    This is your PSA to plant a blueberry bush.
    My grandparents planted maybe 20 blueberry bushes in the mid eighties. We still have about 12. They are BOSSES and make so many blueberries we can’t give them away fast enough. So every June and July I crave blueberries like crazy. I can’t recommend them enough.

    If you are using frozen blueberries I recommend adding 1-2 tbsp off corn starch to the blueberry mixture and then they do not need to thaw and will be less liquidy

    I've been making a similar recipe like this one for years! It calls for self rising flour and calls for 1 cup of flour/milk/sugar poured on top of melted butter, the fruit added topped with a sprinkle of sugar. My family goes crazy over it!! I just made it with fresh Georgia peaches too!

    • @stonechops
      @stonechops 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do we add 1 cup of butter?

    • @Patti-1962
      @Patti-1962 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@stonechops It calls for 1 stick of butter, 1/2 cup. But I usually put a little less.
      I actually mix the butter into the batter. I made a mistake one time and made it that way, and everyone liked it better!!
      And the recipe called for frozen fruit. But either one works! Blackberries are the favorite at my house!

      Can it be made with just fresh peaches alone? Do you still add the lemon zest?

    • @Patti-1962
      @Patti-1962 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@PrincessOfLight008 Yes, I used fresh peaches. That is my favorite way to eat the recipe!
      And no, I didn't add the lemon zest or sugar. I just used frozen blueberries, then sprinkled 1/4 cup of sugar over the top before baking. That is what my recipe called for!

    A couple of weeks ago, I tried to make blueberry muffins. After scooping the batter in the muffin cupcake papers, I realised I'd forgotten to put the sugar in. So I tipped out all the muffin papers into a large square dish, sprinkled the forgotten sugar over, and baked it. It baked beautifully, just like this recipe. (I thought it wouldn't work).

    Half blueberry and half sliced peaches mixed together (you can use canned peaches ,drained) make a dandy cobbler. Also fresh blackberries are out of this world in a cobbler. Homemade ice cream scooped on top, well honey you might get blue ribbons from your family and friends. I love your show.

      All of the women in my Texas family were known as really good cooks, they all made cobblers using a pie crust dough, and usually a beautiful lattice top. When my Mom made cobblers she often made a bottom crust as well and that was my favorite because I loved the gooey bottom crust. I make a peach cobbler that mimics some peach preserves I received in a gift basket from San Saba, Tx. It had pecans and almond extract, oh my goodness the preserves were so good, but the cobbler is to die for! I’d like to make everything you bake John, but then I’d be forced to eat it too! 🤗 (by myself)
