As the original owner of a 2019 crosstrek 6 speed MT with 71,000 miles, I would not buy another Crosstrek. The main reason is, surprisingly, major reliability issues ( power cutting out/jerky acceleration, loud rattling sound when pressing on gas, water collecting inside front doors) and laughable service from Subaru corporate office. First time having so many problems with a new car that required several trips to the dealership for repairs, far worse than the problematic 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon I kept for couple of years. Disappointed with mine but hope none of you face same issues.

I have a Japanese built 2016 Impreza hatch (73K) and have been having many of the same issues. In addition, I’ve had to replace one struts for locking up and 2 strut mounts prematurely. Should’ve stuck with Toyota!

My '15 Crosstrek w/50,000 mi so far has had 3 batteries and 3 sets of tires (set #2 went out of round after leaving it overnight at service dept) along w/ several tech issues. I prob wont buy another thinking of the Mazda or Honda HRV. The car gets fantastic gas mileage unfortunatly now the power windows arent working and it can only be locked from the inside and engine cant be on. I have no patience left when dealing with the dealerships. Everytime I went in for an oil change there was something else that it needed. One time they told me NY state wont pass inspection unless I got new wipers. So I took it elsewhere. That's a whole 'nother story. 😢

Our 2016 Subaru Crosstrek was the FIRST foreign model we ever bought new and financed. We live in SE Michigan on a dirt road (that suffers spring thaw and mush). I can tell you that we loved the car so much, we bought another 2016 when the opportunity presented itself. The cars are amazing in the snow and mud. My wife gets over 30mpg on her 45 mile daily commute in mixed traffic (mostly rural). In the 7 years of ownership of my wife's Crosstrek, the only failure we suffered was the rear wheel bearings (about $900)... we did have one other minor failure of brake switch, but towing and repairs were covered under warranty. Thats it... two issues in over 7 years! Its hard to express how much we love our Subaru Crosstreks and how well they fit our rural, snowbelt, lives. I heartily endorse this model, which btw... will have a refresh in '24 MY... a few vids have surfaced on them.

Just received my 2023 Crosstrek after ordering it 4 weeks ago, which is my 11th Subaru. I am so excited because this is my first car that I have ever ordered directly from the manufacturer. It it is my first CVT vehicle but that wasn't decided with great debate because all my previous Subarus had been manual. I opted for the 2.5 because I wanted the extra power and I also still have my main project/race/show car my 2011 WRX which is manual. I have been neglecting the WRX due to life circumstances but hopefully my itch to bang gears will motivate me to get the WRX 100% running again!

My mom has a 2017 CrossTrek and she loves it, it’s a smooth ride with decent noise insulation. it gets great mileage, attaining 29 ro 31 in Town / City and has gotten up to 35.8 on the highway. On our family’s vacation this summer and even after being loaded with all her and my luggage and stuff for my Niece that my sister sent with her and it was likely 500 plus pounds of chargo in the back and with the rear seats folded, despite the rear suspension being visibly lower from all the weight, it still managed just over 31 MPG Highway, possibly because the increases weight compressing the suspension in the rear of the vehiclez this possibly decreased wind resistant and made it capable of slipping through the air better.. It’s been relable and when she had the 2013 launch versionx which had several issues, they fixed all of them free of charge and she sold it and bought the 2017 one and it’s great. It is missing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as that wasn’t introduced until the 2018 model I believe, it still has a decent infotainment system that still always for controlling music like Pandora and answering and declining calls. I'm thinking of getting one. Either that or the soon to be released redisgned Kiai Seltos or Honda HRV

I've been in a 2018 since brand new and I still love it to this day. I added a hitch to make use of external storage for my bike rack and occasionally a basket that holds my cooler. Added 15" offroad wheels and tires which gets 27.5 mpg and handles great on dirt fire roads. My only regret is that I wish I waited for a manual transmission only because I enjoy driving that more.
I also need to add that the prices really are ridiculous. If you are thinking of getting one, just pay for the sticker price new. Used models with 40k miles haven't gone down in value at all.

Have had our 2023 6MT for a few months now. I absolutely love it. The 1 and only complaint I have is the lack of power it should’ve had. Though this is still a major upgrade from my 2.4L 97 Nissan pick up. But even with the 2.0L it’s still fun to drive. I’ve already taken it through old Durr road and it actually surprised me. I honestly thought it would struggle with the 2.0L but it grabbed and just pulled itself up. Also, it’s a fantastic family car which is what we also needed. Even though I’m the only one that gets to drive it.😁

Way easier to maintain also because of that. Belts are right. There. Even the timing belt on older subies. Single cam non turbo engines. I just did mine AND my wife's. That's what a $500 job a piece? I wouldn't know. Like I said, I did them myself. I'm now redoing head gaskets on an 04 Forester that the timing set pulley pooped causing it to jump time and bend some valves. I don't have a "shop". I’ve been driving a 2023 Crosstrek Premium loaner vehicle for about a week now and I even took it to my local off-road trail and I gotta say the base 2.0 boxer engine with its 152hp feels very surprisingly peppy!! I mean compared to my 2018 Outback with the 2.5 boxer, the Crosstrek feels very light on its feet maybe cuz it is way lighter then my Outback…..but then again I’m the type of person that feels like my Outback is plenty fast enough even with the 2.5 boxer, so in other words it don’t take much power to impress me, but for what it is, I feel like they are plenty powerful…..now when it comes to off-roading I do feel and see the big difference in the better approach and departure angles the Crosstrek has over my Outback…..and I absolutely love the off-road capabilities of my Outback not to mention how completely surprised I’ve been at some of obstacles it was able to clear, yet the Crosstrek feels a little bit more easier to pick a line and just go with it without having to worry about the long wheelbase (specifically the long nose of my Outback) on the other hand, my Outback does feel like a way more Premium vehicle compared to the Crosstrek, not sure if that has to do with my Outback being fully loaded and the Crosstrek being more of a base model, but still you could see and feel the difference in how the Outback just straight out feels more expensive and even classy when compared to the Crosstrek, at the end of the day I feel the 2023 Crosstrek is a great choice even in its last model year, and even the base Crosstrek is an amazing good choice when it comes to small compact vehicles, especially when you think about the incredible standard 8.7 inches of ground clearance, in fact that’s very respectable for any class of vehicle, even for trucks, and it’s also amazing that it comes standard with apple car play/android auto, Subarus symmetrical all wheel drive, xmode and more impressive(when equipped with the CVT) is the standard eyesight system with adaptive cruise control with lane centering, lane departure warning and lane departure assist, frontal impact warning and mitigation plus let’s not forget that very useful back up camera!!! Among your more basic features like power everything(except power seats of course) no matter how you slice it, the 2023 Crosstrek is still a Great buy!! Even with it being the last model year for this current generation of the Crosstrek….did I forget to mention the pretty darn good Fuel Economy? Especially for being A full time awd lifted vehicle? Enough said….

It's the same car as the impreza. My suspicion is that the only reason they wouldn't do this is that they would have so many takers that it would affect their CAFE rating. Even detuned just a little from the WRX would be fine. It's definitely in my top 5, but will probably pass unless they go all in.

I had a base Crosstrek loaner for a day earlier this year (they were chasing dash rattles in my 21 Legacy). The seat adjusts six ways, so no added thigh support for long legs. I looked at Subaru's website and even the power seat on the higher trims only adjusts six way. If I can't tilt the front of the cushion up I usually can't get enough thigh support in a car. In this class I'd probably look at the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30 and Toyota Corolla Cross since they have 8-way and 10-way power seats available. Plus the Crosstrek had 8K miles on it and had tons of rattles all over the interior. I told the service tech when I returned it that I guess copious rattles are just a Subaru thing.

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  ปีที่แล้ว

Unfortunately, when it comes to seats the HR-V is a little worse, you can adjust for better thigh support but no lumbar adjustment. This doesn't have the best interior (by a long shot) but after reviewing 4 in the segment for an upcoming comparison video, I still think it's the best on bad roads and handles remarkably well too. I am surprised by the rattles though, I haven't heard too much of that with the latest gens of subies.

I love my MT 2021. Coming up on 10k miles. I will drive this car until it dies after well maintained life (or until my 1 year old takes it, which ever comes first).
EDIT: I feel I should mention this for anyone considering this car, the infotainment is abismal. I use bluetooth instead of carplay because it will randomly disconnect all the time. The sound is also terrible. I added a 10" sub to fill out the sound but it is still garbage. An entire speaker/headunit replacement is going to happen at some point and then I will be absolutely happy with this car.

I also own a 2021 MT Crosstrek, and I can confirm Everything you just wrote... But all that blurs into the background while I'm seamlessly transitioning from a highway to a backroad AND then doing some not-so-light offroading, then back into city driving all while having a blast rowing through the gears. Only complain would be It needs more torque in 2nd gear while going uphill or up a steep rockroad.

@@victorteran9766 still researching. I would imagine the 1st gen and second gen crosstreks would have different specs and fit for head unit. I have a pioneer sub, kicker speakers , pioneer amplifier , and adapter for the factory head unit. I was confused about how navigation, Sirius , and star link , back up camera etc could be carried on with a new head unit so I kept the factory head unit. I guess it’s all fixable with a new head unit though. I bet the sound of a new head unit would also be better but it sounds great now. The only thing I don’t like is the sub gets a little too much reverb now and then. (Too much thumpa thumpa). Anyone know the solution without turning volume down? Amazon Alexa songs through the car echo device sound the best for some reason, but Apple downloads have to much reverb.

Honestly, just needs a turbo edition. Same with the regular hatch impreza. Even an "eco boost" version or something. I love that kind of "small but utilitarian" design but the thing is a sewing machine in terms of power...

I agree partially, It's hard for it to be thrilling with the numb steering and weak power, although I found the transmission to still be fun considering the usual budget car manuals out there. The 5 spd in the impreza offers better feedback.

I owned a manual of the current gen for a couple of years and it was actually not that enjoyable to own. I’ve owned manuals from several brands for +15 years and I found the Crosstrek the hardest to drive smoothly in 1st and 2nd. Also, because it does not have the infinitely adjustable ratios of the cvt, it’s challenging to find the power band when going uphill. I always felt over or under geared.
      Other than that, great car.

it's cable driven and the stick isnt directly attached to the transmission, that's my understanding anyways. you cant feel the drive line in the shifter. still, it works well.

Very few auto reviewers (virtually none) ever dare to mention anything regarding reliability, so, my complements to you. Reliability is a major concern, considering the complexity of current cars, even with the promise of a warranty (the value of which is debatable, depending on whether the dealer chooses to be cooperative). It's kinda sad that Subaru has, for '24, eliminated both the manual trans and handbrake in the Crosstrek.

Transmission failures, the recurrence of the head gasket issues.. yes, you'd better buy a new one because one with 60K isn't going to last.
