Purposeful-looking locomotive, maintained, driven and fired really well (clean exhaust). How did the crew manage to maintain steam with coal dust?! I just never understand why the fire does not shake through the grate straight into the ash-pan with every shovelful. Thanks...
内蒙古还有这货? As a Chinese, I never thought Inner Mongolia province still has steam engines run on its railway network. yeah, some private regional lines may still hold these stuff for cost saving purpose, coal price is nothing there. two years ago, I saw one well-polished steam engine at Euston London in dark green colour, that's a nice lady, this one here are Mongolia wolf. untamed and wild! Great pictures!
Thank you for sharing this video. Seeing the video of a cab ride in an actual working locomotive is totally different than a "tourist" or preserved locomotive. Those men aren't hobbyists- they are craftsmen, and this is their daily work.
Thanks a lot, Ralph. It was not very cold, but we allways had a very cold storm. The price for good steam - this serie is to bee continued. Something to know: private planed tour. I don`t like to travel by groups. So it was no problem for a ride on the footplate. Enthusiasts: never seen in two weeks of china.
Fantastic film. Real working steam on its way out. I write this in June 2014, is steam still in operation in China? Where and when will the last working steam locos run?
Anyone knows what are those four large conical chimneys at the left of the image at the very beginning of the vid? They look like nuclear reactor chimneys but I really doubt they are!
great video thay need to hang on too that steam there unique locomotive and we do not need too loss them so some tell the Chinese government there doing a good job keeping steam alive
Getting a womens appreciaton is very seldom in the railway-business, thanks a lot! Steam will come to and end in 2014, because the government has no eyes for this old kind of transportation. Only one steam-line will survive:looking like Disneyworld ....
You are right.More comfortable to sleep like in a german ICE-train. Smoking is no problem, the dolby-surround sound is very good. Even more space like in the plane! So I don`t miss the monitor with Skyfall, Lassie and "My days with Jeanie",,, Next time for a steam party onboard: perhaps in the indian summer, autum 2013.
I know this problems. The chinese railways are not so broken down like the railways in paraguay ore cuba. Enjoying is a probleme in the wintertime, you have to sit down and wait.
The crew is very friendly indeed, we don`t wont any money, even a few cigarettes! Chines people are very friendly. Not in the first spoken words, it needs some times.

The locos are working for some minings. I like the wolf of mongolia; it´s better to find yourself back in a group of chinese people than in a group of europeen steam fans. Chinese cooking is not so expansiv there like in London - and much better....

Very nice video, especailly as you did not forget the "human" aspect of the railway.

I like the reclining driving seat as well, and what a huge footplate, room for a party..
Bueno no se debe sentir mucho frío en este tiempo al lado de esa caldera que bien trabaja esa locomotora de vapor
I hope this engine is preserved
I love these images (unfortunately now from the past with only SanDaoLing in XinJiang having much steam left) .

It just sounds so wrong to hear a horn on a steam engine
Indeed. In China, whistle is only used for emergencies only
Some steam trains have horns on them you guys didn't know that
RIP Wolfgang Cloessner.
Who was responsible for that?....
