Mr. Skull, loved the video, it's the only one on the entire Internet that I found showing the internal workings of this mechanism. After opening my gear box up, I found a few things to update your video. 1st, the piece you though broke off of your torsion spring was actually the spring which pushes the door latch plunger out. The torsion spring for the lever return is asymmetrical, both arms coming off it are identical. One arm returns the latch handle from the down position and the other from the up. There is an anchor post built into the top plate of the gear box. After searching high and low to find a torsion spring replacement I had to make my own! I am NOT a spring maker but I was able to find .074" music wire aka - stuff springs are made from at the local Ace, $2! Then, I don't have a metal lathe, formed it around a 1/2 copper pipe, finally bending the arms with care on a bench vise. 3 cuts and a blood blister later, I put it all back together and it works, mostly. If any of your views are skilled in making a spring I would love to buy one from them to replace my mediocre one. Thanks again, let me know if you want a picture of the original torsion spring to add to your video.
This took a little time, mostly to refashion a new torsion spring out of a similar wire diameter extension spring, but you saved me $250!!! THANK YOU! 🙂
Do you have one picture of the rivets you drilled out, I do see the one NOT to remove, and think they sell the spring that returns the lever to neutral now on Amazon, my lever doesn't return to horizontal , Question I hope, how did you know what side to drill, looks like the striker is on the outside or facing down, so the door would close from the other side or direction,? So how to determine what side to drill the rivets out from. I going to spot welt the plate back on with just a tack, last Thanks for the video , so well done and only one I found like other people , where did the little 2 parts go or don't you know, Great job and video. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for posting this. I have this same issue. Nearly had a stroke learning Anderson's $200 fix. I wish you took some measurements of that spring. The internet is great a finding suppliers for odd stuff. My repair will have to wait for warmer weather.
I agree with you. I need to make the same repair but cold weather is upon us. Plus, our door is delaminating on the exterior side. We will probably just replace it in the spring. This repair is worth the trouble if the door is in good shape. Shame on Andersen for forcing us into replacing the whole three point lock mechanism instead of making access and parts more accessible.
Thanks for the video I now understand how this works and will be attempting soon. By the way LOVE THE TITLE OF YOUR BOOK. Not much of a reader but this book definitely catches my attention..
Yes I need one too, sound like Anderson has a issue, what a way to make something. Let me know if you have the spring, my lever will not return to neutral or Horizontal

Love your video. My door has been hassling me for quite some time. Didn't feel like paying 200 bucks only.for a broken spring

Now Anderson is charging $350 for that assembly what a joke of a way to build something.

My Anderson three way lock has rust. What do you suggest to use to get rust off
How do I open door if deadbolt is engaged and won't release ?
Having same problem
Anderson says impossible to get it open. Did you get an answer?
Did you pick up on the lever or handle,? I'm sure you know how it works
What size drill did you use to drill out the rivets?
Hey Thanks. I have the same problem. I will contemplate a bit more before attempting your ideas. I just don't feel I want to be a hero.
Anyone need a replacement spring?
30 bucks, delivered.
Still selling the torsion springs? Are they something you make?
I would.
