    That is such a pretty design!
    It reminds me of frost on a window❄
    A color mixing show would be awesome! I'm going to check and see if you have one.

      Thank you and yes I see that as well... growing up in Oregon, we had frost on our windows all the time ... and the Color Mixing is just a demo I did at the end of this video, here is where I start doing the mixing : th-cam.com/video/2eyTZLedDfM/w-d-xo.html

    Have you given this a try on a T-Shirt or anything else yet? This came out awesome. I'm a beginner, really not even that yet. Watching some tutorials before I dive in. I am so glad I found you. I love your style!

      Yes I have done this one tees, but the only video I have is from 4 years ago, I need to make an updated one ... back then I could only do short videos (some kind of TH-cam rule) so they were done in two parts...
      here is the 1st part : th-cam.com/video/-15JSBH83k0/w-d-xo.html
      here is the 2nd part : th-cam.com/video/IB-HdYFEDQY/w-d-xo.html
      and the reveal mixed in with others : th-cam.com/video/bspOdRRNmBo/w-d-xo.html
      they give the basics for Incline Ice Dyeing
      Also, here is my Beginners Playlist with lots of helpful tips and tricks when getting started with tie-dye : th-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo.html
      have fun on your Tie-Dye Journey, I wish you success ... take pics of all of your work so you can look back in a year or more and see how far you have come... and ask more questions if you need to and I will help where and when I can ✌🏻💚🙏🥳🌈

    Love your tie dying tutorials…
    Can you please help me in two areas of your expertise..
    How to use the string to tie.
    I need a more step by step show and tail. And once I have allowed the shirt to batch for 48 hours rinsed it in cold water and put it in the wash machine with a drop of dawn dish soap for a rinse the color fades away. Please help me to make my colors POP like yours

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! as for using the Kite String or Sinew... here is a video to show how I use both of them : th-cam.com/video/nRKtNBZB5Qo/w-d-xo.html
      As for the colors... I use Procion Dyes and it requires Soda Ash to be used with it as that is what activates the dyes ... so I pre wash my tees, then I soak them in soda ash for 20 min Utes, squeeze out the excess, then I use the Spin Cycle on my washer (set it to halfway through the cycle if it sprays water at the beginning of the cycle and that will dilute the soda ash) ... so then I fold my tee while it is barely damp with soda ash, then I dye and let it batch for 48 hours... I add heat to mine by stacking the tubs I batch in next to a heat vent ... here are the tubs I use and they need to have a lid so the tees stay damp while they batch (if the tees dry out while batching, then the dye bonding stops) : th-cam.com/video/SvhwNQbhZJA/w-d-xo.html
      What kind of dyes are you using??
      the One Step Kits in the stores have the soda ash mixed in with the dye powder, so as soon as you add water to the bottle, the dyes are active and should be used directly for best colors... SO, if you are using One'Step Kits, I recommend getting everything you are going to dye all tied up and ready, then mix your dyes and use them right away
      and just in case it is helpful, here is my Beginner's Playlist which has many videos that walk you through the mixing of dyes, soda ash, batching, washing etc. :th-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo.html

    I could be very wrong, but I’ve been watching a lot of ice dyers and a super thick bed of shaved ice might give less variation than just cubes..I guess it just depends on what effects you’re going for..also, how the water melts to dissolve the dyes and how it gets carried to the fibers active with soda ash, you have to think about how osmosis works, etc..lots of variables..great work.!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are exactly right... that is why I bought the ice shaver, I wanted to experiment with the ice melt and see how it affects the results ... I have more custom orders to complete, but then I am going into full on play/experiment mode and I hope o create more videos also ... thank you!!

    Hi Arissa, from Arkansas ,new tyedyer- what's ur fav dye? Mine seem to fade . Alot

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Arissa and welcome to my channel... I use Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes and they have great colors ... first of all, here is my Beginner's Playlist with lots of tips and tricks to tie-dyeing with Procion Dyes : th-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo.html
      Next here is a list of the main places where dyers buy their dyes in the US :
      CA : Dharma : www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html
      CO : Grateful Dyes : www.grateful-dyes.com/
      CO : CO Wholesale Dye Corp. : www.bulkdye.com
      NC : Custom Colors Inc. : www.customcoloursinc.com/
      MA : Pro-Chemical and Dye : prochemicalanddye.net/
      MO : Dyespin : www.dyespin.com
      I know at least dharma, but probably more of them have tie-dye kits with the good dyes in them and all of the supplies you need just in case you want to try these out first... then you can just buy more dyes as needed ..... One other thing, these are Fiber Reactive Dyes... they work on cotton and other natural fibers like Rayon, Bamboo, Hemp & Linen ... but they need Soda Ash as that is what activates them and causes the chemical bond between the cotton fiber and the dye ... there is a video about soda ash in the playlist above as well as how to mix your dyes
      you can buy soda sh from the place where you buy your dyes.... OR, you can buy it locally as it is a chemical they use in swimming pools and hot tubs to balance the pH ... another name for it is Sodium Carbonate ... so if you have a local store, you can ask about Soda Ash ... just check the label to make sure it say 100% Soda Ash or Sodium Carbonate .... also, you can find Washing Soda in the laundry isle, or pH Up in a department store ....I hope this helps and I have not given you too much info... have fun and I wish you success!!

    What are your recommendations for pre-wash/pre-treat?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do a pre wash in warm/hot water with some synthrapol soap ... this is to remove any treatments added by the manufacturer that may interfere with the dyeing process..... it is not always an issue, but it can be and it sucks to mess up a tee you spent hours folding because it will not take dye in certain areas... so pre wash with pH neutral soap like Synthrapol, Blue Dawn Dish soap, Folex Carpet Cleaner or other pH neutral textile soap
      and then I soak in soda ash for 20 minutes ands spin out the excess and then I tie and dye
      BUT, there are other ways... you can pre wash and then tie and then soak and spin out, then do the dyeing.... BUT, there is one more way that I have been doing more of lately... pre wash, tie, dye and then squirt soda ash over the tee and let it soak in, flip coat the other side and then batch as usual ... here is a video where I show the 3 times to use soda ash : th-cam.com/video/rkmAQxOu52A/w-d-xo.html
