Fotografie ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly my struggle at the moment! Heaviest lens is around 750g right now. Really wanna keep it below 1kg as well, but the focal lenght range paired with 2.0-2.8 just sounds to good to not give it a try :D

    • @paiman_
      @paiman_ ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I have their 24-70mm f2.8 lens and its the heaviest 24-70mm lens on the market by far (1027g) and it just makes me not wanna use it as much even though its a great lens.
      I'm thinking of trading it in for a Tamron 28-75mm G2. I'm willing to sacrifice 4mm on the wide end just to get a smaller & lighter lens that I can feel comfortable with shooing.
      I hope they come out with a smaller & (very) lighter 24-70mm. Mark II version would be really cool. I would by it in a heartbeat.

    Hi, which of these two collars would you recommend for the Samyang?

  • @USGrant21st
    @USGrant21st ปีที่แล้ว

    The video footage is warm as you would expect in such light, but sample pictures are quite cold. I wonder if the coatings on the lens are causing the cold WB.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว

      no it's not. That's just different colour grading between the photos and the video. With the final version we will do an in-depth review where colour accuracy will be tested too.

  • @Bensch.Fotografie
    @Bensch.Fotografie ปีที่แล้ว

    So looking forward to test that one. Really curious if the f2.8 will be sufficient for me specially at the 50-85mm range. The Samyang prime lenses are just so good at 50/85 with the f1.4, gonna be hard for the zoom to get close to that.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it won't be anywhere near as a prime at f1.4 :) f2.8 is 2 stops slower! But in return you get the ability to change focal length any time :)

    • @Bensch.Fotografie
      @Bensch.Fotografie ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@holdmylenscap7241 With longer focal lenghts the difference get's less obvious in my opinion. I doubt that there's many people who will spot the difference straight away between a 135mm portrait taken at f1.8 and one taken at f2.8, if you don't put them next to each other.
      Also in non extreme lighting conditions it's no problem at all for a modern camera to raise the ISO to make up for the 2 stops.
      I am more concerned about the bokeh in wider focal lenghts like 50mm and below. But maybe the versatility makes up for that, specially on travels. We will see :)

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว

      true. I took a photo of our dog with my Olympus 45mm f1.8 on a MFT camera and Alyssa thought it was shot with FF and the new Samyang :)
      I have an 500mm f8 lens, and the Depth of Field is so tiny with that lens like a portrait lens wide open. After a certain focal length wide aperture is a curse, not a bless :)

    24:40 if that plastic there is not calculated to carry the lens it will break in time. Unfortunately both 35-150 lenses on the marker are over 1kg which is the official Sony E mount limit for safety and both do not have tripod leg in their design...

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. For lenses like this a tripod collar is a must. Luckily there is a 3rd party one available, but Samyang should really release their owrn

    • @SimeonKolev
      @SimeonKolev ปีที่แล้ว

      @@holdmylenscap7241 my point was that if there is going to be a lens collar the manufacturer must design it from the beginning because the construction of the lens must survive the stress on that point. Otherwise you are going to brake it in time depending on the amount of stress you put on that part of the lens and how strong the plastic is.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimeonKolev True. The best would be the official support, but since it did not happen for this lens, the third party option is still better than nothing. Unknown & irrelevant? The same thing can be said about you & your stinky comment pal.
      Don't hate on people's hustle.
      If you're into photography gear, there's nothing new under the sun to be objective about. You can see with your own eyes how sharp or not sharp the lens is.
      It's pretty much the same lens as the Tamron's.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They sent the lens to people who care to put in the effort to review a lens. Also if you look at their website those who did the reviews are the ones who are providing marketing material too. I'd trust these unknown and irrelevant TH-camrs better than some "big celebrities" who toy with the lens for a day and then do a video. Also Samyang likes to support creators they believe in, that's why they support unknown and irrelevant TH-camrs to help them get exposure. What a terrible company isn't it?
      Anyway we did our best effort to bring you a preview of the lens, just a prototype version so far, and we will do our best to bring a full in-depth review of the lens later once we have the full version.
      BTW which part of the video you feel is not objective? I would really like to know so in the future we can try to avoid that so we can be more subjective like the well known and relevant TH-camrs are.
