I cant take this guys Kung Fu seriously, he's not even a fucking panda. Not only that what element does he bend, I didn't see any fire or water or anything, dude was just flapping his arms and shit. He didn't even go super sayan or anything, can he even fly? I doubt it.
"One day when I was training, my master told me, that the sword is an extension of my body, and a reflection of my inner self. But the real sword is not in your hand, but in your heart. If you carry the sword in your heart, no matter what happens, it will guide and protect you on your path to life." This is why Martial Arts will never die out, the wisdom in it is beautiful. It's what attracted me to the Martial Arts and has helped me and taught me so many things in life, and to always strive to learn and better myself, I owe so much to it.
+purpleprinc3 no lie, from the 1st sentence I was bracing myself for a super pervy comment lol. But this is such an inspirational comment and so true, I liked it thanks!
Candace Lin I will share some wisdom and tell you of my master's secret unbeatable technique. It can only be used once, it requires unwavering dedication, incredible stamina and strong legs, pass your jacket/coat to your friend/loved one, gather up all your chi energy and at the top of your lungs scream 'run for your lives' and get the fuck out of there.
+China Uncensored I've spent some time learning a mixed shaolin style kung fu and I'm not sure how well an online school would work for most people. When I was training I found I learned the most from the teacher or more experienced students criticizing and showing me how to the techniques were supposed to be, for example if my posture or an angle was slightly off (even though I thought I had it right). I'm not sure how a person would get the same experience online. Not saying I wouldnt be interested in learning what I could from Master Longfei's online school, I just think technique would be hard to master that way.

The shaolin temple was actually founded by an Indian monk named bodhidharma called bato by the Chinese. He taught a refined version of Indian martial arts for combat purposes to the Chinese which later came to be known as Kung fu
***** These guys won't survive a bar fight. Is laughable and when Mongolians see them move so gentle they laugh and think they are playing. Watch the video of Mongolians vs Kung Fu young Masters. It makes them look like a joke. Pushing somebody back is winning a fight?
There are hundred or thousands of variations. But truth is things like bow, spear etc. was effective. Only in movies you will always see hero with least weapon win the most.
It is sad that many of the Chinese martial arts are scams also. Many of them claim to have been taught from the Shaolin but in reality from whatever association the Shaolin temple comes from some of these "Masters" pay a fee and get a certificate to be Shaolin approved. Many Chinese now a days practice modern Martial Arts versus their traditional stuff.
Benja Freeman if your only goal is to win, you could just shoot someone from a mile away. Your criticism of a thousand year old martial art and religion must be based on ignorance or are you just trolling?
Well obviousely people still can't differenciate between modern wushu and traditional chinese kung fu styles like Hung Gar and even the exact same mantis style shown in the video. It depends on what's someones intention of learning these. In the main Hung Gar line after Grandmasters Wong Fei Hung, Lam Sai Wing and Chiu Kau, which is currently lead by Chiu Chi Ling and will be lead by Martin Sewer afterwards, you learn to fight pretty much immediately, strengthen your body and after that is done you start combining external with internal training. In the end you have to be able to fight and later better control your body and mind while fighting and training new techniques. Thing is that even Hung Gar wasn't ever meant to be used as a sport, but as a means to defend ones life back when it was mandatory to survive after the takeover of the manchus.
i born in china and live in australia,i practise taiji forba long time.when i saw this video,it remind me that how brilliant and wonderful the world is.i love diversity of the world, just like the diiferent taste of food
It's not true that Tai Chi originated as a form of cultivation and only later was applied to martial arts. It was originally for combat, specifically to defend Chen village against bandits. It incorporates qigong movements which are much longer, and were for cultivation, but the forms and practices taught as Tai Chi today have always been martial (until the 20th century, when the Nationalists advocated them as a health practice)
chu ren It's not "only a branch" of Taichi. It's by far the oldest "branch," and the original "branch," the one from which all the other styles branched off. You could even say it's the trunk, and the other styles are the branches.
+Michael Vipperman Not only that, Chen Taijiquan was developed by following the principles of Qigong and the yin and yang, creating the circular movements and the "be weak against strength", "be strong against weakness" philosophy. This is also the reason it is named 'TAIJI'quan. The word taiji refers to the yin & yang, literally makin Taijiquan mean 'Yin & Yang Style'.
Kiwanja My preferred translation is "the fist of great extremes." Yin (falling, compressing) and yang (rising, expanding) are the extremes but a lot of people aren't familiar enough with Taoism to understand that, and they mistakenly think Taijiquan is all about receiving or is only soft (that is, they misunderstand the meaning of "yin" and ignore the yang). Interestingly there's also a Northern Indian martial art associated with worship of Siva which employs the same principles, combining the rising force of pushing off the ground and the falling force of falling towards the ground in martial applications which are often very similar to Tai Chi applications. It requires a subtle understanding of energy, which is at the core of both Taoist and Saivite philosophy (only the Saivites personalise it as Siva, whereas the Taoists keep it abstract as "Taiji")
The most authentic, inspired, well produced and powerful documentary I've seen on martial arts. "Styles divide us, principles unite us." As an Aikidoka (practitioner of Japanese martial art) I see in this project universal truths. If this isn't available for purchase, download it in HD and keep it forever for yourself, your students and history.
@@RonaldMcPaul a real internal martial artist would end the fight faster than a single punch is even raised. if he were to even use more power than necessary by mistake, it could cause the people around to lose their lives. and im not making this up lol. almost all the form practices in the video are done at the lowest speed and lightest power. remember that.
This is brilliant, it's so cool to know that your school is not the only one unique splinter of real tradition left, but that there are groups of dedicated people all around the world maintaining their own styles and to see the simularities between them
I was lucky enough to learn a lot of these principles back in 1980 from an Aikido teacher. The breathing, balance internal focus etc. It really takes years before you begin to really understand it, and I am still gaining more understanding. No matter which path you take, some good habits for life are, horse stance training, Breathing exercise, meditation, balance training, juggling, dancing, and arm movement exercises, not weights, movement. Some things take years to really pay off, when I was young, that was hard to grasp. 10 years sounded long, 20 ridiculous, and now after 40, they were short. The benefit of training is feeling good all the time, sore maybe, but good.
I have to say I truly enjoyed this video. I have recently started a new journey with internal martial arts and I can already feel the changes, both physically and spiritually(internally). I truly believe Martial Arts is more than just fighting and defense. It teaches discipline and how to balance one's life. Thank you for enlightening me even more.
I have been practising Taijiquan nearly 12 years now, and I must say that it made a hug impact on my life in the sense that I am more centred, calm and peaceful. People see such arts being practised, and still after all this time start comparing practitioners to Bruce Lee and with the idea to fight to win. I wish that such ideas stop as these lead to destroy one's true love and true meaning behind the martial arts.
They have an entirely different reason for getting into martial arts than yours. I wouldn't say either is more legitimate--martial arts were created to fight, and some branches have evolved into a kind of moving meditation/personal growth. Great, and I respect people who do that for those reasons; personal growth is very important and we all deserve the chance to seek peace. Other branches want to stay true to the roots and just learn to fight. I respect that, too, as long as they apply their skill appropriately (self defense or tournaments.) People you're describing are mixing the categories, and not getting the point.
Excellent, I like how they established the difference between the superficial stuff, like the stuff you see people sign up for in the citys, and the inner discipline stuff, its all within, and you need to take a long time and go through a certain amount of pain in order to understand it.
something telling me this is not about how to defeat your enemies, but how to defeat your self before you can defeat your enemy. but the matrial arts is not about that, the material arts teaching to how to express your self with the motion, how to express your anger, how to express your sad, how to express your happiness, etc.
Chinese martial arts, often labeled under the umbrella terms kung fu (Chinese: 功夫; pinyin: gōng fu) and wushu (武术; wǔshù), are the several hundreds of fighting styles that have developed over the centuries in China. These fighting styles are often classified according to common traits, identified as "families" (家; jiā), "sects" (派; pài) or "schools" (門; mén) of martial arts. Examples of such traits include Shaolinquan (少林拳) physical exercises involving Five Animals (五形) mimicry, or training methods inspired by Chinese philosophies, religions and legends. Styles that focus on qi manipulation are called internal (内家拳; nèijiāquán), while others that concentrate on improving muscle and cardiovascular fitness are called "external" (外家拳; wàijiāquán). Geographical association, as in northern (北拳; běiquán) and "southern" (南拳; nánquán), is another popular classification method.
Thank you for the information! Yes, since my young sons have returned to America, from three years in China, where they practiced, "wu shu", I have had a very difficult time finding a studio which understands WuShu so they could continue this discipline. Still searching...will never give up.
@@HelloWorld11332 stop murdering Muslim and sikhs and killing people for eating your cow then talk about this. There were so many great Indian kings with tolerance and then u nationalist fuck it all up.
Loved the episode. Most forms of traditional martial arts require years of dedicated full-time training, especially during the youth, like training as a professional athlete - which makes it almost impossible to master in the modern world when school/work takes up most of the time. Without enough time for basic training to 'master both the body and spirit', you end up with either training emphasized on the physical portion (without the inner/discipline to support it), or emphasized on the inner portion (without the training for it to work in an actual fight)
Fantastic episode guys. Most of the kungfu traditions were strengthened by the teachings of the then Pallava (kingdom of southern India ) envoy Bodhi dharma who d visited China a very long time ago. Fantastic that they have fine tuned the tradition and still hold on to it with great pride
When I think Chinese vs Japanese kung fu I always think about the movie "Ninja in the Dragon's Den" its a classic kung fu movie that compares Chinese vs Japanese martial arts. I recommend watching it if you have never seen it before.
Matsie Smith Soul is a Western term. Lots of things are good for you or bad for you. Beautiful to watch? Sorry I prefer ballet or watching a pair of Mongolians wrestling.
Harry McNicholas There are millions of things that I love to watch. Ballet, sunsets, sunrises, rain, and Martial Arts! There is nothing better than Tai Chi or Taekwondo. So smoothe!
Matsie Smith Ever watch a couple of Mongolians wrestle? Have you ever danced the Cumbia? Every watched an Aikido Master? Need to experience a few more things in life Matsie. I do think though that Tai Chi is much more interesting to watch than Yoga.
+Harry McNicholas I have had so many experiences in my life...... that if I wrote a book about it ...... people would think it was untrue! Martial arts is my way of slowing down!
+Matsie Smith wait taekwondo? ! Lol ... I don't know what art they have lol their pattern are for performance , their free sparring force you to wear guard and limit your speed and strength .... Watch karate, Kung fu, aikido or other else~~ I would said these are real martial art
This shows china uncensored loves china and it's people and traditions despite what people might think, in fact probably one of China's biggest supporters, freeing people from ccp, this video proves for genuine respect and apreciate for China's people.
What a great presentation this is! So many traditional martial arts are dying fast. Thank you China Uncensored. Would you consider uploading another version with Chinese subtitles when the Americans in this video speak English? (I can help if you need anyone) Many people in urban China would be inspired by this video to seek out old masters and preserve these wonderful arts. Again, thank you for your work!
If you want to better your self as a person from the perspective of martial arts then you need to balance the physical with the internal (psychological). In the modern age people should be thinking about spreading them self as much as possible. Doing traditional martial arts with the likes of meditation but also including modern fighting styles like boxing and wrestling. Ancient Chinese wrestling at one point would have been part of various "kung fu" styles. We live in a modern world and we cannot expect to train like a 12 centrury warrior so we must use what is available to today. Even areas like mathematics that try to peer down into the deepest regions of human logic can be a part of this approach.
I get that, but mostly you have to focus on your internal strength first more than your external. A lot of people have been practicing external martial arts and have been ignoring the internal martial arts, they haven't learned to relax, now with people who are learning martial arts only use it for UFC and MMA and I don't like that. Sure martial arts is a sport, but there's also another meaning of martial arts, which was explained in this video. I train internal first and then external so that way I can balance both my physical body and internal energy and will breathe more, unlike UFC and MMA, they get tired quickly and their dodging/blocking skills just lack. For how long do you train in martial arts and how you're experienced and how you can execute without pressure is how you're good at at by yourself, with friends, with masters/teachers, and how you do it. How UFC and MMA trains is just only external, only attacking, they disregard relaxation in their training. Traditional martial arts focuses on meditation, relaxing, and focusing your internal energy. I'm training 18 martial arts styles and Boxing is one of them, but I don't train Boxing as much as I train Traditional Chinese Martial Arts
***** that only applies to rookie or wannabe MMA. Real MMA fighters can fight for hours. My friend Jack Ho is an professionl amateur MMA fighter. I seen the guy train and spar for 6 hour straight almost non stop. In reality it's actually the other way around real MMA fighter have more stamina than traditional martial artist. Biggest reason is that it puts food on their table it's their livelihood. Unlike traditionalist who do it for a hobby and have a side job or make money by teaching their art. Traditionalist martial artist need to understand that MMA are doing the exact same thing that they're doing. The only difference is that they focus more on application than form.
Using martial arts to beat up people is just down right wrong for me. I know most MMA and UFC fans won't agree, but they do this for entertainment, fun, and for money. Traditional martial artists do not beat up people because they have martial arts, no. Unlike MMA and UFC, traditional martial arts have higher standards than UFC and MMA, not because of beating the shit out of people. Stamina wise - UFC and MMA fighters get tired easily and get knocked out fast while traditional martial artists can stay longer because with mind, body, breathing, and spiritual training they can withhold a huge punch to the face, unlike most fights in UFC and MMA, 2-3 hard punches in the face can get them knocked out easily, while traditional martial artists take more than 2-3 hard punches, especially when they train for mind clarity and breathing techniques. Sparring doesn't depend on training for the longest hour, it just shows skill and respect to other martial artists. I don't support how martial artists use their martial arts to beat up people, make them bleed, break their bones, etc. While traditional martial arts actually has a purpose not trying to break its principles.
when people disregard kungfu, it's quite the same thing when they against capoeira. people today only seek things fast, not realizing the art they left behind. we create more impatient people today, not excluding combat fields. come on guys, it's not like we kick ass everyday. more people die from suicide than getting killed over martial arts fail. key is : mind, body and soul
This was excellent! Some of the critics commenting below just don't get it. Traditional Kung Fu is an incorporation of a well balanced lifestyle, manner of thinking and interaction with one's own environment. Fighting is just one of the aspects. Most true high-skilled martial artists like the ones featured here, while they can do major damage to an opponent's body, are not interested in "kicking someone's butt" and always prefer to humbly walk away from an actual confrontation with a troublemaker, when possible. There are too many thuggish cowards out there ready to pull out a gun.
ACLTony This is what Western Culture label as feeble and weak. One of many reasons why East Asians and East Asian culture are mocked and stereotyped unfairly.
Well stated. I've noticed that many legitimate Kung Fu trained practitioners are generally humble and keep a low profile, choosing to ignore the ignorant mind set of the mockers. I
ACLTony It's such a letdown that legit Chinese Kung Fu GrandMasters would never go all out and showcase their talents in a fight show. Culture plays an immense role. Bruce Lee is an excellent example of a Chinese Kung Fu practitioner brought up in ways of both Western and Eastern cultures. His pride and cockiness was what brought him fame and fortune, but was also a catalyst to his own demise. In his defense, he knew he had to be twice as prideful and boastful in order for Western audiences to acknowledge him. Remember during his time, not even African Americans were acknowledged in showbiz. I believe Lee was just the tip to the iceberg of Chinese traditional martial arts.
dAbaPEsTA123 He died from an embolism in his brain while he was in the sack with a Chinese actress. Sorry no hocus pocus. He designed his fighting using basic physics and nothing more. A legit Kung Fu practioner would get his or her ass kicked.
Awesome! I was watching the video and the artist started doing what we did in Tai Chi class. I forgot all about it. The teacher had originally asked why we were there. I told her that I needed better health, and that I didn't want to get beat up by bullies. So, she taught the movement, but every now and then, she would come over to me. "Look how you are standing." Then she would push me and I would lose my balance. "Try this." "Center this." Then she would push me. I did not lose my balance. Then she would go back to the movement. I forgot how it made me feel. Better.
The thing to remember about martial arts is that they all include internal and external aspects. The biggest difference between the two is the way they are taught - internal arts tend to begin with efficient power generation, before following on to how to apply that to techniques, while external arts tend to begin with learning techniques, before following on to how to generate power efficiently. They both end up in the same place; they just have different starting points.
I don't you do documentary. This one is great. much better than these CCTV stuffs. I practice Chinese Wrestling and Sanshou. Anyone can see this post are more than welcomed to my Channel to watch Chinese wrestling and Roman Wrestling videos. (Sorry Christ). Anyone in New Zealand want to practice are welcomed to contact me. I am a lozzy fighter, but together we can keep our tradition overseas.
This was incredible. An honest exposition of the spirit of the Chinese tradition. This is why I subscribe to this channel because China Uncensored exposes the corruption in China out of a deep appreciation for what makes the Chinese truly special in our world. Their deep root to the ancient ways may come out of the ground and dry out but if someone has the care for it, it will take root again and flourish.
Wow! I really want to take up martial arts after watching this, seems it would really help with destressing and getting rid of the tension of everyday life. Keep posting awesome vids chris chapel! Curious to find out about the other episodes of journey to the east too!

@J 1995 even shaolin temples admit, that the pre form of kung fu(not kung fu) was introduced to china, which later evolved into kung fu. So we can say kung fu originated in china, but was inspired from India
that was the best documentary to chinese martial arts i have ever seen it makes me want to learn everything there is about martial arts not only for self protection but for a balanced life
This is a great vid. I have practiced a few different martial arts styles/forms over the years including MCMAP but this reminds me allot of my brief time practicing Wing Chun kung Fu. I really loved it and I was amazed at some of the things I learnt in a brief time sadly I no longer live in Boston. I will have to seek out something similar to this style here in new Jersey.
Awesome video, but I disagree with one thing the narrator said .. that Tai Chi started as internal cultivation practice and not as a fighting system. But it did start as a fighting system in Chen-style Taijiquan. Taijiquan means Supreme Ultimate FIST.
Well, that's where things get tricky. The first mention of Chen Style Taichi, is long after Zhang Sanfeng, whom some debate really existed. But there was this period of Taichi existing before the first official mention of Chen style Taichi. It's one of those things where it gets hard to separate out fact from myth in Chinese history.
Although there is debate over who started the system, I agree that Tai Chi Ch'uan (Taijiquan) started as a Martial Art. The concept of Taiji as a philosophical concept certainly predates Taijiquan and has to do with the understanding of Yin and Yang which is very ancient. Taijiquan as a martial art takes a variety of movement and meditation practices, and fighting techniques and reinterprets them according to the concept of Yin and Yang.
Chen style taijiquan came from long fist. It wasn't called taijiquan until Yang Lu Chan brought the martial art to the public, and someone noted the similarly of this martial art to the taiji priniciple.
I found it a little ironic that he downplayed the beating people into the ground, a la UFC, but the "martial" in martial art means "of or appropriate to war; warlike". :)
Martial arts was created to fight but at the same time to protect others you just choose which path and you you wish to fight/protect whether it be yourself or others
No wonder it was scrapped, it started by blaming Mao the eradication of Kung Fu like it was a bad thing. YOU DON'T NEED KUNG FU WHEN THERE IS THE PARTY TO PROTECT YOU (note the sarcasm)
First of all, the foundation stone of shaolin temple was laid by a Buddhist monk travelling to china from India, the whole of martial arts techniques are based on Buddha's philosophy.
LOL LOL... The only thing I know about the Bodhidharma is he bring buddhism, yoga and meditation to China that's all. Later the Shaolin always get attacked so they ask the people who know Kung Fu to teach them so that can protect Shaolin and themselves. So this means the people in ancient China already know kungfu long before buddhism reach there. If kungfu is important in buddhism, then it should be inside the buddhist script everywhere. But NO, kungfu is NOT a part of buddhism. Buddhism is Buddhism and Kungfu is Kungfu. Bodhidharma is busy seeking truth in life and help people. He has no time observe animal fighting and learn Kungfu. Please use the brain to think...
Internal martial art = Bodily exercise complemented by meditation. Buddhist meditation is subset of meditation (probably the most detailed and famous one at that) and it influenced Chinese martial arts as a result. Martial arts existed long before Buddhism reached China. Martial arts originated from soldiery, not from religion.
Been training martial arts since I was 6 and 55 now and still learning more and more. But this was very interesting as the grandmaster said a lot of the same before his passing.
This is great! We need to preserve the traditional martial arts for the future generations. We'll never know how much they'll need it. At Jasma we promote traditional Shaolinquan, Taijiquan, Baguazhang, Xingyiquan, Tongbeiquan, Wing Chun Kuen and Qigong.
This mental development of finding your inner balance is something that I feel is completely missing in Western societies. When it comes to challenges and stress we are not taught how to cope with this at all, being tough, having grit, being egoistic, all these advices won't make you last much if you do not have a source of energy to draw from. Yoga and meditating techniques were discovered by the West in the late 60s but they are not a cultural part of our society yet and are not practiced enough. Religion does a bit of that for some people but it's not the same, since it focuses to build dependencies of their followers rather than making them better people. Medication or therapists are another answer people seek. The rest tries to make itself happy with compulsive behaviours, may this be consuming drugs, alcohol, food, media, sex ... none of those quick fixes can really restore inner happiness.
I blame religion. western countires have all abrahemic religions like christs, jews, islam. its 2000 years old and some old rules was good like jesus said respect your parents, dont do to others what they should dont do to you etc. but then came the church and stuff and they created a powerful empire. the old rules are gone and people compare it with feudalism things like woman have to obey man etc. most people left religion and took capitalism. but capitalism doesnt have any tradition. people cant identify. usa hasnt any old folk tales, in europe its get more and more away and people cant identificate with anything but tv shows and sport teams. in south east asia you havent that cause they invented buddshism and taoism, konfuzianism what is older than all this monotheistic shit and its still good cause its a tradition from the people to the people. you can become calm and chilled and find yourself instead praising someone and forget your indivuality for god.western people often mistake spirituality with some freaky eso guru hippie shit.western is just finding hope in god or finding hope in consumption.religion destroyed the own will to find yourself and capitalism destroyed your identity to find you in the past.it made mankind to an empty bottle.
indeed. when something is too different, ie they have never experienced it, then they are unable to understand it, or even make an effort to, thus it forever stays out of their grasp. ignorance at its best :))
@@spidermoon3574 hahaha 😆 🤣 😂 😅 😄 you go for a personal attack as a deflection against the plain fact that it is not an effective way to fight. Plain and simple when kung fu fighters try to compete they get beaten up. Try finding a kung fu champion who is dominate in the fight scene since ip man. It doesn't exist. You are blinded by your pride in a style that is framed in form, technique and theory versus the modern way of thinking that focuses on getting an opponent to the ground in order to neutralize possible strength or size advantages through ground fighting techniques and submission holds involving joint-locks and chokeholds.
Actually, Master Longfei is working on creating first an online training school, then a base in New York. I believe he'll be starting a kickstarter campaign soon to raise funds to create a training book and online course, so if you're interested, keep an eye out for that!
Thank you Chris, amazing. First time I saw few people practicing internal martial arts was in Hong Kong, three years ago, and I didn't understand. The shifu told me it was a meditation and it was, for sure, but there's a lot more and your video explains it very well.
Excellent movie. The Masters' movement, the scenery and the music, and above all the message it relays regarding the true meaning of martial art. Thank you very much.
This is a great documentary, thank you for sharing it. I did not know Longfei Yang, but his teaching is similar to what we study. I am sorry to hear the production has been scrapped.
I appreciate the absolute focus on building from a strong foundation. I think the true philosophy of Asian martial arts goes beyond "knowing how to fight" to "knowing how to build mastery in a discipline" starting from the very bottom. This means become a student of the art or discipline, and is a life journey. It changes your way of experiencing reality, and thus improving yourself. Whether this can be used in a fight is not the primary goal. If you build a solid and complete foundation in anything, the next thing you build on it will be more stable, and it can last for centuries and withstand strong storms of life. It's an incorporation of meditative practices tied to the Buddhist philosophies of the Far East.
Kung Fu has already been exposed as being completely ineffective in real world modern combat. I'll bet this Mr. Li hasn't even been in a real fight his entire life. Throw him in a ring against a real fighter, and not one of his sycophantic students, and he would get utterly wrecked.
@@drogoth25 it's the same with the Japanese. it's just like how People in America call Asian Americans Asians. PS:No one cares about all the names calling, it's just a title
🤭🤭🤭😂😂😂😂Every society had martial training . Chinese had their own qigong , meditation , fighting , long before Indian fat head went there . To make his religious philosophy more acceptable they promoted that he had similar exercise concepts .
It is well presented, however this gives the wrong impression of the internal martial arts. They are not meant to "relax your soul" or "cure you cancer" or whatever the fuck some people say. I've only scrolled down a bit and I already read some bs. I've been practicing Meihua Quan style for 7 years by now. Meihuaquan is an external style, it can be compared to Shaolin Quan, however, it teaches you Huá jìn (I believe it's written like this: 滑進), which is a concept very similar to the "Pushing Hands" and every form has a Qigong excercise (which is fancy for saying: an exercise which teaches you how to breathe during a fight) which one could arguably say it's another similarity to Taiji. However ultimatelly it is VERY external, and it uses come concepts of Huá jìn ("Changing the force", redirecting the incoming force); My point is: all that stuff you're hearing about internal styles like Tàijí, how "it's a way to relax", it's bullshit. Tàijí is a martial art. I could just stop here, but apparently some people don't get it. Its only purpose is to train your body to the extreme, exercising very low stances (just like most of the martial marts that are originally from North of China) and, this is key, very slow movements, which, believe me or try it yourself, are very fucking hard to execute and maintain if executed properly. The "relaxing" stuff is mainly only an interpretation of some lunatic western people. What I'm trying to say is that you must not hesitate to try out wushu, especially if you are involved in western martial arts. These Chinese martial arts are mostly very old fighting styles which have been studied carefully for ages. Trying it out will give you confirmation that Kickboxing, mma, wushu, judo, they are all made out of the same stuff, we just call things with different names and we fight at different levels, some like to fight on the ground, some like to throw kicks and punches.
That was a absolutely dishonorable statement by the narrator. ''A lot of Kung-Fu's deeper meaning was suppressed by Mao during the cultural revolution.'' Let us be honest. The CCCP under Mao. And Mao's followers. Murdered tens of thousands of people who were the ones still holding centuries long Martial Arts lineage. Fifty or maybe a hundred thousand people who were known teachers, or who had been caught practicing Kuo Shu/ Wu Shu/Kung-Fu. Whatever you want to call it. Several styles of martial arts are now extinct. A great deal of humanities legacy, through China is now lost forever. But due to a few deeply dedicated teachers. Like Yang Jwing-Ming, and Wong Her-Yue. Have since arriving in Taiwan, Europe, and the United States made concerted effort to save and preserve what remains. We came very close to losing these invaluable arts forever. Those of us who deeply care have spent our lifetimes spreading the Chinese Martial Arts Systems. And increasing our skills. I have done the modern kung fu of sanda, which is just like kickboxing, and I have always felt that traditional kung fu is quite useless and outdated. Master wang said their is a higher realm in martial art, not just beating your opponent, however, you have to kick one's ass first to say that. There are no Chinese traditional kung fu fighters in UFC, why? dont tell me about the martial art being an expression or art and peace, therefore the masters do not engage in violence, martial arts were invented to fight and in a cage or a ring is a place where you can prove that, just my personal opinion.
+Sonny Five My thoughts exactly. They're called "martial" arts for a reason. They're supposed to be systems of combat techniques. Either don't call what you're doing a martial art or be willing to prove its effectiveness through combat. These days I wouldn't be surprised to see yoga classified as a martial art.
Mot Anolec yeah, i hate people who does tai chi and thinks they are superior than us who does sanda....... i was like, i ll fucking break your leg in one lower kick LOL I m not saying traditional martial arts are useless, they are just not the best way to go if u are considering beating someone up. for example, tai chi is really good at breathing exercise, meditates your mind and body, and it does help you self defense, helps with physics fitness and balnce and so on, but its not as much useful as say learning boxing or muay thai.
+Sonny Five Your reply is hilariously ignorant. First thing you do is admit to no inner balance. You meet someone who has some ego and you desire to break their leg in half? WTF. Now, actually real traditional gongfu is far more violent than is led to believe. That has all been lost because no one is fighting against knives and spears anymore so no need to be very efficient. If there was a need, you'd discover the secrets locked up in TCMA are just sage additions to the basics of sanda, which is the foundation of all TCMA whether people want to admit to practicing it or not. Even the wrestling originally had kickboxing in it, before it was divided from boxing. Obviously a practitioner needs to be able to kick ass when they need to. A large part of that is the will to kill, to be violent, to maim... and the power to do it and withstand battle damage. But the important part is not what you might do once or a few times in your life, it's what will help you live to old age and be strong enough to still be practicing. Seek the place where waijia meets neijia... that's real gongfu.
well. the practical Chinese martial arts used in real fights require actions like kicking your balls and thrusting ur eyes with fingers. Maybe one day KunFu can be "strong" when UFC allows all KunFu technics .
Isn't Kung Fu a deep fighting system. don't it have many moves that let you fight without hitting sensitive spots? If it's very strong, it could hit and KO somebody by hitting the opponent in the chin which seems to be allowed in UFC
good point. TBH, i am not totally convinced myself. people i have seen and heard look and sound strong. But i really want to these guys fight in international matches, not just in some educational vids. Personally i hope KungFu is strong.
Back in 1981 I attended a banquet celebrating the 21st anniversary of the 7 star praying mantis , the school was located at 16 Mott St in NYC China Town. It was a great demo before dinner. Chi demo, there were over 30 amazing black belts. The master was looking in his 70s but I think much older. The school may still exist. The #1 Son was Raymond and started a school in Brooklyn. I think their could be some connection here.
I cant take this guys Kung Fu seriously, he's not even a fucking panda. Not only that what element does he bend, I didn't see any fire or water or anything, dude was just flapping his arms and shit. He didn't even go super sayan or anything, can he even fly? I doubt it.

+China Uncensored I've spent some time learning a mixed shaolin style
kung fu and I'm not sure how well an online school would work for most
people. When I was training I found I learned the most from the teacher
or more experienced students criticizing and showing me how to the
techniques were supposed to be, for example if my posture or an angle
was slightly off (even though I thought I had it right). I'm not sure
how a person would get the same experience online. Not saying I wouldnt
be interested in learning what I could from Master Longfei's online
school, I just think technique would be hard to master that way.
After several online martial arts lessons I can now beat up a computer.

The shaolin temple was actually founded by an Indian monk named bodhidharma called bato by the Chinese. He taught a refined version of Indian martial arts for combat purposes to the Chinese which later came to be known as Kung fu
If you say so.

Alright. You are right. 👍
This was a good video, traditional Chinese martial arts was alot different than the way its expressed in Hollywood films.
Didn't even see one Keanu Reeves.

+Will Yu Yes it is, and thats why it can never be compared to real fighting.

@Benja Freeman Then by extension, don't call MMA a martial art if there is no artistic expression.

+Michael Vipperman u do know Chen style is only a branch of Taichi , right
?
chu ren It's not "only a branch" of Taichi.
***** Ah, that's a good way to describe it to others, thank you for that.
The mother of all martial arts is the Indian martial art Kaleripaytu..
The most authentic, inspired, well produced and powerful documentary I've seen on martial arts. "Styles divide us, principles unite us." As an Aikidoka (practitioner of Japanese martial art) I see in this project universal truths.

@@RonaldMcPaul badabing badaboom
@@RonaldMcPaul a real internal martial artist would end the fight faster than a single punch is even raised. if he were to even use more power than necessary by mistake, it could cause the people around to lose their lives. and im not making this up lol. almost all the form practices in the video are done at the lowest speed and lightest power. remember that.
Blue Benomm Well said. Some fighters are actually using some kung moves and wing chun has been used by some fighters like Tony Ferguson.
Blue Benomm True
Nice, who are you?
You are fired a great last sentence:
One benefit of training is feeling good all the time, sore maybe, but good.
Well said. I'm glad it had such an impact on your life.
I respect that, too, as long as they apply their skill appropriately (self defense or tournaments.)
People you're describing are mixing the categories, and not getting the point.
Excellent, I like how they established the difference between the superficial stuff, like the stuff you see people sign up for in the citys, and the inner discipline stuff, its all within, and you need to take a long time and go through a certain amount of pain in order to understand it.
23:50 "But the real sword is not in your hand, but in your heart." That is so inspirational, and it makes so much sense!
What a gorgeous documentary
something telling me this is not about how to defeat your enemies, but how to defeat your self before you can defeat your enemy.
but the matrial arts is not about that, the material arts teaching to how to express your self with the motion, how to express your anger, how to express your sad, how to express your happiness, etc.
Expressing anger wouldn't be one, but restraint is.
Chinese Martial Arts changed my life, my mind body and spirit to a higher level and made me more psychic aware and stronger in my body. I love it.
When I think Chinese vs Japanese kung fu I always think about the movie "Ninja in the Dragon's Den" its a classic kung fu movie that compares Chinese vs Japanese martial arts. I recommend watching it if you have never seen it before.
Heroes of the East is another good one. Unless that's just another name for the same movie. They did that.
I believe the second Yip Man movie too, as Jazz mentioned. By the way, "kung fu" refers only to Chinese martial arts, not Japanese.

I keep on watching this video to motivate myself to do my martial arts training. Thank you for posting this video. I really appreciate it :)
I use it for the same purpose haha
ACLTony Yes, especially if they someone is a big Mongolian who they know would kick their ass. Almost all UFC fighters in China are ethnic Mongolians.
dAbaPEsTA123 He died from an embolism in his brain while he was in the sack with a Chinese actress.
"Try this." "Center this."
Then she would push me.

This was incredible. An honest exposition of the spirit of the Chinese tradition. This is why I subscribe to this channel because China Uncensored exposes the corruption in China out of a deep appreciation for what makes the Chinese truly special in our world.
Brian McCall I can tell you what you will find. Someone is going to ying your yang.
Thanks for sharing! Have an awesome day!
Always remember that no kung fu master in UFC.
No wonder it was scrapped, it started by blaming Mao the eradication of Kung Fu like it was a bad thing. YOU DON'T NEED KUNG FU WHEN THERE IS THE PARTY TO PROTECT YOU (note the sarcasm)
Ha, I enjoyed it.
lol
Kung Fu invented by Indian Holy man Aacharya BodhiDharma
@J 1995 even shaolin temple says that.
@J 1995 CCPee's Cultural revolution made you Blind & Dumb..
@@wondertraveller9928 CCPee's Cultural revolution destroyed their culture decades ago, they couldn't access history unless it's approved by CCPEE.
@J 1995 Nice cover Up Chinese CCp bot.
World don't trust you!
@J 1995 印地安人吃咖喱,但中国人吃包括新生婴儿在内的所有动物。
First of all, the foundation stone of shaolin temple was laid by a Buddhist monk travelling to china from India, the whole of martial arts techniques are based on Buddha's philosophy.
I agree this is the real truth people
Shaolin is not the birthplace of martial arts, martial arts has thousands years history in china.
not necessary, self defense has been part of religion in India. Try to check Kalari from Kerala. You will see similarities.
Thank you for taking the time to make this episode. It tought me a lot
Great to hear!
Wow, this was beautiful, inspiring, and got me really think about a lot of things, thank you :)
I blame religion. western countires have all abrahemic religions like christs, jews, islam. its 2000 years old and some old rules was good like jesus said respect your parents, dont do to others what they should dont do to you etc. but then came the church and stuff and they created a powerful empire. the old rules are gone and people compare it with feudalism things like woman have to obey man etc. most people left religion and took capitalism. but capitalism doesnt have any tradition. people cant identify. usa hasnt any old folk tales, in europe its get more and more away and people cant identificate with anything but tv shows and sport teams. in south east asia you havent that cause they invented buddshism and taoism, konfuzianism what is older than all this monotheistic shit and its still good cause its a tradition from the people to the people. you can become calm and chilled and find yourself instead praising someone and forget your indivuality for god.western people often mistake spirituality with some freaky eso guru hippie shit.western is just finding hope in god or finding hope in consumption.religion destroyed the own will to find yourself and capitalism destroyed your identity to find you in the past.it made mankind to an empty bottle.
what a blast from the past.. got this recommended today. Its also interesting to see cris during his teenage era.
so many people are still trolling here
how many actual fighters can fight like the master in their 60s?
trolling
thank you for posting this.
Loved it! Wonderful!
Amazing how litlle understanding is shown by people in the comments on this video.
indeed. when something is too different, ie they have never experienced it, then they are unable to understand it, or even make an effort to, thus it forever stays out of their grasp. ignorance at its best :))
@@spidermoon3574 where is kung fu used in real fighting? No where is the answer.
@@spidermoon3574 I am sorry your pride blinds you to the truth
@@spidermoon3574 hahaha still insults and no answer for who you claim to be a real fighter who practices kung fu. It is ok I know the answer....none.
It's so nice to watch Mister Lee...it's like he's dancing, such a nice flow and body movement.
I can't believe this show was scrapped. Its a really awesome show!

I would love to learn especially after watching these videos, but I do not know of a way to.

Actually, Master Longfei is working on creating first an online training school, then a base in New York. I believe he'll be starting a kickstarter campaign soon to raise funds to create a training book and online course, so if you're interested, keep an eye out for that!
nice, I will.

thank you.

cant wait for the online training.....please do provide the link and access to where we can get this program when it starts..thank you
Fredd Suarez
We'll be launching a kickstarter for it hopefully this week or next and I'll post that.
There are also Kung Fu Academies in China. I want to stay at one for a year and really transform into something better, if that makes sense.
Thank you Chris, amazing. First time I saw few people practicing internal martial arts was in Hong Kong, three years ago, and I didn't understand. The shifu told me it was a meditation and it was, for sure, but there's a lot more and your video explains it very well.
Oh great! That's a tricky subject to explain, so I'm glad it came across!
I saw my master Lin here!!
Been learning tiger style for many years great times in tournaments i fought my first drunken style ever too (Northern shaolin kung fu)
99% of MMA schools have not been tested in the UFC which means 99% of MMA schools are crap.
Ok. 🤔
Very insightful! I feel like I understand kung fu a little better now even though I don't have time to study it in this incarnation.
It's an incorporation of meditative practices tied to the Buddhist philosophies of the Far East.
did they say that Tai Chi was a martial art after it was for fitness? I'm pretty sure the opposite is true.
Kung Fu has already been exposed as being completely ineffective in real world modern combat. I'll bet this Mr. Li hasn't even been in a real fight his entire life. Throw him in a ring against a real fighter, and not one of his sycophantic students, and he would get utterly wrecked.
you talk shit. there are a lot kung fu styles. my kung fu is effective, so you are wrong.
I hate when Chinese people outside of China, still refer to other people as 外国人。This video was very entertaining though!
外国人is just a direct translation of a foreigner, nothing wrong with that
Alex Ong But they aren’t in China...THEY are the foreigners!!
@@drogoth25 it's the same with the Japanese.
it's just like how People in America call Asian Americans Asians.
PS:No one cares about all the names calling, it's just a title
I find this concept of martial arts beautiful and fascinating, it's sad that it's disappearing
Really quality production Chris!
Donnie Yen > Chuck Norris
Donnie Yen is way better
Chuck has better facial hair. Your argument is invalid.
Lol. Yen is an actor, Norris is a world champion.
Actually Kung fu was orginated in India
🤭🤭🤭😂😂😂😂Every society had martial training . Chinese had their own qigong , meditation , fighting , long before Indian fat head went there . To make his religious philosophy more acceptable they promoted that he had similar exercise concepts .
What are the weapons (style) at 21:41? Butterfly knives?
I believe they're a weapon specific to this style of Shanxi 7 Star Praying Mantis.
Appears to just be 2 short dao.
However ultimatelly it is VERY external, and it uses come concepts of Huá jìn ("Changing the force", redirecting the incoming force);
My point is: all that stuff you're hearing about internal styles like Tàijí, how "it's a way to relax", it's bullshit.
I have studied Northern Style 7 star Praying Mantis for years, TKD and now BJJ. Great combo IMO
But we still need your help. Please practice. Get certified through your teachers school. And improve your skill sets. Then write about kung fu. And teach as many people as you can. Keep kung-fu alive.
Overcome the darkness. Return the Light.

Peace.
+Sonny Five Amen
+Sonny Five My thoughts exactly. They're called "martial" arts for a reason. They're supposed to be systems of combat techniques. Either don't call what you're doing a martial art or be willing to prove its effectiveness through combat. These days I wouldn't be surprised to see yoga classified as a martial art.
Mot Anolec
yeah, i hate people who does tai chi and thinks they are superior than us who does sanda....... i was like, i ll fucking break your leg in one lower kick LOL I m not saying traditional martial arts are useless, they are just not the best way to go if u are considering beating someone up. for example, tai chi is really good at breathing exercise, meditates your mind and body, and it does help you self defense, helps with physics fitness and balnce and so on, but its not as much useful as say learning boxing or muay thai.
TheShadowlin Unless someone is mugging you, then it's useless.
I don't know for you guys, but the voice gives me ASMR...
Really nice video Chris. Brilliant work.
very good episode, surprised it didn't get broadcast. thanks
Kung Fu is strong? Old question; why not win in the UFC?
well. the practical Chinese martial arts used in real fights require actions like kicking your balls and thrusting ur eyes with fingers. Maybe one day KunFu can be "strong" when UFC allows all KunFu technics .
Arthur Chan People consider practical Chinese martial arts more "dirty" than Muay Thai
Agree very much with Arthur Chan. UFC has rules, which means many Chinese moves and even complete sets of skills cannot be employed.
KungFu is actually formed from India
I'll trade him English classes for Kung Fu classes.
so u can speak mandarin well enough to teach him english?
ME TOO
Back in 1981 I attended a banquet celebrating the 21st anniversary of the 7 star praying mantis , the school was located at 16 Mott St in NYC China Town. It was a great demo before dinner. Chi demo, there were over 30 amazing black belts. The master was looking in his 70s but I think much older. The school may still exist. The #1 Son was Raymond and started a school in Brooklyn. I think their could be some connection here.
The only China uncensored episode that isn't belittling and condescending to China.
