Panasonic S5ii Cinematic Video, goodbye Lumix GH6. Panasonic S5ii footage is insane and Panasonic S5ii autofocus is absolutely NUTs… I no longer shoot Lumix GH6 and now only Lumix S5ii because of the Panasonic S5ii autofocus, Panasonic S5ii full frame, and Panasonic S5ii slow motion, it is just too good.

Whats crazy is that I still prefer the Black Magic 4/6K over this, aside from the better features like auto focus and anti shake.. etc, I still prefer to look and feel of Black Magic.
I hate to agree because this S5 MII is incredible, obviously for tons of reasons. I would probably rent it first, and see in post how I could work with the footage. I love the bmpcc's image, for its soft sharpness, and would have a hard time getting away from that quality of video, but on the other hand this camera would be amazing to just pick and go. It would all depend on how to the footage would feel in post. From this video I can tell I would be honestly impressed, but I'm hooked beyond words to the way a cine cam handles color and shape.
one of the best short footage ive seen. pls make more! and with the new software update 3.0 the camera is getting better.
I hate to say this, but this footage from the S5II just looks better, more appealing, vivid, brighter, etc than the GH5 and GH6 footage. 😮
No need to hate to say it haha, it's actually no joke made me 10x more excited to shoot.. haha
It just looks so so crisp and this footage was only mostly 4k..
@@ryanjharris I recall you used some EF glass on MFT, but which L mount glass are you using and are you using the MC-21 adapter?

Currently use an original S5, and I'm so tempted to switch to the S5 ii, but I feel like waiting for the S5 IIX is probably the better call now that it's only two months away.

From what I can tell, it seems like the exact same camera with a firmware upgrade.
Unless you need to live stream directly from a camera, or tether to USB, or record ProRes over USB-C.
Though I do worry that in future firmware updates they could sweeten the deal.

So Ryan you are officially not using the GH5 or GH6 any longer? The only reason I purchased the GH5 is because I found your(and bought your Masterclass) channel, set my GH5 up to your recommendations and have been using it for the last 6 months... just got my S5ii three weeks ago because I badly needed the better AF(and was not heavily invested in M43 glass) now I am glad to see you using it as well and can't wait to see what your future videos are going to be using it. Thanks!

I see footage form the s5ii and x and all the footage I see looks like iPhone quality footage. It does not feel cinematic at all. Feels like cell phone footage shot at 30fps. Not a fan.

Same, if not better (from my eyes so far, not from a side by side test) It looks very natural and super stable - as you can see with the shots in this video, all hand held
@Ryan Harris That's pretty fantastic then. Your upgrade to the s5ii holds more weight to me than most other content creators given how long you've championed the usefulness of the gh5. Even in 2023 that camera still has some of the best image quality and usefullness of any camera I own. I would say in ideal lighting the image looks better than my a7s3 and the original s5, especially in 1080p.
How reliable is the autofocus in your opinion for the snow work you do?

Bro you have to enlighten you settings for the S5 II, I’ve watched many videos and still looking but I’ve followed you through your GH5 days because your image personally looks better.

Ryan - I shoot social media content. If your using eye auto focus then need to focus on an object very fast, can you just tap the screen and itll stick to the object. Ive heard the S5II struggles with this. I ask because thats generally my work experience, one minute I will be filming/photographing a person then quickly I'll need to film/photograph a product or object
Looks like a fantastic camera Ryan. How does it perform in low light situations? Seeing as it's a full frame will it accept the Sigma 18-35?
I haven't tried it in any truly low-light situations yet! I will be doing that this month. I have a hunch it will be pretty awesome though
How is it for travel? I'm looking to pick this up for travel vlogging and cinematography. What lense would you suggest works well and is the most versatile if you could only bring one?

This video makes the GH line look as if it's not worth the investment. Here are questions: Have you tried your gh6 af in comparison to this one? I find it strange that for someone who never used af to make movies, is all of a sudden so converted (i don't find it impossible, just strange), case example: Hollywood movie makers don't even use af, even though they have the cams that do excellent af. Another point is that I believe this machine "could" be better than the Sony FX3, what is your take on that?
I think it´s better than the FX3. And the price difference is huge.

@@ryanjharris ok so you do 60 or 50p and slow down to 24p? I was wondering since the slowmo clips was smooth. I did upscale with my GH5 sometimes but the4K 50 slowed down was more than enough for my use. Just got my S5II and wooow what an upgrade from GH5🙂

I see, so your passion for filmmaking was linked, chained, glued to the gear, not to what you want to say. Of course a new toy is going to create some new illusion, for a while. I'll watched Death and the Maiden, or Duel if they were shot in VHS, go ahead shoot Barbie with the Sony Venice or in 35 mm and I'll pass.

Mostly the kit lens, also a couple shots on the 50mm .1.8 and 35mm 1.8 majority shot in CINE-D and graded

I don't buy it because no full frame 4K60 in 2024 is a joke. We don't need 6K, we don't really need proRes or ginormous file bitrate sizes, we need 10 bit and 4K60 (preferable 4K120) with full sensor readout. And Panasonic color science.

@@ryanjharris I can understand you. But I hope for a GH6 II. Too many excellent mft lenses in my bag: 10-25 1.7, 25-50 1.8, 75 1.8. And i can not see any equivalent to my 12-100 4 travel lens in Full Frame lenses.
