Once upon a time I was in a very dark place in my life and very sad. Then I found The Head and the Heart and they helped pull me back. I love this band for that.
My brother would have turned 65 a few days ago, but he's forever 30. We had a small bridge near house we were raised in. Miss and Love you bro, until we're together again
My friend Drew actually showed me this song. I hate to burden anyone with sadness, but I just got back from his funeral. He was 20. Drew literally always had a bright smile. He introduced himself to everyone, he was really friendly, and he made everyone feel welcomed. He was extremely lively and free-spirited. Every time I hear this song now, I think of the picture Drew posted to his Facebook. It's a picture of him in his hammock next to a waterfall at the lake. His favourite hangout spot. The picture describes him perfectly.
Drew sounds wonderful! But I'm so sorry about your loss, and I know I'm a bit late but I know these things can hurt for lifetimes, so I just hope things are better. It's amazing that these types of artists exists, cos they tell you so much about people.
I first heard this 1 year and 2 weeks ago, and wanted my younger brother to hear it but he never got to cos 2 weeks later he suddenly passed away at 42 years of age. He had been a white water rafting guide in New Zealand, Australia, Austria, Norway, Iceland and Canada. He loved North America and used to talk about the Whisky Rivers. He had been on the Kicking Horse in BC for 2 years, and just a month before he died had just returned to from a road trip through Arizona and Utah. My husband, daughter and I took a road trip through California in March/April this year for John, next time we'll go to Oklahoma and all the other places John loved, up in Canada too. Anyway, we played this song at his funeral in New Zealand, it is bittersweet, a beautiful soul searching testament to life. Parts of it are so celebratory, some are so wise and grounded. So now we are one year on and I still can't get enough of this song, it is for my brother John. Thank you The Head and The Heart. The picture shows my daughter at Sausalito across the bay from San Francisco. For John, RIP little brother.
I really respected your comment. Music is a balm for the soul when one is grieving. I could not have made it through after my 6 weeks old son died had it not been for music.
Your comment absolutely touched my heart. You seem like a wonderful sister. I'm sorry for your loss. This song is a beautiful way to remember him by. I agree, Thank you The Head and the Heart!
Pouring out your heart...just as we sometimes do through music. You honor your brother with your emotional words that describe your love and admiration for him. Devotion so plain to see! And he KNOWS...believe it!
If asked to describe The Head & The Heart in one word: Haunting. And I mean that with the greatest respect and admiration. It's music that reaches into the soul and gives it a shake. Great band. I wish nothing but the best for them.
Ten years later- but that’s absolutely it. Them, Lord Huron, and of Monsters and Men all have this haunting sound to me that feels like it’s pairing music, nature, and emotion perfectly.
@@solvemproblerstudios5889 So I went to Sound on Sound CT, and let me say this, you are correct. I still can't believe I got to witness one of my first favorite indie folk bands that got me to change my whole music perspective. They have haunted my soul so deep that hearing this live made me internally grateful for a lot of things.
@@solvemproblerstudios5889 definitely was, hands down one of my best festivals yet. But those other artists that you mentioned, I have included them in my “possible lineup” for next year. Along with Arcade Fire, James Bay, Tom Odell, Passenger, First Aid Kit, The War on Drugs… but this is my fantasy lineup lol
I'm originally from a small farming town in the Willamette Valley, and this song speaks so deeply to me. Almost lyric-for-lyric it matches my experience of being away from home. I'm the first person in my family to go to college, but being away from them and away from my community I've come to feel that I made a mistake all those years ago when I decided to leave behind a way of life my family has maintained for over a century now. We came to the Valley so long ago, and we haven't left. I grew up five minutes from the homestead my ancestors came to near the end of the 19th century. I know the back-breaking nature of farm work, having done it all my life, and I can't help but feel that there's more honesty and dignity to that than sitting at a desk and writing yet another essay of minimal import. Being a slave to an age-old trade is not such a bad fate, not really, not if it means a sense of fulfillment at the end of one's day and days. I'm living in the UK right now, and everyone tells me that I ought to embrace traveling, embrace seeing the world, but, as the song says, there might be all these places I've never been to, but its home, only home, that I can think about. I want to go back down in the Valley, back to where I started. That's where I want to be hiding for the rest of my life.
Gretchen O Thank you for your kind words. I'm home for winter break right now, so for a time I've found happiness again. It snowed the day after I returned, which is a rare occurrence here. It felt like my lovely Valley was welcoming me back.

My grandfather died two days ago, and this song really hits me. I moved many states away and miss home. As much as I like it here, where my family is and where I grew up is still home.
3/16/15 at 1 pm my friend named Dawson lost his battle with cancer today this is the song i have turned to cope I didn't even know him that well but I could tell that he touched all the life's he came in contact with. he is in a better place now he was 17 thank you
There are these two guys in my youth group who play guitar and they play this song every retreat. I finally googled it and as I’m singing along to the chorus, I realize that I’ve never heard this whole song; just bits and pieces as we stare into the night sky at 2 am, it feels like home. It feels like community and love and rest.
"Lord have mercy on our rough and rowdy ways. Amen." Thank-you The Head and the Heart !! Your music is pleasant. Your music is true.....Take care......
I’m 12 so this was made when I was only two, my mom loved head and the heart which made me love it then my dad being the best dad he is took me to a head and the heart concert we drove for 4 hours and I had to miss school for it. He passed away about 4 days before this school year started and I haven’t even thought about this band for a few years but just litsening to the songs make me feel happy and comfortable like I’m with him, I just miss him so much and this is really comforting
This song during quarantine, feeling like a shell of a person without all my friends and not being able to go to the places you'd normally find me hiding... hits different
I'll be moving back to Oregon in May from Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati, Ohio and this has become my song for my return. Me and my gal have a long trip across this mighty country to live a better life. This is my anthem
I always used to wonder why all of the greatest musicians, and the most beautiful, meaningful songs were unheard of. Until I heard this song, I didn't realize that it was this way so every now and then, we'd stumble upon another beautiful masterpiece. You'd run across a song, and all of the lyrics could relate to you, and they'd all mean something. This is one of those amazing songs.
I cannot even begin to express the friggin joy and satisfaction that has come over me after just finding this song after hearing it for the first time since 2011, because there aren't enough words to describe..I forgot the name of the band and the song. I was on Pandora listening to the Of Monsters And Men station, and after two songs, BAM, I'm hit with this beautiful soul soothing music from a group of fuckin talented beings! i can die at peace
i saw these guys live once and if you ever get the chance, please go. their music will touch you in ways that no other music can. this is what should be classified as "music," not that nicki minaj girl. the atmosphere they create along with their fans is totally unforgettable and life-changing. it will send chills down your entire body and move your soul. just seriously, go see them live. it is well worth it x
Ben, so sorry for your loss.Only the good die young. 2007 good friend of mine lost his son about same age and very much like your described your friend. Coming to his funeral from Atlanta down an old back road I saw this hand written sign on white poster board stuck on a stick in this field in the middle of no where and on it was written,"I'll try". Just "I'll try" but I think looking back they were very profound words. Ben, he will always be with you. Remember to try to be the kind of person his life let you know it is possible to be . . .if you try. It has become a goal of mine because of that sign.
Oh man I remember listening to Pandora when I was like 12 maybe and I loved this song. 4 years later I completely forgot about it. And then it popped back in my head and I had to search it up but I could only remember one line.
This song almost defines my life... For all the young folks, hipsters, etc... this song connects to REAL hardship in life..starting over and screwing up as a cycle in life..... as a part of you.... Wanting something simple and to just start over...
Man this song. I am part of this joiner ski race team and I listen to this on my way to practice I few times and this make me think of it. The word and music this song is just amazing
my brother passed away less then a month ago and i just had a breakdown and said to my dead brother show me your still here And this song along with 2 others popped up randomly and showed me hes here watching over me
So sorry for your loss. My father was my best friend. I lost him a few years ago and I had a similar experience. Thinking to myself that I just didn't know how to go on without him and immediately after hearing See You Again by Wiz Khalifa.
Andrea simon my brother David Dillehey did too. He passed away September 29th 2019. This song makes smile and gives me closure to me missing him so much 💘
When I feel really depressed, frustrated and feeling deep sadness I will always remember this song. I will keep playing it until I feel better. And it works.
This is the song that plays in my head when I return home to be with my family and friends. It's that sort of special which you can't describe but only feel.
2009 i saw you live as a chaperone for a kids camp, you opened and everyone was waiting for the head liner. You made my night, true music. No other way to describe such bliss.
Listened to this song well over 1000x in the past 4 years, and yet it still hasn't gotten old. Something about it just speaks to my tired but love-filled soul.
E aqui tem se tornando o meu lugar de refúgio, o lugar onde "você vai me encontrar, me escondendo". obrigada por tudo the head and the heart, pra sempre!
Usually came back after these years, their first album was the best for me, it’s so pure and gorgeous, the new stuff was cool, but this is what really brings tears in my eyes, and touch my heart so deep inside, remember the first time I heard this on TH-cam, I was shocked, this is the sound that I never heard before, it’s so special and beautiful, yeah I know, peoples always change, I’ve always told myself they just lost their heart and they will find it back someday, but for the first time I heard their new album, I just know that they will not back to that tune again, now the only thing that I can do is came back by my own and reminded me how good they were, the true music, because that’s what my favorite THATH, and it will always be.❤️
thank you Pandora for introducing me to this band..so grateful for the voice, the lyrics, the band. it's more than just sound, the impressions this song leaves behind are truly magnificent there aren't many bands or songs that can achieve this effect--gregory alan isakov and lord huron are two others who have this ability.
Today is the first time I have heard of this band. Accidentally clicked on Rivers & Roads when looking for another song...been listening to their songs for hours now. So amazing, I am in love. Wowzers- you have a new fan
I love how the song takes a soulful, elegiac turn around the 1:50 mark before pulling out all the stops at 2:50 and then doing it all over it again at 4:12. Fantastic tune.

3/16/15 at 1 pm my friend named Dawson lost his battle with cancer today this is the song i have turned to cope I didn't even know him that well but I could tell that he touched all the life's he came in contact with. he is in a better place now he was 17 thank you
I asked in a random ptsd group for music that helps other sufferers and got recommended this. It definitely touches the heart.
Pandora brought me to this band. Music for the soul. This is just another good one. Love it!
feels like healing, hope, calmness and comfort
There are these two guys in my youth group who play guitar and they play this song every retreat. I finally googled it and as I’m singing along to the chorus, I realize that I’ve never heard this whole song; just bits and pieces as we stare into the night sky at 2 am, it feels like home. It feels like community and love and rest.
"Lord have mercy on our rough and rowdy ways. Amen." Thank-you The Head and the Heart !! Your music is pleasant. Your music is true.....Take care......
That line gets me every time.
My friend showed me this song...he died in march...I listen to it now like a message. God I miss him. Glad to have music. I'd break without it
I’m 12 so this was made when I was only two, my mom loved head and the heart which made me love it then my dad being the best dad he is took me to a head and the heart concert we drove for 4 hours and I had to miss school for it.
He passed away about 4 days before this school year started and I haven’t even thought about this band for a few years but just litsening to the songs make me feel happy and comfortable like I’m with him, I just miss him so much and this is really comforting
Hope you’re doin ok at 14
This song during quarantine, feeling like a shell of a person without all my friends and not being able to go to the places you'd normally find me hiding... hits different
So Glad this band popped up on Pandora. Great fan of Mumford and Sons. I would say these guys are right up there.
the good doctor brought me here. such a beautiful song!
I'll be moving back to Oregon in May from Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati, Ohio and this has become my song for my return. Me and my gal have a long trip across this mighty country to live a better life. This is my anthem
I woke up to feet suffering from hypothermia. I nursed my back to good & this song found me. Amen to That.
The entire album is a masterpiece. I just discovered them a month ago. Buy the album every song is great.
Read an article in the Atlantic - came here to see/hear for myself. Worth the trip. Great band.
This song makes me cry.. I don't know why but I just lost my grandma and my dog may they fly above in
It’s so beautiful that it brings tears to the eyes gives me chills and makes my body grove
This brings back that wistful feeling of nostalgia ... that longing for a time that is passed and gone forever.
This song really, truly is a masterpiece.
Dedicated this song to my grandfather, whiskey man who forever live in the valleys of my home Coeur d'Alene, love you GPB
This is one of those amazing songs.
dude we had this song at my uncle's funeral and we cryed for a long time all are tear's would fill up a giant bucket
The piano really puts this song together
This band is the real deal...Head, Heart, and Soul. Thanks, all.
😄 Happy for ya.
Back here after rewatching Beaver Falls on All4. Here's to the good old days 👍
I could listen to this 1,000 times.
+Chris Hoover just listen to it over and over and over again
I wrote a novel while listening to this song on repeat. Took me 2 months. No idea how many time I heard it.

heard this song get played by a group of musicians on a cruise i went on in August. such a good song
i saw these guys live once and if you ever get the chance, please go. their music will touch you in ways that no other music can. this is what should be classified as "music," not that nicki minaj girl. the atmosphere they create along with their fans is totally unforgettable and life-changing. it will send chills down your entire body and move your soul. just seriously, go see them live. it is well worth it x
Holy shiznit that was awesome! Can't wait to see you guys in St. Louis!!!
The greatest band in the world.
ummm... ever heard of metallica?
everything about music is subjective based on emotions, past experience and memories so relax dude :D
..
What a roller coaster ride of a song.
I also have never been to any of those places, and often hide in rivers of whiskey. Love this song, love their work..see them live, it's worth it.
I have heard these guys and Mumford & Sons back to back on Siriusxm the spectrum ...always makes my day!
It has become a goal of mine because of that sign.
this was very inspirational, I hope all is well!
I f**kinnnnnnn LOVE ...… THIS BAND . Protect them at all cost 😩
This song speaks to my soul in a way I can't (and doubt that I'll ever be able to) explain.
Get a band, get a song, get a gig, get an audience, you got me too. Love it.
Because of The Good Doctor serie I'm here. Best serie, best song ❤
Lord have mercy on my rough and rowdy ways.
Heard part of this song while watching The Good Doctor. Had to hear the whole song. Amazing! On my way to buy all their albums.
This could possibly be the best young starting out band video ever ....!!! I could watch 1000 times and not be tired of it !!!!
'These are the places you will find me hiding, these are the places I will always go...' 💜
this song makes me want to cuddle with someone and go somewhere far away with my friends, have fun and enjoy life.
Hmmm yeah
real
I was in a very dark place about 7 years ago, felt nothing...then I heard this song,it touched my soul & brought something back to me.
Oh man I remember listening to Pandora when I was like 12 maybe and I loved this song. 4 years later I completely forgot about it. And then it popped back in my head and I had to search it up but I could only remember one line.
Lava Dad and what line was that ?
Yea what line
This song has my head and the heart ❤️
I came for The Good Doctor. Great song, i love it!!
This song just feels like sunshine.
These fellas don't know what hard work is by the lyrics of this song.
Am I the only one who listened to this the first time and is almost brought to tears?
I don't care what anyone says this band had its time and they were great!
This song almost defines my life... For all the young folks, hipsters, etc... this song connects to REAL hardship in life..starting over and screwing up as a cycle in life..... as a part of you.... Wanting something simple and to just start over...
Brandon Allen this resonates.
Man this song. I am part of this joiner ski race team and I listen to this on my way to practice I few times and this make me think of it. The word and music this song is just amazing
Come back I need you, please
I am coming back
Come back again I need you again 😢
You will never guess this.
my brother passed away less then a month ago and i just had a breakdown and said to my dead brother show me your still here
And this song along with 2 others popped up randomly and showed me hes here watching over me
So sorry for your loss.
This song makes smile and gives me closure to me missing him so much 💘
My brother gives me often signs too. It’s very bizarre and beautiful ❤️

When I feel really depressed, frustrated and feeling deep sadness I will always remember this song. I will keep playing it until I feel better. And it works.
I was so happy to hear this song on American Idol last night! I love this song and love THATH, glad many more will now know their music!!
Why do I love this song so much. I've been playing it everyday non stop for 3 weeks now
Saw them in Nashville last year. Followed up by Edward Sharp. Great times.
This is the song that plays in my head when I return home to be with my family and friends. It's that sort of special which you can't describe but only feel.
It's hard not to love The Head and the Heart's feel good sound
2009 i saw you live as a chaperone for a kids camp, you opened and everyone was waiting for the head liner. You made my night, true music. No other way to describe such bliss.
I really like this band. This, and rivers and roads are my favorite songs off their album. Great music and looking forward to more of their music
Listened to this song well over 1000x in the past 4 years, and yet it still hasn't gotten old. Something about it just speaks to my tired but love-filled soul.
obrigada por tudo the head and the heart, pra sempre!
Encontrei uma Brasileira (o) aqui, sinto o mesmo, bela música...
Usually came back after these years, their first album was the best for me, it’s so pure and gorgeous, the new stuff was cool, but this is what really brings tears in my eyes, and touch my heart so deep inside, remember the first time I heard this on TH-cam, I was shocked, this is the sound that I never heard before, it’s so special and beautiful, yeah I know, peoples always change, I’ve always told myself they just lost their heart and they will find it back someday, but for the first time I heard their new album, I just know that they will not back to that tune again, now the only thing that I can do is came back by my own and reminded me how good they were, the true music, because that’s what my favorite THATH, and it will always be.❤️
One of the best songs I've ever heard...
Too many things to list about how amazing the lyrics, build-up, and video are. I simply love this.
thank you Pandora for introducing me to this band..so grateful for the voice, the lyrics, the band. it's more than just sound, the impressions this song leaves behind are truly magnificent there aren't many bands or songs that can achieve this effect--gregory alan isakov and lord huron are two others who have this ability.
Heard this song playing in 'the good doctor' now addicted to it !!! While sleeping and kept it as alarm tone.
about to see them live in 1 hour and i'm about to cry from happiness
Carlina Tavarez that is an amazing feeling
How did it go?
I heard this on American Idol and Googled as many of the lyrics as I could pick out. Glad I found it! :D
Underrated band!
Amazing the emotions real musicians playing their own music can convey.
I'm not from Brazil but please come to Brazil.
+Zebra Gameplays I met 2 Brazilian in plane about 6 months ago and they are so friendly :)

Soh vem o Brasil merece. Thanks.
