I’m moving soon, so I’ll have a million cardboard boxes. Ive been trying to figure out what I could do with a lot of them, since I won’t have the space to keep them, and this is a perfect idea for me to use up a lot of those boxes and give my cats something to use!

I love it when they 'Help' you with what you're doing... my cat used to help me sew all the time.. she'd sit on the fabric, and sprawl until I either gave in and played, or put her in another room with the door closed.. lol. She would also sit on my shoulder much like she was part parrot or something and watch the sewing machine work. It sounds dangerous I know, but if I was focused on something, she had to be there too. She only ever went for the moving needle once... I scuffed her, swatted her butt, hissed at her and dumped her on the floor.. she never went for anything on the sewing machine table again. Cats are actually very smart and can learn very well if you have the time to teach them. after my Sweet-Pea passed away I moved into a new building, where they said pets were okay, but less than 2 months later hey decides to change the building rules and if you already had a pet you were good, but my new kitty wasn't old enough to leave it's mother in time so I had to find her another home before she ever came to mine. I like watching channels like your's because I enjoy seeing the love other have for cats too.

This is actually a great idea... Aesthetically pleasing and it's functional for the cats as a scratcher and as a platform for them to rest and sleep on. I can see this even working as a stool that humans can use. I wonder why no manufacturer has jumped in on this idea yet... Maybe just a matter of time.

Amazing patience! It would have been perfect had it been glued just on the inside, i.e. the mid point since the external part is meant to be scratched away so it won't really matter if the shape shifts with time. And whatever remains on the glued pole side would have been thrown away anyway. Remains as is, the cats will scratch off the dried glue too, uff, and would ingest those toxic dusts under their claws...and we sure won't want them ill by this. Can u pls make another scratching trunk, Mr Patience?

The way i did mine was glue all the card together. Then use a powered saw. Kinda like a portable band saw and cut it into big rectangles. Its a lot easier. But the fiddling around is just too much. 20 hours of my time is worth a lot more than a $10max cat scratcher.

  • @brianfox3542

Cutting out the cardboard on a band saw would be faster. Using a template with a pencil scriber making each one slightly larger may help cut down on going freehand and the construction hours shorter.

@@DIYCATVILLAGE here's a video that shows how a compass can scribe your cardboard stump so to enlarge the stump slightly each drawing so to have a wider base. th-cam.com/video/OMmHs1suNz0/w-d-xo.html

      sorry i dont have it.
I made it bigger and bigger as I went along, and this is the shape I came up with.
If you draw it with the tip gradually spiked, the last part looks like the root of a tree.
