i think the crowd cheered on that keychain line bc they didnt know if she was performing the 5min version or the 10min one, and that's the first lyric that differs between the two
i think it also is because generally they'd censor those words on a late night talk show..
I think they'd have to know bc the short film is playing with it...therefore it has to be the 10 min version but idk
@@texasforever9009 not necessarily because the short film is 14 minutes so she clearly cut it down for the 10 minute song. She could’ve cut it down for the 5 minute version too.
Also, the line is not just "Fuck the patriarchy!" for the sake of it. It's all part of the same metaphorical universe as many of the other lines and imagery.
The whole line is "'Fuck the patriarchy' keychain on the ground..." It points to a further example of the gaslighting described throughout the song. His keychain, though it says those words, is performative at best as well as downright deceptive, in that he one million % is the patriarchy in the context of the power dynamics of the relationship, and especially in the context of the song. There are other examples sprinkled throughout. He claims it was never love "never called it what it was", claims the age difference was the only problem, shows false humility to impress her dad, hides cruelty behind "honesty," claims the relationship is unchanged even after "three months in the grave," double crosses her, claims it was nothing, but keeps her scarf and can't get rid of it. He downplays everything but she was there and remembers it all too well.
@@IanHillanthat was a perfect breakdown, thank you for sharing!!
I think there’s a vast difference between ‘she’s the best singer ever’ and ‘she can’t sing’ which is what people who don’t like her usually say. Her vocals have improved immensely from when she was a teenager, and I think her voice now is gorgeous, but her songwriting is always what made her the artist she is. She’s a singer/songwriter with a mega pop star bonus package.
Not unrelated to double standards, I saw Bob Dylan in concert once upon a time and he was barely intelligible, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard his vocals used to criticize his merit as an artist. The fact that women in music are largely expected to be phenomenal vocalists and dancers, as well as desirable is a bummer, and I wonder how many talented artists there are that we have and will never hear from as a result.
So well said! It’s always, “ well, she can’t sing, and she can’t dance”. I’m not talking about this reaction just in general.
exactly 💯
They always use that narrative, and if thats the case, every vocal coach shouldve/wouldve been popular by now, but no, its about her artistry, lyricism, humbleness, and love to her fans that made her famous.
Agreed.
I think of Loretta Lynn who was a charismatic story teller & entertainer. Perhaps not the best singer but she had something.
I personally do not like pitting artists to be "the best" as in there can be only one.
My album collection is huge and has plenty of room for any music that evokes my emotions.
The reaction is not just from the excitement of the line of “fu@k the patriarchy”, it is the exact part of the song that we become aware that she’s going to play the 10 minute version vs the the original album cut. We waited years for the 10 minute version which we got when she re-released Red (Taylor’s Version). It’s a whole thing that just can’t be reduced to a “kinda clever” line.
Was this the first time she played the 10 min version and released the short film?? Bc if not, wouldn't they have to know it's the 10 min version since the short film is playing? I honestly don't know so I'm asking.
@texasforever9009 that’s actually an excellent point. I don’t really know for sure. My guess would be no. But she could have easily done the 5 min version with clips from the short film. She didn’t run the entire short film in this video either. There are several parts cut out. But good point.
It might have been the first time she said fuck.
It wasn’t the first time she played it, she played it during the premiere of the short film but that was with a few fans in attendance and only fancams were taken of it. I believe this might be the first official professionally filmed performance of it.
To be fair, even if the fans knew she was going to perform the 10 minute version (which is most likely they did) it doesn’t really hinder the excitement at finally getting to see it live and performed after all these years of asking for it, also hearing her cuss live on snl and it being the differentiating lyric is a pretty good reason to cheer and be loud. It gets the same sort of response when she did it on the eras tour every night.
But even having said all that, it’s still a great line with meaning so even if people were to cheer just bc of the line… eh 🤷♀️
@ I meant said fuck in a song.
About the keychain line, I think it’s supposed to call the guy out on his performative activism/fake feminism. His keychain says fuck the patriarchy but he’s throwing the keychain at her feet and forcing her to kneel down and pick it up. Which is the opposite of what the keychain is supposed to represent. I do think the line feels a little awkward and the meaning really only shows itself in the short film/music video though. And some of the meaning is pulled away from the line when everybody cheers as if it’s supposed to be something good, when it’s not in this context
Thank you, you said it better than I did but that's how I take it
This is what I wrote but couldn't spit it out as clearly lol
"But is that line saying Jake treated the relationship with patriarchy beliefs and thats a dig at him not seeing her as a fully capable woman who is a powerhouse in music industry and not a woman that is bound at home to only care for the house and give him kids type relationship. Im a newer swiftie btw like yourself, just how i interpret the line."
Exactly - the keychain is him trying to show he’s a feminist but it’s just performative, his actions show the opposite.
I think the cheering is because the audience does agree with “fucking the patriarchy” but because of the meaning of the line in the song it doesn’t come off well.
As a newer Swiftie, I love reading these comments and learning so much more. Sometimes I feel a bit dense that I don’t pick up on some of these things… But you guys are the best! 🫶
yeah, and also the fake feminism bit is him telling her that she should drive because often it's kind of seen as the male thing to do to be the one to drive. so he's doing this performative feminism thing of being like "I let my lady drive" but if you see it, it's still "misogynist" because he's like telling her what to do, and making her do the work, and also he's being rude, because he threw it on the ground at her feet. It's not gentlemanly, and men like that use feminism as an excuse to not have manners and be chivalrous, because they don't understand feminism, they just try to use it to their advantage.
the line is telling a story, it's not just a buzz word line or something.
The line is “you called me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest.” The point is not honesty but that he called to tell her shit that he knew would upset her “in the name of being honest “. Cruelty was the point. He didn’t have to call. They were already broken up.
Music is extremely subjective, though. He took it exactly the way that he described and how it resonated with him. To say that he took a line of music lyrics incorrectly is kinda crazy to me. Let him enjoy the song and interpret it with things of what he’s gone through in his own personal life experiences.
That lyric refers to when Jake called her to tell her he cheated on her again. He wanted to be honest and tell her, but at the same time he also had promised he wouldn't cheat on her again. So it was cruel.
Swifties are the first to acknowledge that, as Taylor herself has said, she’s a songwriter first and a singer second. What annoys us is people dismissing her talent because she doesn’t sing like Kelly Clarkson or Christina or Mariah. There is a difference between “can’t sing” and not being a wildly gifted vocalist. What we object to is society’s habit of expecting perfection out of women in order to gain approval. Taylor doesn’t dance like Beyonce (because literally no one can), and she doesn’t sing like Mariah. Who cares? Mariah can’t write like Taylor. So what? They are ALL still incredibly talented artists. Taylor is an incredible performer who plays instruments many vocalists can’t play. She can sing (watch “Don’t Blame Me”and some of her softer songs where she goes into her higher register). Just because she can’t do it like Mariah does not mean she “can’t” do it well at all. It’s the dismissiveness that irks Swifties. It cracks me up when people dismiss her artistry because “she can’t dance” or “can’t sing” - yet how many male artists are expected to be perfect at everything? How come I don’t hear people complain that Ed Sheeran can’t dance like Beyonce? Or that literally any other male artist “can’t do” this or that to diminish their artistry? It’s a weirdo double standard.
You explained yourself beautifully. Well said.
You hit the nail on the head saying that it's the pen that makes her a special artist. Voice is okay, but man her songs hit home.
She truly can sing (she was sick during this performance) and she’s always very emotive when doing so but her writing will always be her greatest strength. Thanks for this reaction- keep ‘em coming!
P.S. Chemo is sooo good!!
Thank you, AE for your donation and request that made the reaction possible for all of us.❤
I’m sure many have said this, but no Taylor fan tries to put her in a category of the best singers, but when you look at the pop music genre in general, her voice is better than many and she does not use autotune unless it’s for a specific effect. But… We all know we listen to Taylor for her storytelling and songwriting and vulnerability. Thank you so much for all your reactions. I really enjoy them.🫶
Absolutely right. Jake Gyllenhaal is the villain of the piece. And playing 20 year old Taylor is Sadie Sink, best known for Stranger Things.
Somehow she didn’t get sick during Eras, but was during this performance. The line about “its supposed to be fun turning 21” is the birth of the song 22- meaning Jake ruined her 21st so she made turning 22 FUN!
This song makes me think of the situation so many young women have been in. Dating an older guy, first time for so many big feelings and emotions… Getting love bombed, and loving every second of it, then the break up. And the guy makes you think ‘hey… It was no big deal.’ And you’re just thinking… I was there! You said all these things, we had all these amazing moments… How can you just act like it was nothing? You start to doubt yourself. Such a magical way to capture that heartbreak experience.
💯
And because it's new to the younger person they don't realize the pattern or red flags. It feels real. It feels like the real thing. It feels important because they haven't felt that way before and they don't know what they don't know yet.
yes!! He gaslit her so badly that she needed to write a ten minute song repeatedly saying "I was there, I remember it all too well"
I think you can be honest without being cruel, honesty will be hard but it shouldn't be cruel. I used to be ruthless, and I've had to learn how to deliver honesty with love, especially with people whom I care about the most.
The "I Bet You Think About Me" video would be a great follow up. It is also about Jake. The song is featuring Chris Stapleton. Miles Teller plays the groom in the music video. It was from the vault on Red Taylor's Version so recorded more recently.
I honestly don’t think there are real Swifties that think Taylor sings better than people like Arianna or Jennifer Hudson, etc lol. She is however a better singer than this performance.. this is not one of her better ones in my opinion. But there are other live performances that are much better and she’s gotten better with age. Some of the live ones I’d suggest checking out (if you haven’t already) are I Don’t Wanna Live Forever and Cornelia Street live from Paris, Don’t Blame Me on the rep tour and the eras tour, a few of her 1989 performances as well, her BBC live performances, and many of her surprise songs on the eras tour are great especially How Did It End.
Fun fact: Taylor has always thought of herself as a songwriter first. She has shared that she thinks of herself "as a songwriter who gets to sing her own songs". She has even said that if she couldn't sing her own songs, she would do something else like write songs for other people (she's written lots) or even be an author or an english teacher. I agree with you that her writing always shines through. I've been a swiftie since her debut album and the reason has never been for the voice. It's the storytelling and her unique ability to capture a shared and relatable human experience, a moment, and especially an emotion in such a beautifully and efficiently articulated way that makes her so special. She gives us words for feelings when we don't have them ourselves.
Age matters in both cases, for example Harry Styles dating a 32 year old at 17/18 was weird and situations like that aren’t called out enough. This is just the first example that came to mind.
I would like to confess is that I don't really like listening to music. I barely finish other songs, and get impatience. And I agree Taylor is not the best singer but her music is the only one I can listen from start to finish and can listen to her songs for hours. Heard her albums from start to finish. Re-listen it again and again, her music has that imperfection and full of emotions that pull me in.
1. Ha, great Dazed and Confused reference!
2. Taylor definitely isn't a sing to the rooftops, riff all up and down singer, but she is a good technical singer, in terms of precision and accuracy, consistency, emoting, etc.
3. I think they cheered at the patriarchy keychain line bc this was the first time she performed the 10 minute version and that is first line that differs from the original version. It was an exciting time, lol
The line “f*ck the patriarchy” is there for a couple reasons. One it’s another detail to paint the picture, it’s also highlighted some of the contradicting traits of his having a f*ck the patriarchy keychain almost just as a cliche while behaving in a way that didn’t line up with that
Also as someone else mentioned this was right after she re-released Red Taylor’s version which is when she added the 10 minute version of the song. That line wasn’t in the original song so hearing it, the audience knew they were getting the whole 10 minute version song and were happy about that
It's also an inside specific reference for people who knew them.
Yes, it’s his keychain
This is the music video/mini movie that Taylor created and directed for this song.
None of the swifites I know claim that Taylor sings better than those artists you mentioned. I don't think she's got the singing talent of those artists. She openly admits it. She knows that if she weren't performing her own songs, she wouldn't be where she is today. I actually like her voice. She's good enough for me and I like how her voice sounds in her songs. Sounds right to me and I can't imagine another artist giving it the life that she can with her voice. It's got more character for me. I thought most Swifities would admit that and am surprised you've been hearing different.
Thanks AE
She belongs in the category of singer songwriters. She has a nice voice however you don’t go to her songs because of her vocal range, but because of the way she evokes a scene and emotions. As someone who listened to a lot of classic rock growing up, it lines up more with that tradition of singers who write their own music but with less emphasis on flourishes or how high or low they can sing.
This isn’t the best version of this song. She was really flat. :/ In my opinion everyone is a flat on SNL at least a little. The long pond versions and the era tour is proof she can sing.
Thanks for doing this! All in all I loved this performance because like you said it’s so real.
i think if you watch them all in succession - first the lyric video, then the short film and then this performance you kind of get the full picture. the "well" on "all too well" is kinda flat - but i dont think its unexpected cause its in the low range. what i love about this is the fact she gives the looks into the camera which convey emotion which is still there after all this time and it appears like she's speaking straight to jake (knowing he'll probably know about it or see it).
@ 100% right! And I sing a little and all too well is hard is kinda hard to sing in general. Id love to see jakes face watching this 🤣
@ It’s just when people react to Taylor I always want them to hear the best version of that song so they have the best experience and don’t get the wrong impression because that poor woman gets SO much hates it’s really sad.
Yes, please don’t judge her singing off of this performance. She was sick, wasn’t she? Or am I wrong? Feel free to correct me.
Taylor seems to give her all in her relationships. But some guys have apparently just been there for fun and for a notch on their belt. She's learned a lot and is a tougher and less naïve woman these days. But, she seems to still be able to give her all and be fully open and available.
She puts her heart and soul into every performance
Thank you AE for giving us this! Much Love🫶
Taylor and us Swifties know he's not the powerhouse singer some other artists are. I personally enjoy her voice because of the clarity and I can sing along. Other artists that do runs and tricks don't always annunciate, and I can not really sing along with them. Her lyrics and melodies are it for me.
The cheering happened because that line was a part of the new lines. There is a 5 minute and 30 seconds or something original song, and then this 10-minute version. They got excited about that line, as they were the new lines. Also, although it is a "buzz" word, it is apropos. We do live in a patriarchal society, where men reign (or want to reign). And the symbolism within this song, is, in her relationship with this man (Jake), he ruled the relationship. She was the follower, and he made the decisions,
Had to add this... The key chain he threw at her, had the words... "F..k the Patriarchy" on it. Shows Jake's mind set, coming from a wealthy family. But she describes him in another song as very "pretentious". This songs lyrics, that he came back after 3 months in the grave, indicates it was off then on, alot... so, she made it very clear it was over, in her song.... We are Never EVER Getting Back Together. 😅
You should react to this Rock version of that song, from her live 1989 Tour Performance.
We Are Never Getting Back Together... Rock version

I remember in this episode, right after this performance, on Weekend update Colin Jost opened with something like "never break up with Taylor Swift, because she will literally sing about it for ten minutes on national television - and give her the scarf back" 😂 I can't imagine Jake having the best time of his life that weekend
Also, this is kind of a shakey performance vocally but I absolutely love the rage she channels with her facial expressions. I would piss myself if that was aimed at me.
If you haven’t seen her SNL performance of False God, I highly recommend it.
okay now that I'm finished, here's some All Too Well lore! This song used to be super difficult for Taylor to sing live, but because of the fans love for it and how they'd scream out the lyrics when she did play it, she has stated numerous times that the fans changed the meaning of the song for her. Which I just think is super neat. The video playing on the screen was the short film that Taylor wrote and directed to accompany the release of the 10 minute version. It does star Sadie Sink from Stranger Things as well as Dylan O'Brien!
Great reaction. I love seeing you get the goosebumps and how open you are about your own sensativites.
You can fill in a lot of the pieces by watching the actual video: Taylor Swift - All Too Well: The Short Film
But is that line saying Jake treated the relationship with patriarchy beliefs and thats a dig at him not seeing her as a fully capable woman who is a powerhouse in music industry and not a woman that is bound at home to only care for the house and give him kids type relationship. Im a newer swiftie btw like yourself, just how i interpret the line.
love this reaction, going in without context or any background for ATW(10) is crazy and you really really got the authenticity, I think on a live you'd enjoy the grammy performance of the og 5min song, it's on piano and you can tell how emotional she was.
Fellow cancer survivor here!
Also love to listen to Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson sing.
Not much beats Taylor being Taylor. And we can all relate. We have all been there.
I cheer at the line because as a 63 year old woman it resonates with me completely
That keychain line is where it goes from the short version to the 10 min version. That could be whyyy they are cheering
The song was a fan favourite before the “Ten Minute Version” but when she released Red Taylor’s Version that’s when the ten minute song was re,eased and fans went crazy when they heard the additional lines and verses like the “fuck the patriarchy” line. The fans knew for years that originally Taylor had written it but had to cut it down for the album and they were so excited she finally released it on her own.
Yes!! Her writing is incredible. I can listen to her songs and get new meaning every time . Like when I read poetry. I think she’s a decent singer, but her lyrics and the way she is so passionate in her music and performances. ❤❤I think she even has said she’s a songwriter who sings her songs.
It IS about Jake, and he was her "first" if you understand. Then, he discarded her like an old gym sock. It was horrible. She was 19 years old. You can feel her pain, it's so heart-wrenching.
Just got to the bard part, and yes she most definitely would be a bard. Also, most fun class to play as is a barlock
Sadie Sink was indeed on Stranger Things; the background video was released as a short film at various international film festivals. She frequently gets some great people in her videos (most cameos is probably Bad Blood, with You Need To Calm Down second; Bejeweled is another with good actors; and Fortnight, pulling in the Dead Poets Society actors into her Tortured Poets Dept. album. 😀
"How does he feel about hearing this?" We don't care. She no longer cares, though she maybe once did. She's literally said, in interviews, but finally on TTPD in song, the story isn't hers anymore. The song is the legacy.
The incredible thing about Taylor is that she continues to work so hard on her own singing. There is a marked improvement from this performance to the live performances on the Eras Tour of this song. You would think she would just be fine knowing she is super successful and stop working on it. But she constantly works on it and pushes herself.
When you speak of her singing abilities you compare her to powerhouse vocalist but Billie Eilish Sabrina Carpenter Taylor sings just as good you have not listen to enough of her catalog eventually you will start hearing it if you keep up the Taylor Swift reactions
I agree!
This performance is the wrong one to react for the first time. She was sick here.
You really should watch this song when she performed it live on The Eras Tour.
With regard to Taylor's singing ability: the lyrics, the music and her voice always get the story told.
I actually agree with you about taylor’s vocals, I think this performance she sounded particularly strained. She has some great vocal moments though! Perhaps you can check that out. But generally speaking, her writing is her biggest talent ❤
I don’t think anyone, including Taylor herself, thinks she is a better singer than Jennifer Hudson or Lady Gaga or Whitney Houston, etc. She is a songwriter who gets to sing her songs. She’s a lyrical genius and a poet. She sings with so much emotion and has great cadence, but she can’t hit the notes of others who are known mainly for their singing. But, she is my favorite artist by a longshot.
Honestly, we get it. You don’t think Taylor’s all that great singer. And in all seriousness, she is a good singer, but certainly not at the level of some vocalist you mentioned. That’s not her claim to fame.
However, she is a good singer and certainly has her strong points vocally. There is a reason why no one tries to cover most of her songs. They’re actually quite hard to sing. She goes quite high and low vocally. More challenging is the cadence in which she sings She twists her words around the melody in a very challenging way. Her breathing technique has to be perfect for her to stay in time with music, having said that again is she the greatest vocalist, no.
Im not sure many people have tried to claim that she is.
But taken together her well praised songwriting skills, her ability to perform, and her vocal ability in challenging songs, makes her one of the most outstanding artist of our time.
So you don’t have to keep mentioning how you feel about her singing. We’ve heard you say that a few times. You can give that part a rest. I’m not saying you can’t have your opinion, I’m not even disagreeing with it totally. It’s just that you harp on it every time you do a video.
There’s no one who can sing Taylor’s song better than she does… that’s because none of her tracks are “vocal excercises”…. They’re way too personal to her and at the same time so damn personalizable to each one listener… i don’t know how she does it - but she’s a master if it! ❤
Amen to all that
PREACH 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Has anyone suggested “Marjorie” for you to listen to next? About her grandmother, what it’s like realizing you didn’t cherish the moments when she was still around (but she’s still around) 😉
pleeeaaseee react to the all too welll short film
Anyone who said she’s a Jennifer or Ari in terms of a vocalist is delusional (and this is coming from a swiftie who has invested a lot) however this is admittedly also not her best performance either. She hadn’t toured in a while and we were coming off the pandemic so she wasn’t really performing a ton.
I’m still not saying at her best that her vocals are the top of the top, but she sounds stronger when she touring. I’d check out some of her eras tour surprise song acoustic sets. They are very unfiltered and a lot of them show off her voice in a better light than this performance while also getting the emotional venerability that this one has.
Nailed it with my favorite line in the song though. “Casually cruel in the name of being honest” is something I think is almost universally experienced by women who date men at some point.
I will say. Taylor isn’t the world’s best singer. But from when this video was first recorded to now, girl can sing now. Once again, HER songs. But you can tell she’s gotten some coaching done.
And I hope you check out this same song but from the eras tour. Such a difference!
Aaannnddd it’s nice to see you back! And imma have to check out C.H.E.M.O 🖤
You should watch the eras tour performance of this. She is 100% not the best vocalist ever but this is not typical of her.
Now we NEED to see False God live from SNL (the saxophone alone makes the performance the best!!)
It’s a keychain that say F The Patriarchy. She’s just describing the keychain
The “red scarf” was a reference to her losing her virginity, and he was older and played on her emotions.
IVE BEEN WAITING ON THIS LOVE THE REACTION :)
i hope you listen to some live stuff from the eras tour, she’s so good live (she was sick during this)❤
Its not just vocals tho. Its the writing, the passion, the authenticity.
I agree with you... Taylor is a lyrical savant, and most of her music comes to her with her lyrics. No her voice is not equivalent to those singers, but I love her voice, and how she uses her voice, within her vocal range, with her incredible lyrics. I get goosebumps listening to her sing, so many times. You can feel the emotions she is sharing with us her songs. ❤
Ooooo Early Bird!!! I'm excited to be here so quick!
It’s not a buzzed line, it’s a quote of HIS keychain. And they *cheered* because this was the first time any one had ever heard the 10 minute version and that was the first line we hadn’t heard. Honestly I teeter between enjoying reactors and rolling my eyes, because if you don’t dive in fully you’re going to be biased with same biases you had before you ever listened, that she’s writing buzzer lines, teenie bops, hates men, etc.. also why it’s important to have lyrics up because then you’d see “fuck the patriarchy” keychain and maybe catch that she said “and YOU were tossing ME the car keys” showing it was his keys, not hers. It’s not a buzzer line, she’s calling him pretentious and performative, but it’s easier to rest on preconceived notions and comment on that rather than give the line its credit, just like “casually cruel in the name of being honest”, she’s calling him performative but showing you rather than telling you, like a good book.
/it’s easier to rest on preconceived notions and comment on that rather than give the line its credit / ------------- or, you might remember he said going in that he was going in blind, and let him have HIS honest reaction without being judged?
I found it fun that he called her a battle rapper ----- Knox Hill started calling her that on his second or third video reaction to her, as well.
Yes that is Sadie Sink. Yes that is the ATW10 Short Film.
Also, belters rarely write their own songs and songwriters are rarely ever belters. People shouldn’t take offense to hearing that, it’s just the truth. Both are integral to the way we enjoy music.
Yes the video is her short film she produced for the song
Rumor has it she wears Tom Ford Santal Blush. I'm a little embarrassed to know that. 😂
Taylor does sound the same live as she does on her alblums
I love getting any Taylor reactions from you, and I appreciate you giving your honest opinion about her work!
Still watching but YES I agree she is a bard!!!
It’s interesting because when you mentioned that a relationship can go from happy to on the verge of breaking up reminded me of “happiness” by TS. The duality of a relationship
I think... so many (not all) men think it's (a relationship turning) 'happening in the blink of an eye'.
Women (not all) tend to plead for and flirt for and wait for what we need for... a really long time.
This was a hard one b/c she had issues with her earpiece (you can see her motioning to sound for help) and her pitch is off.
Agreed about the 'f the patriarchy' line... b/c it's not A LINE, it's as a commenter explained already, HIS keychain that read it, and it was performative feminism by him... as he literally threw the keys at her (on the ground). Kind of annoying that so many in the crowd didn't get the actual deeper meaning, which is much sadder.
And OMG I'm SO HAPPY you reacted to one of my favorite lines... 'You call me up again just to break me like a promise... So casually cruel in the name of bein honest'. FREAKING UNBELIEVABLY VISCERAL.
And age? Definitely a double standard. But the bigger conversation here is that she was 20 and he was 30. There is no denying the MESSED UP power dynamics there.
This is my favorite song. I do prefer her performance of this song in the Era's Tour movie, though.
We should now watch the ATW short film (that is what this video's background clips were from).
People w/ trauma &/or poor parental examples in their background may end up w/ maladaptive non-verbal communication styles. I'm a person who just turned 50. I have recently-diagnosed CPTSD.(& w/ that, realizing that I raised myself & helped to raise him. Since I was 10 years older than my brother, my parents had me have the birds and bees talk with him. It was pretty cringe. ) I have been actually working on my mental health literally half my life & am still learning how to better understand where the judgement/ criticism = feelings are coming from. Still working on it practically everyday in part w/ my partner going on 25th years. There's no way we'd still be together w/o me going to therapy. Before therapy, my relationships would last only a handful of months. In the relationship that I'm in now, whenever we have difficult conversations, we always communicate ourselves to a resolution. I've only ever had this kind of thing w/ one person. We also are both neurodivergent in different ways. I was diagnosed at 19, he in his late 40s. Since I've always been astounded & confused by the way both of my parents acted toward me & the masks they showed to everyone else, I'd watch people and added up the all the ways people acted & who/what they were acting toward & what everyone's reactions were toward them. I almost got my B.A. in Psychology. I'm now on SSI/ SSD for fibromyalgia. (Pray we figure out this coup & people like me don't have our checks cut off.)
I say all this to say. Show me your trauma & your personality, I will probably be able to help u figure out why u said or did something that went wrong & possibly help u figure out how to work on that issue. I'm still dealing w/ my own stuff or trying to tho. How come it's so much easier to help others? I think it's the reason for so much turmoil and why mental health care accessibility & somehow killing the stigma around therapy & having mental health disorders are such important things to promote. The reason our country is in the mess it's in is that 47 & Elon & potentially their minions had awful parents that exposed them to rotten, archaic ideas, & rarely if ever showed them love, kindness, or true, loving praise. U give those kind of people the kind of money & power they now have access to in a manifest destiny state of mind, what do u expect?
Its sadie sink . you got it! And ur so riight about how EVERYTHING can change in second....

You should watch the actual video that she directed. Also, if this gave you chills, listen to Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve. It’s about John Mayer, but her reflecting back on their reltionship as an adult with life experience.
I love your channel so much. Appreciate you.
Very much appreciate the videos!

Remember, Honesty without Empathy is Cruelty🫶
Yaaaaay! Was missing you on my tl esp the Taylor content. This one is such a good one!!! ❤️🔥 And yupe! The lore is this is about Jake 😂
Oui! Sadie Sink. The video playing in the background was directed by Taylor! It was specifically made for the 10 min version of the song.
I loved Black Doves and love Sam too!
Hearing this after some time, she sounds nasally. Vocally, she is not the best - I agree. I think for me, it's the emotions she evokes, her facial expressions, and her energy. She makes you feeeeeeel! Makes you believe what she's singing.
With honesty, I'm the same way. Just give it straight to me. I'll get over any hurt feelings.
And lol, life ... the communication talk at the end.
Thanks so much! ♡ I type novels 😂🤣 lmao.
I’m insanely distracted by the framed Lord Mesa artwork behind you on the wall. If I knew nothing else about you, the fact you know LM and own his work is enough to tell me you’re cool 😎
Dear John live Speak Now tour is really good performance
3:37 yes it’s Taylor’s short film she made :)
If you didn't write the song or experience what led to the inception of the lyrics, I don't know that you can really assume a curse is present for buzz... it may likely be what was said in the real situation because real people curse. Just my take on it, food for thought. There are clean versions of most songs too for those that want.
First, I ❤ you. Second … not sure if you caught one of the best lines when she says “I’m a soldier who’s returning half her weight”. Absolute chill worthy!
Taylor Swift is a much better singer than she gets credit for by outsiders
Maybe Jake actually had a "fuck the patriarchy " keychain. Isnt it in qoutes in the official lyrics?
Thanks for the reaction to this amazing live Taylor performance. Music is subjective. It just depends upon what the listener finds enjoyable. I can (and do) listen to Taylor's music all day for days at a time. The artists that you named and seemed to deem better, do not register as enjoyable for me. The extra runs and screams that they do drive me nuts. Subjective is the key word.
Love your TS reactions 🎉
Yea I think the context you're missing regarding the way swifties defend taylor's vocals is that swifties are typically defending taylor because the actual issue is that everyone's go-to is to compare her to vocalists the way you do in the vid lol. it's other people who always compare and bring up how much taylor sucks at dancing or singing or performing etc. to the point where it's so fun to see channels like yours exist because it's fun to see people discover the reality of her artistry (flaws included) but it's typically never swifties with other vocalist's names in their mouths claiming Taylor can outsing them - every other fandom brings up taylor and how she's an inferior xyz and the argument I at least make is that she's much better than most people give her credit for or would assume, and that she has trained to perform, sing, and accompany herself in order to excel at her craft. Taylor has never claimed to be a vocalist (those around her that she's worked with including vocal coaches have said she has more range and ability than she typically uses - but she also uses other skills to be a great collaborative performer with her dancers, band and backing vocalists), but it is annoying when every single fandom on the internet pulls clips from bad performances, or just performances where she's not belting or doing anything crazy (since that's not her style) and talk about how she's "not a vocalist" "can't sing" 'who would pay to see this" "just a country girl with autotune" etc.
ANYWAYS hope no one is giving you shit lol, but the context is just that I at least thinks she's more talented than given credit for, and has always been transparent that "I've never been a natural all I do is try try try".
It matters when the woman is 20 and the man is 29
