Steve! Thank you so Much for Making this video! It’s the best video available on the subject; and, you showed the easiest way to do one of the Most frustrating jobs I’ve ever had to do... Thanks for the Advice!
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
I struggled for over an hour after watching some "Pro-shop" video and ripped my tube. Got the job done in 15 minutes flat after watching this vid. You're a hecking legend Steve. Thanks from Australia.
Fantabulous idea for holding the stem, and crossing the tire bars behind the center post. Oh how much work this would have saved me in the past! Thanks Steve
Steve to the rescue once again. I almost slipped up on not using beer as the lubricant, since it was right there close at hand. But at the last minute, I remembered and opted for some soapy water mix instead. Thank you, Buddy!
Thank you. You saved me from buying a whole new tire / wheel assy for my dump cart. Three invaluable tips helped me where I failed before I found your video. Vice tool, lubricant and a washer for the valve stem. THANKS!!!
My tire doesn't have a tube and of the 3 videos I watched (only 1 was for a tubeless tire) yours helped me finally get my tire changed! First time I did this so it took me a few more than 2 beers to complete it but you have my respect and appreciation Steve, thank you!!! You are my go to channel for anything small engine related! 👍
Great tips for the guy doing this at home. I wasn't going to watch because I had been disappointed with the content in other videos but yours is much better. Thanks.
Your the best!! I've never commented to anybody on utube until know. You are by far my favorite guy to go to for advice. Buckin Billy is also great but your personality & humor are exceptional. Thanks for all the great advice & instruction. Please keep up the GREAT work.
I dreaded putting a tube in tires and changing tires. In fact, I have had new tires for a snow blower and several years ago I took the wheels off, and as soon as I put the tires and wheels on the driveway, I thought maybe they were ok and put the wheel back on with the old tires. After watching this video I put a tube in a tire on another snowblower and when I got done I told my wife, that was fun. Thanks for the video.
Scissoring the two tire spoon/screwdrivers... genius move! Nicely done, Steve. I'm working on a front tire right now. I don't drink beer, but a root beer or dr pepper may be needed. Off to the tire and vise. Edit: Success! A bit of a challenge, but mission accomplished. Thanks for the tips.
The bench vise and cross over bar technique was GENIUS! you don't know how many videos I watched with people struggling with their feet to stretch the tire over the rim with a screw driver...
Hi Steve, I'm in Melbourne Australia, and have an old Rover Rancher 11Hp each wheel has 2 half rims that bolt together and make this job so much easier.. but I find putting a small amount of air into the tube before inserting it makes it easier to keep the stem in place and also fitting the tube into the tyre. I love your idea of holding the tyre in the vice. Keep up the great informative videos. orh and ... cheers.. hic hic hic.. need another drink of beer.
Having split rims would make this job so much easier, you will find that when you replace your mower you get these awful solid rim things, and do not expect the job to go so easy as this demonstration shows, the old tyre will be really hard due to the sun for a start, and will refuse to come off the rim! Keep your split rims as long as you can! Chris B.
I would like to say a quick thank you. Here in Australia, there are few people willing to help out & impart their knowledge. I have watched a lot of your videos & the overwhelming amount of knowledge that you provide will definitely be of benefit to me with my tools. PS... I also love my beers. Thanks again! Keep doing what you do. Dale Oldham :)
Fantastic tutorial for a noob like me. Thank you Sir. I wish you had video on how to remove then replace the flat tire on a riding lawn mower. Some of us, okay me, are ignorant and need your knowledge!!
I just did this yesterday before watching your video. The only thing I didn't do was the use the vise with the pipe thru the arbor. That would have made it easier. Anyways I thought I would have more trouble installing the tube but I got er done pretty fast. Good video though. Always learn something new from you Steve. Thanks.
Outstanding! With the tip for the makeshift tire mounting machine bench vise setup I will install the tube in this 20x8-8 rear cub cadet tractor tire myself. Good tip with the washer on the stem too!!
Tires exposed to a lot of sunlight will lead to the sidewall cracking. Your physics teacher would be proud. Nice job. Not all sealers work the same, need one for small tires with low speed, unless your lawn tractor will get up to 45 mph.
I always use a zip-tie to hold the valve stem while inflating the tube. Works well and easy to clip off once done. Another excellent video by Steve. Love these videos. 👍
Steve, I've been procrastinating for a yr about installing the tube in my front tire. Now that you've shown me how to do it I'll finally get it done. Thank You
I have struggled for years to get small tires off without destroying the rim, I just tried this and it took 2 minutes, thanks Steve, except it went from a 4 beer job with lots of swearing to a sip of beer lol.
My all-time favorite youtube guy - measures time by beers. After an hour of frustration, made the vise tire changer (and lots of lube) problem solved. Thanks, Steve!
You saved me time and money once again! I easily owe you $1,000 by now from all the money I saved not taking my equipment in for service for the last two years. Thank you for doing what you do, I really mean that. Keep it up!
Hi Steve, Everything you mentioned in the video worked according to plan EXCEPT!!! Putting the tire back on the rim with a crow bar. I tried it, the crowbar slipped and almost knocked me senseless. I’m pretty strong and I tried holding the tire down and against the rim, still the force needed to accomplish stretching the tire would need a second set of hands. Putting the tire on the floor and kneeling on it while I slowly worked it on worked ok but, it wasn’t easy by a long shot. I’m a contractor and nothing seems impossible although this project was uncomfortably close.
Awesome video. Never changed a tire or installed a tire tube in my life - not even on a tricycle. I am the anti-handyman ... but I Followed your video step by step and was able to save myself a good chunk of change and enjoy the fact that I was able to do something that I wasn't sure I could pull off. Hey, even my wife was impressed!
I also thought the washer and cap on the valve stem was genius. For me, it didn’t work. The threads on my plastic stem caps were too weak and the caps kept popping off. What worked for me - my schrader valve puller has a threaded end that fits inside the stem. I pulled the valve, screwed in the tool, and it held great. Great video, helped me a lot!
Jeez, Steve. You helped make that a very easy job. Not that I recommend my approach, but I had run outta beer, but decided to give it a go anyways. 0 beer, no swearing, less than hour for two tires. I’m a fan. Thanks!
Just got through doing this today, needless to say I will be buying a vice Monday. It was a struggle without the setup you made using your vice and the washer tip was something I will be using next time. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks, Steve. 3 years later and I was upset because I don’t have the money for 2 new tires. I’m able to harvest some minimally dry-rotted tires from my wife’s grandfather, buy some tubes, and get my mower back going. I appreciate it!
This video is a life saver. I had 4 of these type tires on a large garden cart. They had all cracked all the way around and were leaking, so I decided to replace them. Went to a local tractor supply store and bought 4 new ones. While standing in line to pay out, the guy behind me asked, "hey, buddy. Have you ever replaced any tires like that?". "No, I replied". He then said, " I've tried that...you better take them to a tire store to get them mounted!!" Your video makes it "do-able"....Thanks!
Did one of these today , got the tyre back on one side , installed tube , then had brain freeze for the other bead but remembered Steve had a video on this . Job done , thanks Steve :-) ( Doing resto on Troy Bilt 17.5 / 42 , been sitting for 12 years . )
Thanks for sharing. The washer on the valve stem is a great tip. Have on multiple occasions had to pull the tube out and start over because it slipped back inside.
I'm electrician and I had some wire Lube that we used to pull wire with I put that on the rubber around rim, that help get it on, just information, thank you so much that double screwdriver or Tire Tool really works good
Just 10 minutes ago I gave up trying to break the bead on the rr tubeless tractor tire. It’s a bit dry but lubed with soap, no go. I tried clamps, even took by barbells with 75# leaning on the bead. Nope! Tried clamps. Ah-ah. I’ll try the screwdrivers, I’ve got big one and pinch bars. I loved the bar in the vise using it to peel the bead off. I’ll give it a go later tonight or in the morning. Got the new tube ready. Great video as usual. Steve, Plymouth, MA
Follow up to previous post. I gave up. Brought it to tire shop. For sure this is contaminated with green slime. Don’t use it guys. Gonna clean it out and put a tube in, like I shouldah.
Well it took me 1 beer to mount tire on the rim. Took the other 5 to put it on lawnmower. I was very careful to not spill beer . Thanks bud have a great day
Thanks for this vid, Steve! I was following another video and after about 35 minutes of getting nowhere, I came back to TH-cam, found your vid and in 10 minutes, I was done! My wheelbarrow tire has a new tube and I am back to work!
Due to age of vid I know you might not see this but I wanted to show some Appreciation. I'm partially blind and had a stroke-many years ago, I'm fine but it left a few issues like balance. So, that said I'm not exactly on the "I'll run down to the hardware store and get a new one' list. Was fighting this tire-actually it was needing airing up several times a month-very slow leak. Finally looked into tubes but, as with many. had issues getting the tread off the rim. I've had to make a few changes-no vice so a piece of hurricane fencing support-the thin steel rids, driven into the ground then using two others to peel the bead off. Now to reverse engineer your method of getting it on-no way am I going to 'pull' that rubber apart by hand to reseat te rim but this gave me a starting point so thank you.
Your tips and tricks helped me greatly. Thank you. It really ticks me off that a supposedly quality product like John Deere would use what has to be the cheapest, poorest quality tires, and have the nerve to charge a fortune for replacements down the line... and that's if they even have them in stock. My local dealer wanted $149.00 wheel and tire (they didn't have just the tire). So good ole' Amazon sent me a tube for $10. You and I put the two together and we're rollin' again.
The tip on setting up a rod in the vice was worth it's weight in gold. I had done a lot of cussing until I stopped and found your video. Thanks, Steve.
Steve, you must have a few more brain cells than me, guess I had more beer than you over time - "" Why didn't I think of that washer on the stem trick "" ?????? Great suggestion !!!!!!!
Yeah the washer is a nice trick. Y'all can leave the washer on until air is in the tube to avoid holding it with the pliers. If you can't find the right size washer, drilling a hole in a coin works. Washer costs more than a penny anyways. lol.
@@whycantthisbeblank I'm not sure how that would work. The reason the washer works to keep the valve stem from retreating back into the rim is because the valve stem cap stops the washer from coming off the stem. You have to remove the valve stem cap to air up the tire, and once you remove the cap, there's nothing holding the washer in place, so the stem can retreat back into the rim.
Thank you Steve for sharing your knowledge. Made a difficult job doable. I especially appreciated the hack where you use a washer on the valve stem to keep the inner tube in position.
At 9:02, he pushes the tire down then pulls it into the rim. This is super important to get the other side of the tire into/under the rim. Like he says a few times in the video, these small tires can be very frustrating to remove and install but following what he does makes it very easy, well maybe not easy but certainly easier. Good job Steve!!
Thank you Steve! First time doing it, and it was easy as pie with your instructions. Didn't have a vise to use, but with a little bit of work i was able to get the tire off, tube in, and tire back on in probably 20 minutes.
Hey Steve a shout out to you and all your great videos you’ve helped me on more than one occasion I really appreciate you thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I used to get lots of flats on my landscape eq. Now, I use green tire slime. I have put slime into every one of my landscape eq tires. I cant remember the last time I had a flat !
Thanks, Steve. This helped me out a lot. Especially the part of mounting the tire on a bar held in a vice. That, and the washer to hold the valve stem in place. Great video!
Your video makes this procedure very easy to do. I did it and my vice is not even attached to anything. It was just sitting on the floor. It helps keep the rim and tire stable.
Another great video. I'm getting ready to put tubes in both front tires on my mower and this really helps. I've seen some video where they don't take the tire half off, they just kind of stuff the tube into the collapsed tire. Seems like a challenge but regardless, thanks again.
What a jerk! Making it look so easy. I fought with four of these little wheels this morning for an entire six-pack. A guy called yesterday says come get my mower give it an oil change new blades Etc and by the way tubes in the front tires. Later a man drops off his front wheels wanting tubes in them. Thanks for the great videos Steve.
I would make sure to check the inside of the tire all the way around. You want to make sure there isn't a nail or thorn sticking through. If there is, you would just be wasting your time and having to patch a brand new tube. You can use a spray bottle with a weak soap/water mixture to find the leak. Also, I would use dish soap for mounting and dismounting and not any kind of petroleum product. It's easier to clean up and it doesn't damage the rubber. And if you don't have a washer you can try to put a little air in the tube first to help keep the stem in the wheel hole. Great video and I like the vise setup. I would have never thought of that.
Today I had to install a new tube in a 5" tire and followed all your directions and all except how to get the tire back on the rim worked fine. After spending an hour standing out in 30 deg. temp. I still could not get it to pop back on. What did work was I set it in place about 1/2 way and stood on it just like trying to break the bead and it popped right in place in about 30 sec.
Man, that washer idea is great. I tried installing one for the first time. Started airing up and it sucked back inside. Problem was, i couldn't deflate it to get it off to get to the stem. I found another trick was to use a locking chuck that clips on the stem when airing up tires. Remove the schrader valve and clip the chuck on there. Without the schrader valve if it sucks back in again all the air will flow out of the tube.

The tip on setting up a rod in the vice was worth it's weight in gold. I had done a lot of cussing until I stopped and found your video. Thanks, Steve.
You're Welcome...
Cool trick with the washer Steve 👍
Thank You...
I partially inflate tube to prevent stem from retreating. It also make it less likely to be pinched when recounting tire on rim.
Great video man. Probably the most real dude on TH-cam. 👍
I appreciate that!
Steve has great explanations and keeps it simple
I try
You are not only a teacher, you are an entertainer as well. Thanks again.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Thank you Steve for sharing your knowledge. Made a difficult job doable. I especially appreciated the hack where you use a washer on the valve stem to keep the inner tube in position.
You're Welcome...
Thank You...
Thank you Steve- I was struggling. Your method worked wonders!!
Great to hear!
This guy is a genius among men!
Thank You...
Awesome Steve! So helpful and I loved the vise tip and the washer on the valve stem!
Great to hear!
Every once in a while you find somebody that knows what he's talking about. Thanks, piece of cake.
You're Welcome...
Excellent video! Approved by an ex- Class A mechanic!☺
Thank you Steve! First time doing it, and it was easy as pie with your instructions. Didn't have a vise to use, but with a little bit of work i was able to get the tire off, tube in, and tire back on in probably 20 minutes.
Fantastic!
This was a great way of placing a tube into a tire. Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Hey Steve a shout out to you and all your great videos you’ve helped me on more than one occasion I really appreciate you thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Rock on!
I used to get lots of flats on my landscape eq. Now, I use green tire slime.
I have put slime into every one of my landscape eq tires.
I cant remember the last time I had a flat
!
Some great info on installing a inner tube in a tubeless tire I have to look around for kind of beer Thanks
No problem 👍
I just did my rear tire using your method. Works great and causes far less swearing!
Right on
Thanks, Steve. This helped me out a lot. Especially the part of mounting the tire on a bar held in a vice. That, and the washer to hold the valve stem in place. Great video!
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Your video makes this procedure very easy to do. I did it and my vice is not even attached to anything. It was just sitting on the floor. It helps keep the rim and tire stable.
Right on...
Another great video. I'm getting ready to put tubes in both front tires on my mower and this really helps. I've seen some video where they don't take the tire half off, they just kind of stuff the tube into the collapsed tire. Seems like a challenge but regardless, thanks again.
This has to be one of the helpful and entertaining how-to videos I've seen! Will definitely check his videos the next time I have a problem.
Thank You...
The washer trick was what I needed. Thanks for the tip

You're Welcome...
Great video mate. Thanks from Australia
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Excellent demonstration. From Melbourne AUSTRALIA 👍🤠
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank You...
Great tips! Washer on the stem and using the vice. Looks like a 1 beer job, lol!
Thanks Steve, adding a tube to small Ariens wheel.
You're Welcome...
Brilliant washer trick
Thank You...
Best video on here on this tire job.
Wow, thanks!
Best video for this yet, thanks Steve!
Glad it was helpful!
