I really like how he is so practical. No spending thousands and thousands of dollars to root plants or germinate seeds. No special rooms, grow lights, special trays on and on. This guy shows how fun easy and inexspensive rooting and growing plants can be. Excellent video. Keep up the excellent work.
So true, direct, and to the point, and without annoying music. I can easily follow these instructions, and I have plenty of plastic containers I have been saving for repurposing! Only have to get the green moss.

Grow lights do come in as useful for some plants if you're somewhere that gets dark during winter months, or in a room that doesn't recieve direct sunlight. But you can still be relatively cheap with those, using "daylight" lamps instead of specialty lamps even if they're not quite as efficient for growing.
inexpensive if u work with plants in ur area or atleast plants compatible with ur area.
expensive starts with tropical/subtropical plants in an cold area for example - weather, soil, light…
gardening was never expensive if u keep ur hands just around plants for ur

In Australia green moss is called sphagnum moss & yes it's perfect for cuttings. I've grown roses, frangipani & zygo cactus easily using this medium. Great video & very well explained. Thank you.

Best video on propagation I have seen so far. I usually propagate in water but when it comes to ivy plants it takes them four weeks just to begin growing tiny roots! And some of them don’t make it. I will definitely try this method with my next ivy cuttings.

I was so torn with how to propagate my favorite fitonia, because water propagation will make fragile roots that may shock when put in soil and are so easy to rot, but soil propagation requires so much attention and has a high rate of failure. a tip I read the other day re water propagation - you can do water propagation and then a week before planting add a little soil to the water each day to prepare the plant

I propagate my Fittonia in a round cake container and lid (like a birthday cake from the store). I open it up every week or two and air it out a few minutes and give it a mist inside if needed. Only problem is they grow so fast and tall I frequently have to cut and prop again so they fit. 😂

I bought some strawberries that came in the plastic container you show. I also used the mesh to a butterfly net for the bottom (I didn't want the soil to escape).
I do have to mist the inside ever so often, but it's much more promising and much less maintenance.
I'm definitely going to try the moss technique next. Great video!
**Side note: I'm also happy to see someone being ..not rough, but definitely not gentle with the plants lol.
I've tried these containers also I just disinfect well because strawberries are so fungusy.

I've got a fair amount of success propagating bougainvillea cuttings with a similar method to your #3; 6-8in cuttings about the diameter of a pencil, scar the bottom, apply rooting hormone, and plant nearly to the bottom of the cup/pot. With regards to leaves, you're right that they can make limited use out of them but it's also important to realize that they respire through their leaves and thus can lose a lot of moisture through them. What I typically do is leave maybe 3 or 4 leaves at most and any large leaves I'll actually just cut in half.

Quick question.. Does anybody know if the dehydrated moss that decoration stores sell is also Sphagnum moss? I always thought it was normal garden moss, which I believe has a much higher PH? Thanks to anyone that can help. Also, to the creator of this video - thanks for the information!

Hello, thanks for the video. How do you determine which method to use for growing plants from stem cuttings? The green moss air tight green house vs planting them in potting soil directly in a cup? I am playing around with Jasmine plants, hibiscus and curry leaf plant cuttings and trying to find the best ways for rooting them. Thank you.

Ivy will very quickly form roots in my experience.
the plant I did find difficult was a variegated ilex (Christmas holly) it took a few tries but the plant did "take" eventually and has been potted on twice since then,
if using a new white container then all is well.
the "green moss" you refer to is called Spagnum Moss in some areas.
The said "green moss" you refer to and use and you sometimes call "peat moss" is NOT the same as the more expensive "peat moss" - peat moss is dark brown.
BUT if using a recycled white container with a completely secure lid then the recycled container must be well washed, disinfected and wiped out thoroughly and dried well before using just in case the old container had any bacteria or mold spores that could harm the cuttings.
I use the same big white container depicted in your video with a tight fitting lid = and the container is a brilliant solution. Once the lid is securely shut I do not open it again for six weeks = at which point all the cuttings should by then be thriving.
I use fine gravel in the base of my large white container with a very tight fitting lid.
Then each cutting is put into it's own individual PaperMache pot. Then I pack all the said paper mache pots very tight into the container. once the roots are well formed I am able to plant the plant still in the paper mache pot straight into the ground - that way the plant does not suffer any root disturbance and the paper mache pot slowly disintegrates in the ground.
Simple and straight to point advice. 💪🏼

I like your idea of wateing everything before you stick cuttings in. I've always just took the cutting dipped it in hormone and then water everything afterwards but that's probably taken off of that hormone when I do that. So your method makes a lot of sense. I agree, that's how I do it also but it makes sense to not water after the cutting with the hormone, is in the cup/pot.
