I know this a disappointment for a lot of folks but for me it's the first camera since purchasing my BMPCC4K that makes me want to upgrade. I think it's time! Can't wait to get my hands on it.

I just wish it had some foorm of autofocus. even the panasonic s5iix now has decent autofocus (and can recorddd braw to a blackmagic videoo assist). I actually loove the form factor, but even the red komodo has autofocus (makes using a glidecam easier)
Curious, what's the crop on that 4k DCI mode? I'm rather disappointed in them continuing with the cropping rather than attempting some scaling like the URSA 12k with BRaw.
6K Full frame sensor with OLPF is exciting, so glad it’s not 8K, but no NDs? 4K super 35 crop will be cool, I wonder what the actual crop factor will be? Interested to see sensor readout speeds. Would have liked a slightly higher DR. Keen to see how this model evolves, maybe into a box…
@@matteobertoli ofc not :) I'm just saying that the mount isn't the reason. The price point and segmentation could be. I'm sure they'll also make an URSA with this mount and NDs. I'm not sure if this is even 100% competing with FX3(0). There is an overlap but both also have distinct use cases. For example FX3(0) is for event coverage where you need both photos and videos but can't bring the whole crew and a bunch of cameras or even some ENG situations. This new camera doesn't do any of that well but it seems much better suited for a film set.
@@matteobertoli meh, people who really shoot run and gun doc work (the main audience for this camera) probably would appreciate the NDs being at the click of a button more than a new sensor
@@davinjacobs It really depends what you do. For my standards, the Pro internal NDs are not good enough and you still need to use a clear IR filter. If you are ok with 1.56x crop and not so good NDs then yes, the Pocket Pro is perfect!
Thanks Matteo! I personally don't find the lack of Internal ND to be a deal breaker, because if you adapt EF lenses, for example, you can use a Fotodiox EF-L adapter with ND filter built in. The L-Mount ecosystem opens up many possibilities for adding ND filters into the camera, and there are always external ND filters too :)
Naming conventions seem to be Blackmagic's Achilles heel. I have a BMCC and a BMPC4K and finding accessories or posts about them is always a pain since every search engine assumes I mean the BMPCC4K and the original BMPCC. Searching for the BMCC6K last night I would only get BMPCC6K results.
In the industry and cinema world, Apple and Blackmagic Design have been butting heads, DR doesn't get a prores raw decoder even though it is the industry standard for color and very quickly becoming the defacto editing platform as well. Any set with a budget hiring on an owner operator will ALWAYS have a matte box system with high grade ND's so internal ND's isn't that big of an issue. This camera according to BM is that it is for HIGH END CINEMA PRODUCTION so, crew, rigging ect. I think the weirdest thing to me is actually just relying on this current form factor. I'm not a box camera cheerleader but there is something to say about that forms rig ability.

I'm only working in the lower part of the film industry in the Netherlands,..so using an Arri or FX9 with intern ND is a must for me, especially without an AC. You're right about the form factor. I hope this will be the last of its kind. I haven't met a producer before who was very confident in using Blackmagic Pockets because of its limitations.

The Standard before prores was DNG (2004), an open platform put together with multiple sponsorships from the likes of Sony, Adobe, Arri and so on but apple came around (2007) with prores a contained higher bit depth (10bit) codec and because of their relationships with certain companies this became the way. Prores is NOT more efficient than raw, it is smaller however.
When they mentioned they were gonna share a clip, I thought it was gonna be something yours. Can't wait to hear what you think about the camera, I'm pretty stoked.

Blackmagic is not Sony. Their philosophy is not releasing two cameras a month and keep overselling you a more expensive camera. Blackmagic packs all the tech they have available at that moment in their cameras and give it to you for a completely stupid price. If there are no NDs is because probably there wasn't space to place them with this new L mount.
So there are no 16:9 6k/4k and no 50fps for slow motion? Kinda bummer, i shoot everything in PAL region, 48fps is bit random for that use (lights and screens flickering etc)
If it's intended for slow motion doesn't really matter PAL or not. You can shoot 6K DCI at 48p and slow it down in your 25p project. Not a big deal. Or you can shoot 4K DCI at 50p

What i love about pocket 4k and 6k is that it can be adapted to all-around work. Cinema, corporate, tv, social media ect. Always said that full frame was not a top priority when choosing a camera. In facts I much rather shoot with my Ursa 12K S35 or Pocket 6K than any full frame Sony or Panasonic. Color science, dynamic range and highlights roll-off are much more important than sensor size, for me at least. I also said that the crop factor on the Pocket was a bit too much (1.56x compared to 1.3x of the Ursa or Alexa). Now we have a full frame sensor with fantastic color science and incredible dynamic range, which I'll take any day over the old cropped models :)
@@matteobertoli It really looks great. Full frame looks so good and everything open gate I've seen so far from this cam looks awesome. The high frame rates seem a bit lackluster compared to the older version, but it will probably be priced very affordably so it's hard to complain too much. This will probably be very competitive with the fx3 and even fx6 if I had to guess!
Basically a nice upgrade. But I hate the form of the 6K. I could deal with it and so sold it for the 12K. If there will be a new 6K Pro with these upgrades and internal ND‘s this would be a valuable option.
This is going to come off misplaced but I actually think one of the better new features is the ability to shoot super16. That should please a few Fairchild lovers out there. Also, I'm not seeing a lot of hype for the new Studio mini cam. If that cam produces the same film picture curve as the Pockets, there's your bare bones "Cube Cam" right there. Would be a perfect gimbal/drone cam.
Based on Blackmagic's reel: dynamic range looks good, greens look accurate, skin tones look like they have to be punched up in post, so there's probably something lacking there.
Ok so Its just a BMPCC6K G2 with an FF sensor, PL Mount, CF Express discarded the SD card, Discarded SSD internal slot, and Discarded Pro Res codecs, I don't see the point here as if they want to make a not pocket cinema camera they should not use a very cheap plastic body, and still the worst egornomic with the lack of hand support when you have the lens on your hand, I feel Its a bit awkward, People wanted Better Ergonomic, Tilted Screen, Stabilisation, Better Still experience and they gave none of that (except the mount but obviously with FF what would they get) they made a cinema camera with the same body as the pocket cinema camera, this is really confusing, this is just the BMPCC 6K G2 Full frame ! But we will the see the specs at launch maybe Im wrong.

Surely they'll release more. I'd expect a FF URSA next. That's a bit challenging upgrade because I doubt they want to go with adapters there. Meaning that they'll need to rework the interchangeable mount system once again.
@@matteobertoli Nice! Well, it has to be, new tech, new sensor, new processor. Blackmagic pocket cameras are bad in high ISO's (color casting, grain looks a little bit too digital), so i guess that wasn't hard to achieve compared to previous generations. Excellent set of features, just wish they made something with the form factor of the Z cam, that "DSLR" design isn't practical and is ugly.
Now I want the whole L-mount alliance to collaborate and create a camera named Lacerate 1 that has internal b-raw and menu style of blackmagics, panasonics phase detect autofocus and ibis, leicas design language and quality control, dji's in built lidar and some super sick battery tech. With sick photo and video features.

Its probably the same s1h sensor so, i would expect 20ms of rolling shutter.

Those are average NDs. Much much better to have a OLPF and a 3:2 full frame sensor. Crop on the original Pocket was a bit too much at 1.56x

Personally sensor size matters more than Full Frame. I would still shoot in 2.40:1

What about storage? No one is talking about storage. My Samsung T7 won’t even work with it, and the T5 will only work in 4K mode, not 6k!!!
With 512gb cfexpress for 180 euros there is no really a point in using a T5 anymore to be honest. Just get a cfexpress and avoid cables and ssd ;)

A little disappointed. I was hoping we would see more of their lineup go to l mount. Full frame is whatever and the lack of internal ND just kinda kills the camera for me.
Surely the 6k pro version with internal ND is coming too
@@peterra2532I would hope so, but the flange distance might make it tricky. I was hoping for an ergonomic redesign for the pocket, and potentially an updated Ursa with the l mount
Surely they'll release more. I'd expect a FF URSA next. That's a bit challenging upgrade because I doubt they want to go with adapters there. Meaning that they'll need to rework the interchangeable mount system once again.

In this case it is. Low light is MUCH BETTER.
@@matteobertoli Nice! Well, it has to be, new tech, new sensor, new processor. Blackmagic pocket cameras are bad in high ISO's (color casting, grain looks a little bit too digital), so i guess that wasn't hard to achieve compared to previous generations. Excellent set of features, just wish they made something with the form factor of the Z cam, that "DSLR" design isn't practical and is ugly.
