Just made one of these and put four seedlings that were growing on my property from its bloodgood mother and one cutting. One week later they are growing and living strong! 50/50 perlite and a mix of pine bark etc. Thanks for the new hobby Jonny!

You are very good at explaining, your videos are clear and concise, really useful content. I have started with my bonsai hobby, which means I also got addicted at propagating trees with any method available

very informative. I see you do not use bonsai potting mix. Would that work? Would you also mix with perlite (most bonsai mixes have perlite, worm casings etc). Thanks

What do you do with them when the temperature begins to fall during autumn and winter months…

Sure, glad to help. I have found that there are some Acer palmatum varieties that will root by cuttings reliably, and other that will not. Experiment and find out what works.

Will this method work with the laceleaf variety? I've always seen them grafted but not rooted from cuttings.

In my zone 8 garden, Late June into early July seems to work best.

what do you do with them in the winter monthS?

I leave them outside in my zone 8 garden. If you live in a zone 6 or below, they will need winter protection in pots.

Ok so let me make sure I got this right ..once they root transplant and leave them outside

Im in zone 6a and I bury the entire tub up to the soil line inside in my garden, keeps the soil inside the tub warm enough and never lost any cuttings.
