  • Amazing Spider-Man is a circus daredevil who spends his time doing elaborate tricks with a yoyo. But then suddenly a giant chicken arrived at his house ordering him to surrender all his possessions, Amazing Spider-Man punched the chicken in the face and escaped, but the chicken was not having it and got in a car to chase him.

Alright, I'm at the final weeks of my University work so I am beyond swamped, which is why I've blundered releasing the One X-Cellent Scene video and getting this one out on time. But to make it up to everyone, I'm hoping to get the next video: "Looking Back on Star-Lord and Gamora's Romance" later this week.

He only has more screen time, but his change doesn't feel organic. Raimi's Flash was just a regular bully, Web's Flash is shown first as a psychopath and latter as someone who for some reason cares about Peter.

It’s odd, I always looked at this movie as a science fiction story about relationships, that occasionally gets interrupted by the superhero antics. And though New York is in danger, it feels small. Kind of like MCU Spider-Man but that’s part of the, well, the MCU, while TASM is very much it’s own thing.

Cultural circumstance has shaped a lot of the Spider-men after the Raimi trilogy.
    - Both the Webb and Watts versions have a common critique of "not being Raimi"
    - TASM was only created for Sony keep the rights
    - MCU has Spider-man shaped by when they had the rights. If he was introduced in either Phase 1 or 2, he would be a much different character
    - And the Nostalgia of Raimi's closed universe seems to have made Spider-man interacting with the expanded universe of the MCU seem wrong, with everyone referring to him as "Iron Boy Jr" because he isn't the lone wolf in a world with no other Superheroes
Edit: good points in the comments about the whole “Iron boy jr” argument. I probably should have elaborated a bit more.
The timing of Spider-mans introduction basically dictated that he would have a relationship with Tony. Tony’s at a shifting point for his character, and the introduction of Spider-man at this point created the father-son dynamic that ties into both their arcs. If Spider-man was introduced earlier, he would have a more casual relationship with Tony, as well as growing more, potentially even reaching college age by the time Infinity War was released. This would have allowed Peter to have a more isolated arc that is my centred around Tony. That doesn’t mean to say that what we got was bad, personally, I really connected to the arc of living up to expectations and trying to impress the adults.
This also doesn’t mean that anyone who doesn’t like the way things went is wrong, it’s just their opinion.

    • @spiniks8535
      @spiniks8535 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

I think the common critique on the MCU Spider-Man being "Iron Boy Jr." is kinda valid I guess. The critic comes from his character and story "relying on Iron Man" for two movies already, hence the Iron Boy Jr. comments. I feel that they could've made the stories self-contained while still being in the MCU. Although I understand too why they went with that route as they need to introduce Spidey in the MCU and they can't just have him pop up out of nowhere. And Peter and Tony's relationship makes sense.
As for the Webb series, I feel like they could've been done better. The 1st one was decent but the second one was just mess of different ideas. They could've explored further or focused on the idea of "The Untold Story" they had as a tagline, whatever that is. And yes they feel like a "very commercial movie"? Like it was made for the sake of having a Spidey movie and just for them to keep the rights regardless if it's bad or good?
But I do agree on your points.

Honestly, TASM had a bright future after the first film released and it really could've meet all of its true potential, but of course Sony wanted their success against the MCU and a few other things (Venom film, Sinister Six film, etc) for money and toys. Their shitty use of greed is what killed not one franchise, but another.
This is why I'm glad Spider-Man 4 or TASM3 never happened, because Sony would've fucked it up to be their corporate moneymaker. And I know people aren't huge fans of MCU Spider-Man, but we have to stick with it so we can avoid the people working behind these films getting fucked over the third time. (and don't count ITSV, that was under Sony Animation and they let the team do their damn job and not butt in.)
But Tobey and Andrew never deserved this, especially Andrew.

In this version Spiderman is not a cursed lone ranger or an immature kid eager for compliment but simply a good guy offer to help his neighborhood as much as he capable of. The neighborhood is no longer just victims or hostages needed to be rescue but also the sidekick of spiderman in his journey to save their neighborhood together.

Even with the greed the second film stuffed in. The spiderman and Peter character is still there and thematically the same as the first. He evolves to need Gwen to be the embodiment of hope. As he himself has been left behind before. So her death was soo saddening but also what he needs too to collectively become hope as spiderman. Because that's all he has any more no uncle no parents and no Gwen. He has spiderman and through him he is strong enough to be there for others. This one was on point, it's great how instead of just pointing out that TASM wasn't made purely out of artistic passion and giving a vague thumbs down towards the industry, you went ahead and made an axis to help explain how the movie turned out. Can't resist a good graph.
The differing inspirations of the Spider-man suit are personally really interesting to me. I'd never thought about it, but that's probably a big part of what bugs me about Holland's Spider-man. MCU Spider-man being strongly connected to Iron Man isn't a deal-breaker for me, but it's definitely not as cool when Spider-man can't take full ownership of his image, at least for that first suit.
Anyways, it's amazing you're still pumping out videos at the rate and reliability you are, given your current exposure (compared to other TH-camrs at least, but it's not my place to say how many views is a lot or a little to you), you'll make it one day (unless you don't care about making it infactIdon'tknowanythingIdon'tknowwhyIthinkIcansaythesethings)
It's been great to see you exploring areas outside your comfort(trauma) zone, and even better that there's less walls of text with technical definitions that made clicking on your videos kind of intimidating in the past.

The amazing Spider-Man was good. It’s that sequel that ruined it. It should have been another small story with Peter choosing Gwen over Spider-Man but still being called to saving the day deep down. Then she dies and he loses what was most important to him . Leading to the Spider-Man no more Cliffhanger. But noooooo they wanted to change tones and be s am raimi and mcu Spider-Man in tone which failed cuz Webb is more a character driving director and not story driven like raimi and watts .

    • @robertangus616

I think tat the original plan for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was to have the Green Goblin be the only villain in the film and for the story to focus a lot more time on Peter and Harry's relationship, eventually leading to Harry killing Gwen. From what I found online Webb wanted The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to be about Peter dealing with grief for everyone he lost, he would go to group counselling where he would meet MJ. Webb wanted Venom to be the villain, with the symbiote "comforting" Peter and acting as a metaphor for his unwillingness to tackle the problem directly and move on with his life, the film probably would have ended with Spider-Man defeating Venom and Peter starting to date MJ

I agree MCU SpiderMan is in a larger universe compared to Raimi, he would interact more with other heroes. But look at MCU SpiderMan villians Vulture is created by Iron Man, Mysterio is also created by Iron Man. SpiderMan literally wears a Stark Tech suit, In Far From Home he is given a private jet from Stark with a suit builder. Happy is now the Alfred of SpiderMan. Iron Man influence is too much. Even Ant man is in MCU entire story is exclusive and true to Ant Man mythos, the only mcu elements are Shield, a falcon fight, a ten rings guy. Black Widow in Winter Soldier movie, plays as a helping role or a supportive character to Captain America and plot doesn't revolve around her. Doctor Strange a completely exclusive story.l
In Homecoming and Far From Home plot revolves around Tony Stark, MCU SpiderMan is not in MCU he is rather in A Tony Verse.
With all this SpiderMan looses his relativity with Audience.

He's still relatable. MCU Peter Parker represents a common man's struggle in the grand world of the MCU.
Also, no matter how much help he gets from Stark and his tech, Peter always overcomes the final threat only through his own powers and strengths.
He defeated Vulture in his homemade suit and Mysterio with his Spidey sense. That sums it all up in my opinion. His connections to Stark or SHIELD doesn't matter because at the end, Peter Parker only comes out on top because he is Spider-Man.

@@vikramprasanna8908 I agree with what you said and I respect your thoughts and opinions but I think Homecoming is a solid movie and way better than FFH, despite the Stark connections it felt more close to being a Spider-Man story, albeit not a Peter Parker story.
That's the thing with Homecoming and FFH if we think about it: They focus more on Spidey and the MCU than Peter Parker hence the Stark/SHIELD/Avengers connections. The third film will change that now that Peter is in a personal situation only *he* has to fix w/o anyone's help. But to me, whether or not the films are great or shit, it's subjective, more of an opinion. Using the term "Objectively" sounds like a fact, which again should be more of an opinion.

You are so wrong about “losing the relatability “.
It’s just that you stuck it in your hard head that peter parker relatable point NEEDS to be “oh he has financial problems, struggles with girls and is a classic nerd”. When that’s not even fucking close to it . Spidermans success is cause he can be anyone under the mask. There is *NO* greater and simpler example to that than the Spiderverse movie. It sums it up perfectly.
Yeah I also dislike that the spiderman from MCU has a bit too much “Stark “ in him but I understand it, given the context of their relationship in the universe and all. It makes sense. But fine, lets say its too much and that ruins him to a point.
In the first movie, Peter is just a kid(that can lift a bus) trying to do a solid for the neighborhood. Just being a nice guy and -AS EVERY SINGLE SLIGHTLY TEENAGER- trying to get the attention from the people he respects in order to be acknowledged. Not only that, he focuses too much on proving that he is worthy to other until that has a backlash and he loses the suit.
It’s at that point the character has to be mature and be his best self FOR HIM. Im school, relationships and eventually also as a hero.
      That’s relatable.
Being a teen. Not having a proper guidance all the time and not knowing the correct answer. That’s human.
MCU spiderman does not simply become THE great Hero of the city in 40 minutes like Tobey’s and Garfields(in the sense of expertise and confidence of the latter), hell, he is even ignored by civilians at times in the movie. If you look at any scenario, that would be the most common. One isn’t born a hero, you don’t just become one out of the sudden. You grow into one, just like one grows mature eventually.
In short: just because he got privileged with assistance, it doesn’t mean he lost “relatability “. MCU spiderman is a VERY relatable and human character, especially for teenagers.
That’s what spiderman is about. Not just being a nerd with money problems that uses spandex and is the epitome of heroism from the get go.

That scene where Flash tries to talk to Peter after his uncle died and Peter just grabs him and shoves him into the wall, but even then he still tries to comfort Peter and give him his condolences, that was fucking amazing. That scene with Peter breaking down on the jet with Happy and then building his new suit was also amazing as fuck, and if I had to pick my favorite moment from the Raimi movies that would probably be when Peter convinces Doc Ock to do the right thing with just his words alone. And also the train scene, and I don't think I need to explain why.

I’ve always found Peter’s “where is he" breakdown after the responsibility speech to be kind of off putting. It’s like he’s angry at his father for dying (or so we thought) even though it was through no fault of his own.

    • @marcusmcneal7453
      @marcusmcneal7453 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It’s true to the character though. In the comics young Peter is a very, very angry person. Comic book Peter is almost like a failed villain. He was heading down a very dark path before Uncle Ben died and even years after he’s a very scary person when he’s mad. I love MCU Spidey, but if I have one critique it’s that he’s too nice. Peter always has a mean streak that undercuts his surface personality.

    • @JohnSmith-lt1ck
      @JohnSmith-lt1ck 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I’ve always believed that he was angry because, from his perspective, his father chose to abandon him. It wasn’t about Richard dying; it was about Richard choosing to live a life away from Peter. Peter’s last interactions with his dad were attempts to convince Richard to take him with them.

I love the first Amazing Spider-Man movie, and I was really excited for the second one, but that movie ruined TASM franchise by trying to do way too much. It infuriates me to see all that wasted potential, but then again when I see where they were ultimately trying to go with it I'm kind of glad they screwed it up. Some of their plans for the future were just bonkers. I also hated Peter's obsession with what happened to his parents, and their ties to Oscorp and his father ultimately being the one to breed the spiders using his own DNA, meaning Peter was the only one who even could have been Spider-Man. It's just so stupid. I like it as a completely random event, and in a way it still was in the first movie, but by adding the involvement of Richard Parker it just created a convoluted mess.

I get the same sense of creative compromise due to the legal side of things that you see in TASM, in the MCU Spider-Man films. These movies feel like a desperate attempt from 2 radically different studios attempting to create to most widely marketable version of Spider-Man possible, all the while navigating through a legal landmine trying to not piss the other one off. It ends of feeling (to me anyways) like the most safe and sanitized version of Spider-Man humanly possible. It’s not daring, it’s not taking any risks or challenge its audience.

I liked The Amazing Spiderman from when I first saw it in 2012. I thought it really good. So different from Sam Raimi's Spiderman 1. The tone is more serrious, the style too. I liked(and still do) Andrew Garfield. I see him as Peter Paker/Spiderman more than Tobey Maguire. To me, the Raimi original has too much goofy/campy moments with Norman Osborn's Green Goblin, and I never liked Willem Defoe as Osborn. I also didn't like James Franco's Harrry Osborn. He didn't need to be in it, until Peter got to college(when they met in the main 616 conituity) Whereas Andrew Garfield's Peter doesn't have a best friend to rely on and hang out with. He's a loner,(as in the 616 continuity) and doesn't really know how to talk to girls. Then he meets Gwen. He's different arround her. He fianlly connected with a girl.He has these new spider powers he wants ton use to catch criminals beacuse ben got shot by criminal. It wasn't like in the comic where it was buglar who there to steal Ben and May's stuff, but Peter feels repsponsible. I always like this version of Spiderman more. I don't the like MCU Spiderman. Nothing against Tom Holland, even though he's far younger than Maguire and Garfield to play a teen, its the writing and tone of Homecoming and Far From Home that I didn't care for. I dont' care Sony wanted ASM made to hold on the rights, it's my favorite Spiderman movie, right beside The Amazing Spiderman 2.

He feels more like the comics plus for the first time in film you know Flash has a rough life outside of school because his parents do really pay attention to him as you see in far from home when they came back flash's driver came. Feels more realistic to me. But that's just me.

Raimi and webb's spiderman was great in their own respective way. The way raimi focuses more of peter parker character development to be more relatable and human and gave us more of life lesson like how aunt may and uncle ben taught him while on webb's spidey was more of how they connect each, the way spidey quips just to vent out his anger and sadness and fear when he wears mask, those to spider-man movies has the emotional weight gave us to emphatized the character. And that's mcu spiderman lost it. Mcu spiderman crack cheesy joke every goddamn time just to please younger audience, the movie had no meaning, the homecoming was decent but the far from home was messy and this one was far worst than TASM2.

I didn’t hate the amazing Spider-Man films. They weren’t bad.
The original had the best Peter Parker, the amazing Spider-Man has the best Spider-Man.
U would think that the mcu Spider-Man is in the middle, (great Peter Parker and Spider-Man) but it isn’t. Tom Holland plays the role completely different to how the character has ever been portrayed. He is a child in a big world. That’s his main thing. The next iron man, that’s his purpose within the mcu.
I like this version of Spider-Man the most, but I also like the amazing Spider-Man version, cocky, jokes a lot. But I also like the originals version, where he’s emotional, confused, nerdy.
