For all you gals that believe you don’t need a man or men, this shows that you most certainly, DO. U really ought to check out the story of how a town murdered a wretched bully and NO ONE was charged. It makes me have faith in people that stand on business.
In the 80’s in Skidmore Missouri, very small town there was a guy named Ken McElroy, known as a town bully, accused of everything from rape, animal cruelty, theft, arson, but never arrested or jailed …. He was gunned down in broad daylight in the middle of town with about 50 to 60 people around BUT no one saw a thing. I’m in Kansas City not far away, this was all over the news. His murder has never been solved. All those people standing around claimed to not have seen the crime. It’s still an unsolved murder.
HARDY is seriously slept on in mainstream. He’s written countless songs for artists like Morgan Wallen & Florida Georgia line. He’s now in the rock space & isn’t missing a beat! Please keep the Hardy content coming.
One of the BEST lyrics ever written; 🎼 And I might be here forever It ain’t paradise that’s true But it’s a whole hell of a lot better Than the place I sent him to 🎼
Hardy is a very talented artist and song writer. He has written songs for several big name country artists in the past. Lainey is also featured on the song Save Me by Jelly Roll on his first country album
These are two powerhouse artists and performers who teamed up for an even greater performance. Hardy is a talented song writer and Lanie can just belt out the songs. Great reaction
As a DV survivor x 2, wish I had an angel but I wouldn't want someone to spend their life in prison for me. The end of the video has a message when the cameras are on his shackled feet and her free flowing pants. It's the opposite at the beginning of the video...she's trapped in a DV situation and he's a free man. But it switches at the end. Her walking out of a place that one can be "trapped" in shows her freedom. The camera shots of Hardy's feet shows what she had been in. I love that "hidden message".
I appreciate you not wanting us to give our life for your's but that is what we were put on this planet to do. You have one of our ribs and we will protect it at all cost.
I'm also a survivor and checking out that song not only did I destroy my life with drugs my comment is at the top but I've been clean 12 years now and like the song you mentioned. I tried many times to take my own life. God bless you.
Just looked it up and it's spot-on. That's an awesome way to put it. Whereas I love the rhythm of hip-hop, and the complexity of jazz, there is something about the simplicity of emotion in country that no other genre touches. Glad we agree on that. And thank you, I appreciate that.
As someone who discounted rap for a long long time, I have some insights on what you are saying. Each genre has their strengths that they play to and there are obviously outliers (for good or for ill). All genres have their bangers and their hard beats and their party songs, but... I've come to respect rap for what it does and what it can be -- Spoken poetry, the bending of sound and rhyme, differing schemes, multiple entendres. Nothing provides such a fast and loose evolution of the language in such a short amount of time made even more amazing as it is often done over, generally, such a short, simple, and rigid musical accompaniment. Country music has always been the storyteller genre. If you want to tell a fun story, a love story, a heartbreaking story, a story of triumph, or a story of loss... country is the genre that does it best. Nothing beats rap for its rhymical meditation states and linguistic acrobatics. And nothing beats country for its stand-alone pull on the heart.
Well he did seek out and kill the guy. By definition that's first degree murder. Did he do what was right? Absolutely... Does the law protect ultra evil people sometimes due to red tape, of course.
a couple fun call outs in this video/ song ... in the lyrics " by a judge under the seat" ... interestingly there's a revolver made by Taurus called the JUDGE ... .. also in the end of the video .. she's driving hardy's truck to come visit him. - Really glad this song came out when it did... i feel it might be a reminder of what the truth behind mens motives are..
I just read that comment from someone else and didn't catch the firearm. That's wild. And yeah, just in general this is a very powerful, important song. I mess with it heavy.
Man you f*ckin said it! Growing up on country and then falling in love with rap starting in 87 with LL. 80’s 90’s early 2000’s rap painted a perfect picture. Not just rhyming words to make them fit. I didn’t put the connection till later on in life. But yes let me close my eyes and can just see what the song is taking me
I come from a time when it was said: "There is not a jury in the world that would convict". Sadly, the courts today tell the Jury what to do. Hopefully, I truly believe we are fixin' to go back to reality, true justice. Our current time is a great wake-up call...and Americans are responding. I feel the change. God is Good. Lord, please hear our prayers.
Okay, one more! Sorry! Hardy does a collaboration with another guy I really like, Stephen Wilson Jr. The song is Father’s Son. It gets me Every. Damn. Time. Lost my dad last year.
The ability of country ballads to tackle tough subjects is incredible. A couple of others that song remind me of: "Goodbye Earl" by the Dixie Chicks (now the Chicks) "Concrete Angel" by Martina McBride "Sad Little Girl" by John Michael Montgomery. Just to name a few. A great reaction.
Great reaction! You know it's a crying shame at how the abuser has more and better protections than the abused. I liked the play on the video at the end showing the upper body shot where she's walking out FREE and he's walking in wearing the INMATE uniform, then her feet are walking out free and unshackled from her former abuser and his are now shackled for freeing her from him. Hardy sure has a great talent for music and video to back it up. It's also a shame how the leftist media took this song off the airwaves shortly after it came out.
As a woman I was so grateful when a man stood up to protect me. I have also stood up and protected women (and men), while working as a Paramedic. I feel it goes both ways. If I'm the strong one at the moment that can be a protector I will, I also have no problem letting someone stronger than I am protect me.
Decades ago, I was in a tough spot like this. Finally learned it was up to me, and no one but me. Couldn't allow a kind soul to risk his life and freedom for something I had to do for myself. Homeless with a couple of kids for a bit, but safer than we had been.

He only got put in prison because he kicked the door in. Then the death occured while he was committing another crime ie breaking and entering. If she had opened the door for him he might have been able to claim self defense.
@TheBlackSpeed I think that the point of the song is that Hardy's character knew that what he was about to do was going to land him in jail. But he did it anyway, because it was the right thing to do. Near the end of the song, you hear him asking for mercy. But it's not the mercy of the court that he is asking for. It's mercy from the Lord, because in the end, he feels that is the only one he has to answer to.
